I had the same engine in my w221. Amazing car. You can easily reach 300 km/h on the highway and still drive in silence with music and a cup of hot tea in your hand. But considering that 99% of drivers on the road have driving skills comparable to a crash test dummy (especially in the USA), driving at such speeds outside the German autobahn is quite risky. The main thing to remember is that your relatives are waiting for you at home, not at the cemetery. edit: Cops in the USA make things like this even more dangerous than if they just let the person drive on because it's extra stress and extra stress means you lose concentration which means you'll make mistakes and your chances of having an accident increase exponentially. Just write down his number and send the fine by mail.

While your thoughts on German driving skills at high speeds vs. American driving skills is generally on point sending a ticket by mail is naive European perspective to an American problem that has reached epidemic proportions. These high speed chases occur because the car is stolen which happens about every 5 minutes or less in the States. Given the fact that the thief is running red lights through intersections at extremely high speeds while driving with no lights on is a recipe for serious injury or death by an unsuspecting driver minding their own business. I have driven hundreds of cars and this series of CLS handle amazing is just something about how they sit on road is a really nice design you don't even feel like you will Lose the backend as the ESP is so good on them is just a more sport version of E class Although I would say they are a heavy car and a lot of used ones may have suspension issues but If you have one on good tyres and set up well they are a nice drive. I'd feel confident in a chase in one they can take a lot of punishment also as a solid build car

To add also the standard headlights are not very good on these they are dipped to low. You have it upgrade the bulbs and get them set up different Is why the driver is confidant will no lights and just use high beam when needed. As the standard dipped bulbs hardly give any illumination anyway. So yep if in chase in a CLS of any gen turn lights off

I used to drive a CLS 550. Its power and high end speed were decent but it's real ability was cornering, which was impressive for a V8. Driven correctly, it will outrun most cop cars. I drive an S class now which has much more horsepower but struggles in the curves due to its weight.

Definitely has some skill but he made some really bad decisions (In addition to the ones that got him being chased in the first place lol) But he should have carried on the highway in the beginning and taken an exit later. Would have negated this whole chase. Taking that exit so early was a mistake because he had to keep slowing for traffic, x roads and turns, which nearly got him pitted Pretty car though. Also driving without lights through residential streets was beyond stupid. He should have only blackout when he guaranteed lost sight

I had this same setup, just added an additional switch or two. When I wanted black out, the tail lights, brake lights, turn signals turned off while front head lights, or running lights stayed on. Another mode was 3 gen plus night vision goggle that stayed in reach for true front and rear blackout Fun in TX AZ .. 😅

@@gtboard yeah these cars come out of factory with 275/35r18 with normal wheels. This car have aftermarket wheels looks like, so i’d say his tires are either 305/30r19 or r20 or 315/30r19 r20, not very comfortable, but very helpful in such situations lmao

In my opinion, cops are endangering more lives engaging in high speed chases than the criminals they're chasing. This is dangerous driving and he can lose his own life trying to catch a man who's obviously trying to get away. It'd be more professional to get his license plate or use the traffic cameras to locate him later, or radio other units to set up a road block or just let the guy go home in peace, except when a wanted fugitive is the one behind the wheels. This is so unnecessary.

Lol i love my cls 550. Im not sure why the amg didnt get the 7 speed trans but the cls550 (step below amg) got a 7 speed instead of a 5 speed. So that helps alot. When im at 240kmh the tach is at like 3k rpm lol. These cars arw made to go 200+ for a long time. They are made in a place where u csn go as fast as u want on the hwy

Of course the 63 models got the 7 speed mct. I think you’re confusing this gen with the prior 55 Kompressor models. They had the 5 speed because the 7 speed wasn’t developed enough to handle this much torque. Beautiful car you got there 😊
