400's are the most sportsmanlike gentlemen in all of chess. If either player gets any kind of advantage, be it very slight or absolutely gigantic, they always make sure to give it back immediately. They truly understand the spirit maybe not of chess, but of playing a game.

I kind of had a game like this yesterday which reminds me why I WAS still only 670. Having fallen for the oldest trick in the book with the fast bishop with queen checkmate because I wasn’t concentrating and thought I’d try something different, I was still thinking about my last game and ended up making a mess in a game like this that I should have won. You get a lot of this down at 600 so a lot of my wins tend to be come back wins as I get attacked early but usually don’t worry because often those strategies create weaknesses for themselves if I can carefully navigate through without losing more pieces than I have to (eg accept I’ve lost my bishop and take a pawn just to further weaken them when I’m trapped). Eventually my defence is ok but they’ve left their king vulnerable and spaces I can exploit later (if I get that far 😂).

As a youth like you Levi, I was small in stature and that didn't bode well in a tough Mississippi River town. I got tired of being pounded so I started to fight back and got good at it. Later, after a career that included bar fights and brawls with opposing gangs, in the early 1960's, I discovered a group in the lower Eastside of Manhattan called the Catholic Worker Movement and met a fine women named Dorthy Day and a bunch of other dedicated individuals. It was there I learned about non-violence in the search of Justice, and my fighting career took an abrupt turn. A decade ago I returned to playing chess after a 50 years of doing a lot of other things, and am enjoying the "brawling" aspect...aware that I need some work on the finer points. I check in with you most every day, and very much enjoy your open mindedness and enthusiasm. So thanks for your commentary and my plans are to sign up for your middle game course when my schedule lightens a bit.
