Step into the world of aviation history at the Pima Air & Space Museum! Located near the historic aviation boneyard and Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, this museum is home to over 400 aircraft, including legendary warplanes, bombers, and helicopters. Join us as we take you on a 50-minute adventure, showcasing some of the most iconic aircraft in military history and the incredible space shuttle rocket booster!
We begin by exploring Hangar 1, where you’ll see a Wright Brothers replica, the powerful Pratt & Whitney R-4360 engine, and the sleek General Electric J47 jet engine. From there, we move through the hangar to view a collection of historic piston engines, including the Clerget 9B and Hall Scott A-7A, before arriving at the tail gunner’s position of a B-52D Stratofortress. Don’t miss the tiny but fascinating Starr Bumble Bee, one of the smallest manned aircraft ever made!
Next, we step outside to witness an impressive display of aircraft, including the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II, the B-52G bomber, and the Convair B-36J Peacemaker, the largest piston-engined aircraft ever built. We’ll also explore helicopters, like the Bell UH-1C Iroquois from Apocalypse Now, complete with its six-barrel gun and rocket launcher.

Heading to Hangar 4, we see the mighty B-29 Superfortress, known for its role in World War II, and replicas of the infamous Little Boy and Fat Man bombs. Get ready for even more as we dive into the space hangar, featuring an X-15A-2 mockup, Apollo Command Module, and space shuttle cockpit trainer.

I remember coming here when it had a dusty old trailer as the front gate, ticket taker and reception area and lots of dirt with no buildings yet but it was still awesome and only gotten better.
