This brings back a mix of feelings. My pal next door got a CPC with a colour monitor for Christmas but he had no interest in computers. I loved computers. Would go round to his to play, but he wouldn't let me on it no matter how much I begged 😥 I would lie awake at night just thinking about that computer 🤣A couple of years later my journey began with an Acorn Electron starter pack (Hopper, Snapper and the under rated Business Games) that my parents bought from Boots in Arbroath. Never looked back since - but to this day would love a rainy weekend with a 464 to satisfy those 10 year old me itches😃

It's hard to explain. But looking at old computers brings a funny sense of happiness inside me. I think it's because it reminds me of the feeling I had when I was a 12 year old discovering my VIC20 and then later my C64 and Amigas. It's a lovely feeling.

As a fellow Brit of a similar age to yourself, who also owned a CPC464 in the mid 80’s, this video really pulled on my nostalgia strings. I've been subscribed to RMC and TWIR (Hullo Dave + Chris) for years and - honestly - I've never heard to speak so quickly and so excitably about anything other than when you rifle through the cassettes at 5 minutes in :) What a beautiful upload. I was late to the CPC in my timeline - was toastrack owner until a 6128 was gifted to me in the 2000s, but I can utterly appreciate that sensation you have captured. Totally getting Christmassy feels now. All the very best to you and your growing family. Slàinte!

Oh Mummy, Harrier Attack and Roland On The Ropes were my gotos from the pack. My mum kepted the EasiAmsword tape until I was able to transfer her work to AmiPro for Windows. I then recued a CPC6128 and repaired it. I put these tapes on to disk using a utility that came with a Christmas Amstrad Action along with Lost Caves, Puzznic and Space Froggy - which also holds nostalgia to me. Me being me, I still have it all.

Is it just me who could smell those cassettes the moment he cracked the boxes? I don't know if it was the type of plastic used or the ink used in printing the labels and sleeves, but there was a really specific smell to every cassette I ever opened for my Speccy or my Commodore 64. (my little brother had the Amstrad...) Happy holidays, Neil. Blooming hell what a trip down memory lane this morning.

In 86 I got a 16K Speccy with ‘Cruising On Broadway’ and ‘Jetpac’. A year later, 87, we upgraded to the CPC464 which was our home micro for the next 6 years. I remember that Amsoft bundle very well, and very fondly. Harrier Attack and Oh Mummy where pretty much THE games. Though, surprisingly, Animal Vegetable Mineral was in high rotation. I actually remember liking Bridge-It back in the day, and the odd game of Saltans Maze. I remember preferring the Codemasters Fruit Machine though.

Hey Neil, Really enjoyed this video. brought back so many memories for me. My parents bought our cpc 464 back in 1989 , and my parents would play the amsoft fruit machine till the early hours of the morning. mum said that they used to place bets on who would do the school run and who would cook dinner. lol my mum would play a game called "Heros of karn" text adventure. and she would have this massive folder full of a4 pages of maps that she drew. i remember sitting and watching and getting excited about the story and how the troll wouldn't let mum passed without doing some convoluted thing with a empty bucket and a chicken lol . i myself when i was allowed on the Amstrad would play a game called "heavy on the majick" i honestly didnt know what i was doing. but i loved trying different commands on the Apex ogre lol .

I had the Amsoft compilation for the CPC 6128, which shared some of those, plus some extra games (it was in disk format, too), and there were some gems in there - though most didn't really showcase the Amstrad's power. I took it to my grandmother's house that Xmas and placed it on an almost identical table to your picture (tablecloth included) and sat there for hours on end playing all of those, and also Desperado (Gunsmoke), Stardust, Gryzor... the memories!!

It must have been brand new as I recall opening this same pack. Still to this day I'm not sure why he bought the Amstrad and wish I asked him whilst he was alive. Maybe it was reduced on price (he loved a bargain) and despite being a Grandad he loved technology and embraced it when he could. Roland on the Ropes and Sultans Maze were my favourites. "Which way now?" Is engrained in my memory for Sultans Maze 😂 I also remember The Scout Steps out being a game I obsessed over along with Quabbalah 😂❤ What a machine

Playing games on the colour TV in the lounge at this time of year certainly is relatable. With so many different micro computers on the market and so many friends and relatives owning different systems exposure across many systems was great and prevented me from taking sides and partaking in the famous playground wars and regressing into fanboy-hood although I was known for the bigger fondness for the system(s) I owned myself.

I was obsessed with the Spectrum but never owned an Amstrad, though. But I totally can relate. My introduction was Manic Miner, and as tough as it was at the time, I was mesmerized by it. It was like I WAS the character on screen jumping and avoiding all the traps. Roland in The Caves gameplay-wise seems awful today, but I can see its appeal back in 1984. The concept of extending our experience onto the screen was new and so appealing that even with so archaic graphics we filled the gaps and made it work in our heads. And to add to that we had the arcades that were leaps and bounds ahead of the domestic videogame experience...

So much nostalgia! My grandad bought himself a CPC464 when I was young. It came with this pack, although there's a couple of titles I don't remember (I've never played Bridge-it). He had the green screen, so I've never seen these games in full colour! Harrier Attack was my favourite, I must've put over a hundred hours into that game as I played it every time I visited, from the age of 6 up to my mid-teens. Oh Mummy and Roland on the Ropes were good, Roland in the Caves however I could never get the hang of?! My gran kept the computer set up in her dining room after my grandad passed away in 1997. Sadly, when we were clearing out her house after she passed away in 2012, there was no sign of it. I was gutted as I'd have loved to have kept the machine as it was such a big part of my childhood. But only for a few mins then I remember how much better our kit is now. Good we have places like yours so we can take a glimpse back but don't have to suffer all those chip tunes anymore.

🤯 as soon as I saw that thumbnail it bought back so many memories of my older sisters green screened Amstrad. I had completely forgotten about Roland and Harrier Attack 😊 brilliant games at the time.

When I got my Schneider CPC464 with monochrome monitor all I had at first was the demo-tape...called 'Soft? Nein-Nein-Nein!' In summer '88 I sold the CPC to family and bought an Amiga 500, a shop-demonstration-model, for halve retailprice...about one year later I discovered that the shop-people had forgotten to remove the A501 512KB memory expansion! Best buy ever!

I am envious of your memories. Though I wasn't the enthusiast that my brother was, I still remember the Christmas morning where our parents had us open a whole series of similarly sized gifts, with each being a Super Nintendo game and then they let us open the system last. They kept joking that they didn't realize that the game wouldn't work on the NES system that we already had.

A somewhat funnier (to me at least) early computer memory was when I got in trouble at school because of what I did when I was bored in the computers class. I think the lab had all Apple IIs which I knew reasonably well because we had one at home. When I was fooling around with a friend, I went into the settings and changed all of the colors on the customizable color menu to black. The computer didn't have any errors, but it only displayed black text on a black background with a flashing black indicator and black highlights. It took them ages to figure out what was wrong, but it didn't take very long at all for them to figure out who was sitting at that computer and when it "stopped working." If I were really clever I would have pulled the trick on someone else's computer.

i got my CPC464 on Christmas 1987 and it came with an awesome Ocean Top 20 hits compilation excusive to Dixons. So many great games to play that morning, Arkanoid, Game Over, Green Beret, Yie Ar Kung Fu, Head Over Heels...was spoilt for choice. Before that id been going round my mates and using his CPC464 which came with all the Amsoft games, spent hours on Fruit Machine and 3D Stunt Rider.

I got that pack with my CPC, tried them all and Oh Mummy and Harrier attack were the only ones I liked. Those two would keep me awake all night.

6 months after Christmas 1984 for my 11th birthday, I got my Amstrad CPC 464 (double shot tall keys version) with the colour monitor, this exact game pack, some blank tapes, and a Cheetah 125+ joystick. It was totally a 10 Jammy Dodgers out of 10 experience!

I have similar feelings about my CPC6128, ironically my interest really took off when I learnt how to connect a tape player and could play cheaper games that were more widely available on tape.
