Really enjoying your channel! A quick correction regarding your comparison: I think you may be confusing "longer reach" with higher resolution. When comparing the images at 100%, it will look like the 61MP image reaches further, but all you are doing is cropping in more because of the higher resolution. The more accurate test is to unlock the Zoom when comparing images and set one at 100% and the other at whatever is necessary to get the same framing. That way, you can see how much more detail there is in the Leica image AND/OR how similar they are when looking at Nikon image at 100% and Leica zoomed at ~40%. On the Q2/Q3, if you shoot in RAW, you can enable the crop framing so that when you import your images, they will automatically be cropped at 35/50/etc. You can then crop out or move the composition around as you wish. I have found that workflow to be super easy and gets me to the results I am looking for much quicker. I see the world at 35, but there are a number of occasions where the 28 comes in super handy.

Thank you very much for your feedback and explanation! A lot of people mentioned this in the comments and I'm glad for people like you correcting and educating me on the subject. After reading all these comments it total makes sense because of the 60MP, but while creating this video I didn't think about it. Lesson learned! Also I just want to add, that I didn't want to diminish the quality of the Leica APO lens in any regard. It is one of the best lenses in this world, specially in this package. But still just wanted to illustrate the way I take pictures in daily use, sometime the ultimate quality doesn't matter as much and other cheaper offers are good enough. Always depends how someone is shooting. At least that's my opinion :) A mill thanks again for your detailed and respectful feedback + your time watching and commenting! Highly appreciated!

When you zoom to 100% in Lightroom, the magnification level is influenced by the camera's megapixel count. This means that higher resolution sensors will display more detail at the same magnification level compared to lower resolution sensors. For instance, a 60-megapixel Leica camera will show a smaller area of the image at 100% zoom than a 24-megapixel Nikon camera, giving the impression of greater reach or magnification. The difference in how the images appear at this zoom level is primarily due to the higher megapixel count of the Leica, rather than the slight difference in focal length, which is only about 3mm. This explains why the Leica image might look more "zoomed in" or detailed; it's capturing more information per unit area due to its higher resolution sensor.

The Z40/2 is great for the money. And fits the Zf, which I own, perfectly. But if you really want to compare a lens that would have a chance against the Leica, I would have selected the Z50/1.8S. Insanely good lens for the money and close enough for a fair comparison. I have the Q3 with the 28/1.7 lens and it is great at what it is supposed to do. Exactly, I have A7CII which is an amazing camera paired with 40mm G lens but it doesn't inspire me to go out and shoot for my personal needs since I get the very same resultat with my pair of A7iv and those I consider as working tools for my profesional work. These don't inspire me to go out and document everyday life at all. People need to stop saying yeah but I can get "better" camera for much cheaper price. The definition of "better" is not same for everyone, "better" for my personal work is "design, feel & form factor" where "better" for my professional work is"perfomance, image quality & lens choices". That's why I am looking at Leica q3 43 even though I can by almost three A7IV's. It's not always about performance and price for everyone. Cheers!

I also have both cameras with the same 40mm lens for Nikon. If you compare more detailed shots especially with lower ISO I clearly see the difference. The Q3 43 images do have definitely much more detail and micro contrast. The Q lens is sharp up to the corners, where the 40mm Nikon is visibly softer. And the APO lens also has a quicker sharpness falloff which is quite pleasing on real people portrait shots. In general the Leica shots has more punch right out of RAW files, not so much in low light high ISO situations, but on outdoor scenes. With lenses it is always the same. The first 90% of quality is easy to obtain, but if you want to get the last 10% you have to pay!

Thanks for this chat (and the corrections). I realise the Q3 43 will be a success and that loads of people express a desire for that camera with that focal length, but for me it feels completely counterintuitive to settle for a 60MP super expensive fixed lens system that does not allow wide angle work. Those 60Mp are welcome with the 28mm lens because it allows both wide angle work and sufficient high resolution cropping for close quarter portrait work. That is infinitely more flexible and makes that 28mm version of the Q3 a credible street/travel/events/indoors/walkaround body. This 43mm model is much more limited in terms of real world applications. Most users will end up carrying a second body/lens combo to allow for wider shots. Remember, you can always crop in post but you cannot increase your field of view. On the other hand, the 24MP Zf with a 26 and 40 will be much more useful. Or even get a 45MP Z7 for added cropability (marginally lighter and smaller than Zf).
@sincosy2 ай бұрын
Hi sir, I can understand your thoughts for the wider field of view. But let´s be honest. We all carry our phones in our pockets, with a wide lens which is good enough for my wide angle shots. So at the end, it`s about personal preferences. I like shooting street and portraits. The 43mm looks like a very very good choice for that. For my wide angle shots, I personally take out my iPhone and am happy.
@brusselssprout12 ай бұрын
@@sincosy to each their own, and I wish you the best, but with that logic, if one is satisfied with phone quality wide angle pictures, it would make very little sense to invest in a 7,000 USD camera for "standard focal length" images. Even more so as top of the line phones now provide a choice of on board high res cameras, including short tele lens capability. Add to this the constantly improving real time distance and subject analysis that allows increasingly credible fake background blur in "portrait" mode, and you also have "good enough" standard and short tele shots. Going back to the Q3: 43mm is way too limiting for most "street" action: you can crop a 28mm shot to magnify your main subject, you cannot "decrop" a 43mm to include enough of the scene.
@domtomas11782 ай бұрын
I’ve use a 50mm equivalent lens on my Fuji X-pro2 for street, portraits and every day carry. Hardly ever needed a wide angle. Although I can always take a few shots and stick them together if I really need to.

You are my daughter's favorite: brussels sprout (I like them too). And I like your logic. This is exactly why I am keeping my Q2 for now. If I need to crop to 35mm (in camera JPG) or 43mm (RAW in Lightroom) I can still get great pics. The whole idea for the Q2 from the beginning was to have one very high quality camera to carry, versus any number of the other cameras I have and many lenses. Maybe in a couple of years I will add a used Q3 28, but I doubt I would get the 43.

@ringwraith232 ай бұрын
@RonK Beg to differ on the resale value. When looking at listings for Q2 or Q3 cameras they have gone down significantly from their retail price. And this is from professional retailers that offer warranty for used products. Expect to get less as a private seller. I would even claim that you could almost buy a new Zf from the value depreciation of a new Q3 over a few years but this might be pushing it. For me it’s fine that digital cameras lose value over time as I get use out of them (analog is a different story or untouched collector’s items). Leica is no different here than other brands.

All depends on the simple economic principle of demand and supply. Everyone would have said, that old digital Fuji cameras are worthless after being older then 2 years. And now look at these Fuji second hand prices. Currently Fuji prices are more stable compared to digital Leica cameras such as the Q and SL bodies. Even the M bodies are taking their hit. Who knows, if in the future again some kinda hype happens around e.g. Nikon the Zf might be worth the retail price or even higher. Thanks for watching!

In some situations even my bad eyes now see some kind of difference for the Q3 43 or it is my mind trying to justify the purchase :D Have fun with the Q3. I think with your eyes you won't be disappointed with that APO. Thanks for watching!

It's a very good comparison and I've said the modern cameras are now reaching a plateau where a $2000 camera can be as good as a $6000 camera in the right circumstances and we know with Lieca cameras you are paying for build quality and a whole bunch of other things besides the actual photo that it produces in fact many ways for many of those users. The final product is not probably the most important thing. It's the experience of taking a photo and enjoying being outside or with friend. The outcome of photos is often not the most important thing in Photography and that's something you discovered later on. That's not to say that it's not a valid video to test the two cameras. It's great and intriguing. I personally wouldn't spend that kind of money on a camera of that type. I do have a big GFX camera for my professional grade Work, but I wouldn't be spending the equivalent money for basically a 40 mm Street camera. I could get a Fuji XT3 for $1000 and put just as good quality images you could grab about five or six modern cameras right now and put them all side-by-side and it would be very difficult to tell the difference in image quality with the equivalent 40 mm lens.

My new favorite KZbin video. I feel so good having saved $4400 on my Xf + 40mm f2. Now I need a Leica Q3 vs Zf + 26mm 2.8. Obviously the Q3 will demolish the 26mm in aperture capability, but it would be interesting to see from 2.8 and smaller.

Try the Voigtlander Apo Lanthar VM (M mount) 50mm f2. Just stunning, and I have Otus to compare to, although character is very different. You can mount this to any camera that can adapt well (MILC). Manual focus is a skill to learn and it's tiny and light and the images really stand out.£500 used. Bargain

Volker (?)/Phil, a thorough examination of the subtle differences. If I ever get my Q3 43 I can test with a CV 40, f/1.2 on an M9 and/or M240 to see how it compares using CCD and/or CMOS. The X2D + XCD 55V test would offer the same. But that is getting a little far into the woods. My biggest problem is always what I put in front of the camera and not the gritty details of the bokeh usw. I just try to get a good photo and am hoping that the Q3 43 will help me with that. Noch einmal wohlgemacht. Tschüß

This is also one of the reasons why I got the Q3 43. Just grab the camera and shoot :) The normal Qs unfortunately didn't work for me because of the 28mm (in real more 26mm), but always loved the idea of a fixed lens camera. Thank you for watching und herzlichen Dank fürs Einschalten :)

So you say this is not a technical video and you are not an expert. Therefore you mix up resolution and field of view, you are surprised that you don’t see a difference of both cameras by comparing images at a size much smaller than your monitor and are mentioning the absence of purple fringing at the focussed areas in the middle of the frame. The most characteristic scene is where you show the vintage lens as a comparison: „I might have missed the focus but you see that its significantly less sharp“. Yes, you won‘t see much of a difference if you are just posting to social media. The whole point of the Leica is a small, not too heavy camera with excellent low light capabilities and plenty of resolution to get more reach without the need to carry and change lenses. In this regard, the Nikon is a complete different concept.

I did some mistakes in this one and am grateful for commetns like your to learn from to improve in the future. I agree the Q line up aimed for a small compact power house, which this Zf is lacking. But I would say if you take something similar like the Sony A7Cr I think most people still wouldn't notice the difference immediately. And with people I mean persons we share our pictures with, not camera nerds :) Thank you for watching!

@@IntrovertAmateur Yes, I can fully agree that there is no „Leica Magic“ in the images. The only magic is the lovely package of simplicity, versatility small size and weight and value. For most people, however, this wouldn‘t be worth 6,000 Euros or more. Regarding your channel I appreciate your humble demeanor but would like to see more seriousness and thoughtfulness. Social media is full of people who don‘t care. I will watch this and therefore leave you a subscription 😉.

Any camera can take an image, and unless you pixel peep as these types of videos do everytime, you have to make your own minds up. Obviously Nikon and Leica fan boys will come down on one side or the other. I shoot with multiple brands and sensor sizes, and camera / lens combinations (including Leica M6, digital and analogue compacts) and I feel that most people fixate too much on equipment and not on the image taking experience. For a lot of people that shoot Leica, it is a combination of build quality, aesthetics, image quality, shooting experience ... As a side note, I own several several Canon bodies and shoot both a Canon and Voightlander 40mm lenses, and choose either based on the experience (Voightlander is fully manual with aperture feedback) and I would never sit and compare the image quality from both, as they both have their merits ... Just get out and shoot.
@IntrovertAmateur2 ай бұрын
100% agree and I basically own different cameras (film and digital) just because of the experience. In general I would say that goes for everything in life. At least I have a lot of different favourite meals and can't eat just one favourite meal straight for one week :D Only for cars I don't have enough budget to afford different multiple cars just for the sake of different driving experience depending on my mood ... but I wish had luxury, but cameras are also fine :D Thank you for your time watching and commenting!

$6900 vs $2200. You pay an extra $4700 for the “experience” of leica q3 😂😂😂. If you zoom in 500% and look at the pixel with a mangifying glass you will see a difference…well thats what Leica users try to say to convince themselves.

It’s more than a side by side, it’s what inspires you to take photos. The Q3 43 does just that, it feels like a jewel in hand…Nikon is just another boring plastic tool. Also outside studio side by side environment and in the real world, the Q3 images pop in an almost 3D way which the Nikon 40 cannot produce.

Muahahahahaha ha! Not a question for my situation. I already have a Blue Nikon Zf, with 2 Carl Zeiss classic lenses (50mm Planar and 28mm Distagon), as well as those Voigtlander SLii-S Nikon F-mount lenses. These are enough for me.
