Probably its best for this card to be mounted vertically with PCIe 4.0 riser cable, so if there is ever a need for the card to be taken out of the case (for cleaning purposes or w/e) its taken out together with the cable plugged in.

For the delam, you can drip super glue into the separated layers then clamp them together till it cures. Be sure to use Teflon between the board and clamp jaws, or you’ll have one solid piece lol.

I go by the rule "if it's not broken don't fix it. There are microscopic lines running thru every layer of the board. Layers are separating. This is not a kitchen countertop that you can just add glue to and press. I know we have a lot of handymen in the comments, but it's better left off as is.

Dust lightly under the pad with baking soda. Then press the pad down while adding a drop of supper glue. The bond is instant and rather strong. Hope it helps. Just be certain to hold the pad down before you use the glue. Capillary effect will pull it under

How the hell can a user mangle the PCIe fingers that bad?! I've never seen damage like that in my 35 years of working with PCs. Did a gorilla try to install the GPU?!
@AndrewFremantle
@AndrewFremantle 8 ай бұрын
It seems to me that damage would be directly related to the delamination - With the board delaminated like that, it's going to be much more difficult to install into the socket, especially if the installer isn't aware of that particular problem - hence more force being applied, at weirder angles, hence ripping and folding the fingers.

Using unreasonable force to get a card in that's maybe caught on the front or back edge of the slot, then jam in into the slot until it bottoms out? Or the pc case took a hard impact? Or maybe the card was plugged in and on 1000x? I'd recommend the owner to plug it in and never touch it again.

what if you have a similar issue, but the pad is too short to properly mate in the slot? would it be better to try to replace the pad? or would soldering an extension to the pad suffice? the worry is that it may be too thick or make poor contact if you just put a new pad against the end and solder.

It looks to me like this SHOULD be covered by warranty, but alas, it won't be. This poor user, who had their 4090 12VHP connector melt, probably was removing it from the motherboard, to have it fixed, and then dropped it directly onto the floor impacting the PCIE connector. Very unfortunate. But, had the 12VHP connector not failed, it would have not been necessary to remove it from the motherboard and the PCIE connector would have not have been damaged during the removal process. Nvidia caused the whole chain of events here with their faulty designed 12VHP connector that led to 4090 being removed after installed. If a melted power connector was present at all, Nvidia should replace the card, even if something else got broken during removal. Had the 4090 never failed, it would have remained installed and not had the need to be extracted from the PCIE slot. Fault is Nvidia.

For the delamination issue I would Mix a small batch of epoxy resin used for casting (runny resin that needs 24/48 hours to cure), soak all the layers with it and then secure the PCI slot using a bench press and sandwiching the slot between two flat small pieces of wood and then wait the resin to cure. It is very risky but that's the way I would proceed because that card has one foot in the grave with that delamination and it will most likely have the other foot in once the customer plugs it in
@BlueDevilsBari
@BlueDevilsBari 8 ай бұрын
...and then you would most likely end up with two pieces of wood attached permanently to the card. Congratulations on the marriage.

All I can say is at least nvidia is helping NorthridgeFix and others in the same industry to grow thier business and propser. Seems to me like the RTX4090 is just a card that should never have existed. From it's pricetag, to crumby power connector design, now the PCB falling apart at the slot. Sure maybe some of the PCB falling apart could be user being too rough with it, but I fail to see how the PCB could split layers like that in that way, normally if it was rough treatment after slotted in the socket you would get cracks on the PCB near the hook that we see all too often. For my amature brain, splitting of the PCB layers like that is just dodgey manufacturing. And I bet the manufacturer of the card refused warranty and called it physical damage too.

In all the years, nvidia has been making GPU's. I've never seen the board layers come apart! Either it's from the high current these cards draw or nvidia is making cards cheaper than they used too. If it is from the currect, maybe we need a beefer PCB's and stronger PCIe sockets. I'm guessing nvidia is probably just cheaping out on their newer cards that cost more than they ever have before.
