You are good at making and tuning those djembes what is the price,I will love to have one of them.I have to tell you I fill like a plant when you stop adding water to it. I said that cuz I was a member of Drummin sound for 8 years, is owned by a friend of mine, They are based in Phoenix AZ, and we used to play every first Friday in downtown Phoenix, But I moved to Vero Beach FL 8 years ago, and I haven't played since then, I fill like Drumming or hand percussion is part of soul. I send you my most sincere greetings, thank you for what you do

The shaving part!! WOW! You did it so effortlessly. Any specific model of Bic razor? That's the toughest part for me!!!

morning. Use a disposable single edge Bic, never an off brand. And be sure to knock the corners off or they will dig in. And works best when it's tight but still wet.

Amazing build! I am looking for that piece of metal that you use to attach the pulling machine to the djembe verticals. Seen at 11:59. What is the name of it and where can I find it? If you made it yourself, could you send me a picture so that I can rebuild it?

Again man! love this video too, I guess no more question on this video, for now... but I want to add a couple to my last torrent of questions ;) it's simple one now, assuming I turned a shell, and made all the right groves in all the right places, how much wider do you make the wire loops considering the cloth and thickness of your rope? Also, how do you close you wire loops? welding? some clamp? the lower ring (the tension ring?) is the smallest and looks like it's smaller then the foot, do you weld close over the thinnest part of the drum? how do you protect the wood from the welding? Making a Djembe is by far the most skill complicated thing I've ever thought to try and learn how to do over youtube... I mean, woodturning turned out alright for me, I hope this will be the same. :) I would love to know a little bit more about the knots you use for your start and end of line, I mean the loops and strings are quite obvious, but are there special knots you use for the start and end of the line? If I weave some handles, where would be a good place to attach them? the rings themselves sounds right to me, but could it be I've seen some drums where the handles are tied to the tension strings?? doesn't sound right, probably a poor quality drum. Well, I guess I had plenty of questions in the end, so, yeah, deal with it ;) Yuval.

The rings aer welded. Yes if the bottom of the drum is bigger than the ring shelf then the ring has to be welded on the drum. I bend thin metal and use fire proof cloth to protect the drum when I have to do this. If you keep the ring shelf larger than the bottom then you don't have to worry about it. The ring when welded should leave an 1/8th inch gap between shell and ring all the way around. The start and finish knots I will cover in a future video easier that way than trying to explain in writing :-) Have you found a log yet?

+Cyrus Fillmore (Time Lapse Turner) I'd like to know where I can buy a porta-pullie too. I liked your video. I'm about to re head on of my djembe's and for some reason I can't keep the top rings even when I'm pulling the tension down. Any advice?

Ryan Burchfield I don't sell the Porta Puller, it is my own creation and I thought about it but its too time consuming for me to make and not cost effective as a production piece. However there is an easy to make puller called a Table puller. Go to goatskins.com he sells a kit with all the hard ware you just suppl a table. As far as keeping the top ring straight I have found that when I have that happen it is usually because i pulled too much too soon. It is better to go around the drum adding a little more tension each time than to pull it all at once. Also keep in mind as you get to the opposite side of the drum from where you started you are pulling against the ropes one the other side which are already tight. Good Luck

It is my own invention. I don't make them to sell. However I have been working on a Sketch-up drawing that once complete I can send to people, with that you'd figure it out pretty easily. I will try to finish it up sometime son. Follow Uncle Cy's Woodworking On Facebook and when its available I will post it there. facebook.com/UncleCysWoodworking/

That is my Porta puller. it is a type of pulling table. Most djembe makers use a pulling table these days, the mechanical advantage the give you is unbeatable. I am working on getting a set of plans for the Porta puller drawn up, then I will offer the plans on my Etsy site.

We all want that Porta Puller; I did my last two drums manually & I could have saved hours and my back! LOL. Did you ever get those pans uploaded? I looked around to no avail. I've seen many online; however I like yours the best.
