U need to change the belt, pinchroller, lubrication of gears, calibration of motor speed and demagnatize the head...

Agreed. That's exactly what was missing from this video; belt replacement, gear and mechanical lubrication, head azimuth alignment/demagnetizing, tape speed calibration.

Estupendo trabajo. Por favor, qué tipo de papel y/o de impresora se emplea para recrear las indicaciones de Play, Stop, etc?? Great job. Please, what type of paper and / or printer is used to recreate the indications of Play, Stop, etc?

The rubber belt is worn out. You need to change it with new one. Maybe need to check rubber role who move tape in front of head.

Back in 2014, I bought a General Electric cassette recorder from the 70s/80s. After using it for a while, the recorder broke and I later found out what was wrong with it. I found out that the tape belt broke and later I got another tape belt that was used for another cassette player's counter. I used that and sure enough, I got the recorder to run again.

Hmmmm ... No lubrication of the flywheel shaft or metal plates crushing against each other? Abrasion marks on them indicate places of contact. A drop of oil would be nice. The pressure rubber roller can be held in kerosene for 2 hours- Will be soft like just from factory.

Once the pinch rollers go hard and shiny, I usually throw them out and fit new ones, especially in decks that are 40+ years old.

this is inspiring and in an odd way very stimulating to watch. thank you for sharing this with the world! i feel empowered to take apart my TCM-737. it struggles to rewind or fast forward on one end of the tape or the other (more tension)

You need to change rubber belt from motor to driven shaft. Contor belt is good idea to be changed as well.

You seriously used gloves, covered with grease, when you assembled a deck unit? WTF man?! It's not a "restoration", it's a nuisance, heresy! Rubber parts will never work properly after that. And you had to properly align and adjust deck unit after assembling, using oscilloscope and special alignment cassettes... It was terrible...
@chekiechekie
@chekiechekie 3 жыл бұрын
aligning mono heads is very easy, and can be done by ear, since the tolerance is far less sensitive than a stereo head. None of this oscilloscope and alignment cassette needed.
@Ashen2501
@Ashen2501 3 жыл бұрын
@@chekiechekie So using gloves covered with grease doesn't concerns you at all? "Restoration" means that device will work like a new or almost like a new. What's worse - even on mono heads you have to use oscilloscope with alignment tapes - it IS crucial to make the device compatible with stereo decks. Even few angular minutes of a heads misalignment will fuck it up. ^_^
@chekiechekie
@chekiechekie 3 жыл бұрын
@@Ashen2501 sheesh, stop being such a drama queen! If you look at the video based on what he achieved - to make an old tape recorder look awesome, and totally clean up the mechanism and make it work (albeit not perfectly), then he is to be commended wholeheartedly. As for your oscilloscope and alignment cassette, consider that the frequency response of the mono head ranges from maybe 80hz to about 10khz or maybe even less, and rubbish dynamic range, honestly speaking, aligning the head by ear is sufficient and doesn't deserve more time than that. There are two screws for the head, the right hand side is fixed and doesn't need adjusting, and the left hand one is the one needing the adjustment. Put on a bit of dance music with a lot of treble, or some classical music with a lot of brass and high strings and i bet you that you'd do just as well as an oscilloscope. Anyway, to my mind there is no WTF about this video at all. Just chill out!
