Good morning! Thanks for this very good series of lectures. They are clear and complete, which is very nice! I have a question about this lecture: how can dislocation anihilation contribute to strain hardening? When dislocations annihilate, doesn't the dislocation density decreases? (which would cause no hardening but a softening?) Thanks in advance!

Hello Vincent Thanks for your comment. Indeed! You're correct. In general, the annihilation of dislocations can lead to a decrease in dislocation density, which may result in strain softening. I used the word "contribute" in a broad sense, meaning that strain softening caused by the annihilation of dislocation use to have a negative impact on strain hardening. You can understand why the word "contribute" was used, because when you consider the annihilation of dislocations in ordered alloys/compounds that can sometimes result in local strengthening in such materials.
