I have to say, I really enjoyed your video, it really brings back so many memories, I also remember having a Murphy TV in my bedroom, it had a flip up panel at the top as well and you can listen to VHF (which bike then included the police). Please keep up the great work. George (central Scotland).

I never knew you could juggle the line hold to watch 625 on a 405 line telly! I bet those who knew went through line output valves at a rate of knotts!

The 2 image split screen effect was what a French 819 line signal produced on a 405 set with no line hold twiddling!

makes sense as it's almost exactly double the lines

My father was a TV and radio engineer going right back to the early days and the shop he worked for were Murphy, ekco and ultra dealers. I can remember him saying that the "flip top" was a pig of a thing to work on. Do I remember correctly that they had an oil filled line output transformer? The first TV I remember was an Ekco 405 only that I can remember watching watch with mother back in the mid sixties. Later we had a dual standard Murphy with the band switch being two knobs in the middle of the control side of the set. I think it might have been a 141 chassis. Perhaps someone might be able to confirm that.

Thank you for video! And in 1964 could watch BBC 2 at TV sets only with VHF tuners for tv system A, 405 lines with positive brightness and AM sound? Were tv box-converters on sale?

Very interesting video there! I've got lots of 405 line sets in my collection, many restored, no pre RBM Murphy sets though sadly. I like the idea of baseband video straight into the video amp, it works very well. Could you explain in more detail how you get the video from a PC into 405 lines, are you using a video card and changing the code in the driver to output on 405 lines? I've seen that done before. Currently I use an Aurora. Keep up the good work!!

Why was it spelt Black Hill on one side of the screen and Blackhill on the other?

How can a VCR made for 625 lines record and playback 405 lines so perfectly?

Really enjoyed your video. Very interesting seeing 405 line, not much on youtube about that. Can I suggest you stick the phone on a tripod? Gets a bit wavy otherwise.

Now you make me want to try this with a FL2000 Dongle and re-record it into a Mirics SDR and see what NTSC VHS machines will be able to hold it...

How is one supposed to know what frequencies to tune their tellies to? If you can see this screen, you’re obviously already on the right frequency!
