I purchased this machine and I'm very very happy with the product. NewAir Countertop Clear Ice Maker, 40 lbs. makes CLEAR CLEAR CLEAR ice. If you're looking to buy a portable ice machine and you also want clear ice...This is the machine you want. thanks for making the video it helped me decide to buy this machine.

This is how a legitimate ice machine works... a little tweaking and you have quality ice. This is a scaled down version of the Manitowoc ice machines used in hotels. I want one... and an old fashioned.

I currently have a Frigidaire Model EFIC452-SS-CU. It can also do 40 pounds a day and my ice is clearer, I think it’s because I have a water softener in the garage and a reverse osmosis water filter under the kitchen sink (San Antonio, Texas has very hard water). I’ve been very happy with it. It does have the capability to change the size of the ice.

Gotta say... I am a new fan! I have liked, subscribed and clicked that little... bell...notification..thingy.. Two takeaways from this video: 1. The reaction to that bowl on the island nearly falling... It's happened to me far to many times. With my luck it would be my wifes great great grandmothers bowl that nearly shattered to smithereens. 2. Thanks for the notice after the two bourbons were poured... I stopped paying attention to you and was only concerned with "who will now partake in these tasty beverages?" Great content.. Now I''m back to watching more of your older videos!

We have one of these bought about 2 years ago. Probably a different brand name. (It's at our lake house.) It does make sort of clear ice from tap water. Around every 12 to 15 minutes it makes a tray. What I don't like about ours and probably yours, it doesn't store the ice well. It is wet ice. Slowly melting as you hold it. If you use it right away, it works fine.

I have a similar icemachine from tectake. Its operating the same way. I get clear ice from tap but i live in sweden and we have about the best tapwater in the world so its a bad comparison. What i usually do since its not breaking apart is filling a container up in the freezer with a metal scoop of some sort and just tap on the back of the icecubes, where they are frozen together. Good review. Would have bought if i were living in the us and didnt have an icemachine. Since i love my cuba libre and gin tonics packed with ice.

Keep in mind clear ice isnt possible if your water supply is super hard. Use bottled or RO. Not hydroviv or fridge filters, those dont remove hard minerals. NO clear ice units can make clear ice outta hard water without an RO system

@DjJtown

The issue with these type of home units is their compact design; vertical freezing interface (grid). Your commercial units use an slightly inclined freezing plate (about 15 degrees) that then heats up for the slab to slide onto a heated wire slicing grid. With that being said, if the freezing interface (grid) was inclined even at just 45 degrees, you'd get much clearer ice since the water would not be "falling" over the horizontal grids, which is trapping air that would have been eliminated by a less inclined plate.

I am wondering how this machine is holding up. I have purchased two of the lower cost machines and have only gotten about three years of service life total service life from the two. I got an extra year of that by making one from the two, only about a year each. The problem is they use a small gear reduction motor to scoop and dump the ice into the bin. That motor is subject to rust and corrosion and fails in about a year. The two machines I purchased cost around two hundred US dollars the repair I did only cost me the time to do it, around three hours . So I am at the end of my three year service life, I won’t be able too repair it again. So after all that is said this unit uses gravity to put the ice in the bin so won’t need a new motor every year, which makes me think it is a better value . Do you concur?

I have a different brand of ice maker. I use the ZeroWater filter, and the water is so free of mineral content that the sensors in the ice maker don't make a connection. I have to add a 1/4 cup of tap water just so it will conduct enough current to trip the sensors. Best filter ever!

If you don’t want your cubes stuck together subtract from the ice making timer. Mine has a setting that you can add additional minutes to the process for the thick stuff that comes in chunks or subtract time from the process for smaller cubes. Work with your timer function until you get the size you want. If you subtract enough time from the ice making process they don’t come out as one big block. My adjustability is in 1 min increments. Default is 0 if you set it to 1 it extends the ice making process 1 extra minute or -1 would be one minute subtracted from the process ETC. mine is the Frigidaire version which is identical to this one under the lid. Does yours not have this function??

It doesn't matter what kind of water you use; it will still trap air bubbles in a closed ice cube tray, like he said. This is a micro miniature version of commercial ice cube maker. The issue is that it's too vertical to prevent air entrapment. If you can hear the water "gurgling", it's trapping air. For $240; not on sale and being a compact counter top unit; it's not too bad of a product.
@nocturnechanson

you know spring water isn't actually filtered or anything, it's literally just water taken from the ground. So its still pretty terrible water. Water from your fridge is probably filtered better than spring water. What you should be using is bottled purified water if you want to make a fair comparison and reduce variance.
