Such a great collection! The lion tamer with his lions - they don't look real! And the cigarette ad mentioning doctors... I recall my mother being upset with my father's doctor because my father had gone to him to quit smoking and the doctor was smoking during the appointment!

Sometimes there's way too LITTLE INFORMATION about the pictures. For instance at 10:36 "Light up the darkness"??? Who's that? A singer? Was he singing a song with that name? When?

Seeing as how this is supposed to be "historical" photos, it's surprising that nearly 50% of them lack dates, and some lack locations, when many could be easily guessed at. It takes away much of the impact.
@hensonlaura

Not to mention insignificant pop culture shots (the amazing time Mick Jagger sat w/2 other current singers & nothing at all happened), actors and starlet cheesecake shots. I guess actual historical photos are thin on the ground. What is bizarre: pictures of Barack Obama as a teenager sitting on a couch, or with his dope smokin' friends, but where's the pictures of Jimmy Carter in the Iran crisis? President Nixon being accused of high crimes against the state? Ronald Reagan Bringing Down the Berlin wall and ending communism in the USSR? Not pretty enough I guess. Welcome to the snowflake interpretation of "history".

you have to understand, for young people this is quite crazy. Its one thing for people to see so much change in their own life time, but for young people, seeing pictures from a past where everything was so different feels like looking at a different dimension. People looked completely differently, they all had very lean faces, much better bone development, their behavior and speech was different before all this technology, family actually meant something. Its unimmaginable for me to life in a time without technology, or when there were healthy gender roles and healthy gendered behavior.

@@sshreddderr9409 Oh brother! In 1961 JFK was concerned that the tv watching, junk food eating boomers would turn into useless soldiers in the next war, and Robert Preston recorded Chicken Fat as a way to get kids moving in PE class or at home. Boomers were told the population would evolve into balls and roll wherever they went. You are seeing what you want to see, not what really happened, keeping in mind these are posed photos with people deemed to fit the part.

What can I say looking at these moments in life throughout so many years so many interesting years born in Shanghai… 1943 …. In the international concessions with my sister … Annick….. of a mother half Japanese and British… my father was from St Cyr.. and speaking fluent French English and Japanese… and later on became the military attaché in Tokyo… we were there with him at that time… moments difficult not to remember… she was expecting me and was invited for the premiere of the film GONE WITH THE WIND … the water broke during the film ending part one. …. She never saw the other part of the film and left us few years ago when she arrived in France. Now my son Olivier who was a reporter with REUTERS is trying to put things together now… specially with his father who was living in India… like us for four years…. Life is incredible with surprises… but I cherish the life I had … I don’t regret anything… I had an incredible life.

Post mortem photos? I'm guessing because those were the definite odd photos. There are many myths regarding Victorian post mortem photos. The Victorians did not pose, prop or paint the dead to appear alive. That is a myth. Victorian post mortem photos were rare but quite obvious with the decedent lying in repose in a bed or coffin. Photography was new and with such high mortality rates, if someone died before having the opportunity to have photos taken, a post mortem photo was better than no photo. That's why post mortem photos were taken. In cases of impending death, the photographer was called on, and if he arrived before the death, a pre-mortem photo was preferred.
