40 S&W vs 357 SIG (Part 3) (Hollowpoints)

I have to point out that you are using possibly the weakest rounds available in the 40. A 9+p performs better. A true accurate comparison would be using, for example, underwood ammo for both calibers. 40 is loaded so weak by most manufacturers to (I can only assume) prevent failures in guns that should have remained 9mm.

That's what you want I don't want a hollow point that penatrates alot. I want all the energy to be expended shortly after entry so that sway me for 357 sig because it was almost the same penatration as the 40 hollow point

Should have used Speer Gold Dot 180gr in the 40 cal those critical duty rounds are shitty wannabe bonded Gold Dots

My g32 feels like it has a little less recoil than a .40 w/any load. What do you think though?

Man, that's a good test. I picked a .40 for carry because I had a close call one time with some punks in a van. That weekend, I went away and tested .38, 9mm and .40 hollowpoint penetration and deflection in some truck doors I pulled from the junkyard. .40 won that one, easily. Gotta start shopping for a .357 Sig drop-in barrel for Christmas.

should of propped up the first booked for the follow up shot with 357 sig. the first shot with the 40 knocked it outta place,. the weight of the books backing it affects penetration.. I am biased toward the 40 though

I'm a 40 guy too however it truly safe to say the 357 sig penetrates more hands down!! I'll stick to my 40's for home defense. however these vids got me interested in owning a 357 sig. Great vid!!!

+Lexadon 10 the .40 is perfectly adequate for defensive purposes. however, if you like better barrier penetration, then the 357 is surely something to look at. plus in many handguns, its as simple as a barrel swap. the 357 uses the same magazines. thanks for watching!

I would take the 40 that close in self defense. It will do a hell of a lot of damage to flesh than the 357 sig.

+n300zx931 Great Idea. I was thinking about matching up some really hot 9mm loads against the 357 sig. I've seen alot of people claiming that 9mm+p+ will perform just as well as 357 sig. I guess we're just going to have to find out! Stay tuned.

The question is not penetration. Its how much hydro-static for you can apply to your target. Knock down power is about applying all the force to your target which will sustain more damage than something that will apply larger for on a smaller area.

I wonder if any of your videos the camera isn't shaking like it's being held by a crackhead going through withdrawals. I bet if you deliberately tried to shake the camera, it would be steadier. I would really like to watch them, but all that shaking gives me too much of a headache.
