Sydney Hobart Radio Communications volunteer Bruce Gould recalls the “unfortunate” 1998 yacht race where the ship he was helmsman for sank.
The infamous 1998 race is remembered for a supercell storm which resulted in the Bass Strait claiming six sailors and seven yachts.
“Post that, we did a lot of work at the CYC to improve safety,” Mr Gould told Sky News Australia.
“Touch wood, we haven’t lost anyone since.”
Mr Gould sat down with Sky News Australia presenter Ashlea Hansen to talk about the “vivid” memories stacked throughout his 40 career races.
