Great info as always guys. My personal experience is that I find 4050 a little more user friendly when airbrushing Candy2o. It’s just seems more stable and a lot more forgiving. It keeps in the bottle better too. That’s nothing but my opinion of course. I’ve used 4050 for a top coat and it polished up pretty nice. I also really like it as a bed for dry flake. It’s a hell of a versatile paint for sure.
@CreatexColors3 жыл бұрын
Since 4050 was introduced, we've only used it and not 4030 as the carrier-medium for candy2o. In our opinion its superior as its stays evenly mixed, which also allows it to be applied a bit heavier for improved coverage, which make for easier application of an even, uniform finish. Thank you.

4020 Reducer is still available, but we never use it as we're in a controlled spray-booth. 4020 is for painting in humid conditions, and is best used when mixed with 4011 Reducer, ex. mix 4011 Reducer 1:1 4020 Reducer when painting in a humid environment. 4050 is awesome. Pay attention when you grab a reducer... I made the mistake of accidentally using 4012, I was putting a clear coat on the headstock of a guitar I was repairing and refinishing. Had a gorgeous gloss, however, I needed to buff it a bit to more of a satin. I know, why didn’t I just use a satin? Well, starting with a satin, that is what you get, but by buffing the gloss a bit you can control the satin look. The finish was 3 days cured, felt great, until I hit it with a buffer, that 4012 didn’t allow the undercoat to fully cure at all. That gloss came of that surface like melted butter. I was standing there looking at the mess I was holding, trying to figure out what just happened and I looked over at the bottles sitting next to the Grex .07 mini spray gun. And there it was, I grabbed a bottle of 4012, not 4011 reducer off the shelf. Note to self, no more shooting finishes at midnight after a long 15 hour day... for some reason, 4012 looked a lot like 4011 at that time of the night...

Since getting the 4050 I have not touched the 4030. Mixing candy2o with the 4050 is an awesome mix even with very fine detail on an airbrush. Using it with my .18 GSI Creos I found it sprays better then with the 4030 and felt it was actually more stable when doing super fine detail. One other thing I noticed, is once the 4050 drys for a bit, I was able to go back over with white for details without the need for the bleed checker. Not sure if anyone else has had the same experience, but nice not having to apply yet another product with going back and forth with candy and lighter colors.

Yes, each will work, but adding 4030 to paint intended for airbrushing with tip-sizes smaller than 0.5mm, the 4030 is better as it allows for fine atomization of the paint with less thinning compared to adding 4050. Thank you.

4050 UVLS Gloss Clear is a clear, and can be applied over a prepared surface as a clear, ground-coat. This is a key function of 4050. 4030 Balancing Clear can also be used this way, however it doesn’t have the build or the same durability as 4050. Of the two, 4050 is recommended for use as the clear over your mural before painting. Thank you.

I've ordered some of your products and can't wait to get started. I paint guitars and drums. My question is, can the 4050 be used as a topcoat clear for these instruments? I realize for motorcycles, and automotive applications, you would need a 2k clear, but is the 4050 durable enough for say, a guitar? Will it level and buff as shiny as a 2k. I'm especially interested in the matte clear for guitars. Thanks for all the informative videos you do!
@CreatexColors2 жыл бұрын
We would not recommend UVLS Clear as a top-coat on a guitar refinish. A 2k clear is going to be more durable. Yes, 4050 can be polished so its as glossy as a 2k urethane clear, however it will not have the mar resistance. Thank you.

Great insight. Aside from this UVLS gloss clear being used as a carrier across your entire Createx paint line and intercoat clear, can this product also be used as a final top-coat for painted canvases across your paint line? Since this clear is comprised of a urethane resin instead of acrylic, is this more or less fine to spray indoors wearing a respirator or it's recommended sprayed in a more air controlled environment such as a spray booth? Thank you for sharing.
@CreatexColors3 жыл бұрын
Hello. UVLS Clears can be used as a top-coat across the entire range of Createx paints. UVLS Clears are an acrylic - polyurethane resin paint. As for even Wicked Colors (made with an acrylic resin), a respirator should be worn when applying the paint at all times in an open environment. When painting in a spray-booth / controlled environment with moving air, a respirator should be worn when applying with a spray-gun. For more, please refer to the SDS available at www.creatextech.com. Thank you.

@CreatexColors2 жыл бұрын
4030 and 4050 are both clears made with a urethane resin. When mixed with Createx paints that are made with an acrylic resin, the resulting blend of urethane & acrylic resin makes for a paint with excellent performance onto hard-surfaces, in both adhesion and durability. Hi mate what would the best intercoat product be to use over airbrush artwork to seal it in when you don’t have time to finish it and 2k clear it in the same day? Can’t decide on the 4030,4050 and 6000 also once any of the above are sprayed over your artwork do you need to scuff them before laying more paint on top if left for say a week, take it all these will stop any paint lifting if you put any tape on top of your art as well Thanks Chris

6000 AutoBorne Transparent Sealer is an excellent inter-coat. Best practice is to sand 600 to 800-grit dry then cleaning with a solvent-based degreaser or 99% isopropyl alcohol before applying paint. If deciding to skip sanding, make a test panel first to test dry times and adhesion before doing so on an actual paintjob. Thank you.

4011 Reducer, only 4011 Reducer with candy2o. Its best to focus on atomization, and how the paint is spraying given your set-up and subjective preference rather than try to determine a specific mix ratio. In regard to aluminum and 6013 silver Sealer, 6013's metallic count was improved last year so that now an aluminum colors is not necessarily required; it can be for added flake or a larger aluminum coarse look, however 6013 is a good metallic base for candy2o in itself. Thank you.

Definitely make a test panel before the actual paintjob; we're unsure about how long 4050 UVLS Clear should be allowed to dry before the water slide decal process, it may be best to allow for a full 48-hours air drying before applying the water slide decal. Additionally, for a high gloss finish, you may wish to finish off with a few coats of 4053 High Gloss Clear, which cures to a higher gloss-level compared to 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear. Thank you.

Yes. Allow the 2k clear to thoroughly flash, then scuff up to 600-800 grit sandpaper. Use a post-sanding degreaser or isopropyl alcohol as a cleaner before paint, not water. Thank you.

@@CreatexColors Do you have a 2K clear that you recommend? I saw in the motorcycle video I saw recommend American Icon and /or PPG. I do allot of gilding with dutch metal (aluminum leaf) and my goal is to get it the silver (aluminum) surface as shiny as possible before a clear bond coat. I know that makes it even harder to bond ......obviously. I saw you use the 4050 on Mr. Gerald's fantasy art, but I can't put a mechanical key on the aluminum leaf like he does on his panels. I've tried all kinds of clears with no luck. Whatever leads you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for all the great videos. Love your products!

Can I use it as a clear coat over rustoleum oil based paint?
@CreatexColors3 жыл бұрын
4050 UVLS Gloss clear is a top-coat clear; 4030 Balancing Clear is for use as an inter-coat clear and as a mixing additive for use with colors. While 4030 may be used as a top-coat clear, that not an intended use as it is for 4050. Always test first before using new materials especially when inter-coating Createx paints and an oil based paint. Thank you.

I was debating on whether pr not to use the 4050 to clear my welding helmet or an automotive 2 k clear. has there been any durability tests done with it ?
@CreatexColors3 жыл бұрын
Yes, over a year's worth. Without a doubt, adding 4050 to Wicked Colors is more durable compared to not. 4050 is an architectural clear, which has been used successfully for outdoor paintjobs such as signs. For a helmet, or any automotive paintjob, we recommend a 2k urethane clear, not so much for durability against outdoor elements, but for the increased mar resistance an automotive grade clear has over an architectural clear, Thank you,

If you apply 4050 one day and need to apply more latter on. Is it necessary to sand before reapplying?
@CreatexColors3 жыл бұрын
Sanding UVLS Clears before applying more UVLS Clear (i.e. 4050) is generally not required within 48 hours after application. If more than 2 days has passed, scuffing with 600-800 grit dry sandpaper is recommended before applying more UVLS Clear. Thank you.

@@CreatexColors when using 4050 as a carrier, if I let 48 hours pass and I do not spray an intercoat (4040) on top I would have to scuff the 4050/candy2o layer then before I proceed?
@CreatexColors3 жыл бұрын
4050 UVLS Clear works as an inter-coat clear, and could be applied over 4050 + metal flake to bury some of the flake before the final 2k clear. 4040 Bleed Checker is only for application over candy2o to prevent bleeding into colors applied on-top; otherwise 4040 isn't to be used as an inter-coat. 4050 and AutoBorne 6000 Transparent Sealer are the better inter-coats for Createx paints. Thank you.

@@CreatexColors oh no I get that 4040 is to stop the candy from bleeding buy say I was painting plastic clips, I washed them, scuffed with paste and then used a solvent based degreaser/ etc. Used 4050 and I plan on airbrushing on top. Can I spray a createx base (withing the 48 hour time window) and then not have to worry about scuffing the plastic parts again? I think I might have just answered my own question in my head haha

Can I use the 4050 with mission model paints you guys make them don't you.. I use the 4030 all the time with a lot of different paints I will order asap the 4050 to try it out .thanks again
@CreatexColors3 жыл бұрын
yes, 4050 can be mixed with Mission Model paint, they work well together, thanks

So 4030 is more of an additive only and the 4050 can be both additive and has more topcoat capabilities?
@CreatexColors3 жыл бұрын
Yes. 4050 is also an excellent adhesion coating for hard to paint substrates such as plastic and 3-D print composite material. Thank you.

When situations to you mix with paint vs using clear after paint job is complete?
@CreatexColors3 жыл бұрын
Mixing 4030 or 4050 with Createx paints is recommended anytime painting hard-surfaces such as plastic, metal and more. When to apply a top-coat is a matter of technique, but if the paint job is intended for exterior conditions, then a top-coat clear is always recommended. For more, please visit www.creatextech.com and review our Hard-Surface & Automotive Website Application Guide. Thank you.

Hey Chris, Thanks for the update! I’m guessing it’s still possible to use 4030 as an inter-coat, then finish the whole thing off with 4050? Also, I’ve got a .5 Grex airbrush with a fan tip, what would be the baseline ratio to mix 4050 effectively for that airbrush? 25% reducer as a starting point? Thanks in advance 🎩 🎨
@CreatexColors3 жыл бұрын
4030 can be used as an inter-coat, however 4050 is much better as it can be applied with more material and dries more level and harder compared to 4030, making it a better clear to lay graphics over & tape. In regard to thinning, 25% is a bit high, try 10% per volume and more up if needed, probably adding 4011 Reducer somewhere around 10% - 15% per volume. Thank you.

Using 4030 or 4050, is it water proof?
@CreatexColors2 жыл бұрын
Water-resistant and able to withstand submersion in water for prolonged periods, yes. However, only a catalyzed (2k) paint is truly water-proof. Thank you.
