If your inbuilt recording didn't work well then use any "recording app" available in PlayStore which has high rating. To be honest I never use any apps for recording so I don't have any proper idea to give you suggestions for which app is good and bad.

It lags mine too. You can hear the cracking sounds when I land on events. My frames stay between 22 to 26 that's the reason it doesn't look laggy at all.

I don't think it's smooth or it's just that you have a bad inbuilt recorder. My Vivo inbuilt recorder works well enough to record good quality video in 720p. The only problem is that it gives me a very shaky video output because of low FPS.
