@@Britishshadow absolutely. I think they could’ve done way more with Galloway later on. If he’d had returned as a DCI or DSU in the 1990ish period that would’ve been excellent.

I'd say the bill was good from 84 to about 98, that's when they changed to the soapie style plotlines and that's when it began its gradual decline from a unique fly on the wall style cop show to just another boring drama. It was really sad to see good characters then turned into rubbish with the new crappy plotlines. It couldn't end soon enough after that.
@Jeremy-f3s
@Jeremy-f3s Күн бұрын
@@Britishshadow the opening series in 84 was some of the best tv I've ever seen, it was very much about how Galloway and Cryer interacted at the station and they even had Burnside in the first series as the dubious DS that Sergeant Cryer instantly didn't like.

I used to watch The Bill from 1990 through to the end in 2010 as I live down the road from the former The Bill's production studios in Merton and it was great to see The Bill being filmed in my local area. I also appeared as an extra in an episode of The Bill back in March 2003 plus I met many of The Bill's cast over the years, including the three fine actors here.

I was temping at a wine distributors that was next door to what became Sun Hill nick. I had to move some equipment that had been purchased from the departing business so got to know the yard at the back very well. I was really dubious when told it was going to become Sun Hill nick. Fast forward 5 years, I moved into a flat having stripped it for decorating before I moved in, three was a knock on the door and there was our caretaker and a couple of people from the production looking for a location. They filmed a couple of short Scenes of "Video Nasty" at my place which was where an ex soldier lived who had booby trapped a TV & VCR after being burgled. Billy Murray was involved. Seemed to be a really nice guy chatting with the neighbours and even making a fuss of my cat who was locked in the bedroom. I was talking to one of the guys who told me that they had blown out the front of a shop in Tooting a couple of days before which he had obviously enjoyed. I like watching old episodes now too see the old Roundshaw estate where I once lived. I stopped watching it when it got too soapy. I think TV started a decline when Thames were robbed of the licence and now don't watch any live TV.

Thanks for your comment I thought I must've misheard her, did she actually say Garver? Clearly hasn't watched a single episode, nothing worse than chat show hosts faking their knowledge of a show they've obviously never watched. If it had been one of the newer characters I could understand but he was the original character, the show literally started with him in 83 in that wooden top pilot.

I went to several Bill Reunions at the Cinema Museum and Graham Cole OBE is a good friend to Sarah and Myself, the evenings are fantastic, very light hearted with the stars talking about their time on the show ans then a Q&A session after, the stars sit tat tables and do signed autographs and have a chat, through the exenings I have met the beautiful Suzannne Maddock ( Cass Rickman ( my crush)), Kim Tiddy ( Honey Harman) Eric Richard ( SGT Bob Cryer) Mark Wingett ( PC/DC Jim Carver) Trudie Gooodwin ( PG/SGT June Ackland) I have even met Carole Royle, Johnathan Lyndsey, the last event with Graham, Mark and Trudie was the one ALLL BILL FANS were wanting, some fans even came over from AUSTRALIA, and Trudie got a surprise when she was shown her Warrant card and other memoribelia she used during the show and the guy had put it in a frame and Trudie was shocked and signed the frame. Enging the show was the biggest mistake that ITV ever made as a whole, although the Government of the time were forcing Police services to close Police stations but thinking of a reboot I doubt there would be any CID as many forces have a centralised investigation centre and no custody as many Police services now have dedicated facilities to house the accused. Show wouldnt be the same without GC, to me The Bill dies when he did his last show, Graham also does an evening where he talks about his life from birth to the present day, it is very interesting, we have been to a couple one in Frimley Green at Lakeside and one at the Westcliff theatre in Clacton on sea ( forget the critics CLACTON ON SEA IS A LOVELY PLACE) Cant wait for Bill Reunion in November

It was probably too expensive to make with all the stunts. Thames Television losing its franchise in 1993 probably wasn’t the best either as the show was outside the core itv network till it been cancelled in the 2008 recession. It got a decent run considering the likelihood of boardroom battles it probably went through to keep it on air over the years.
