I have got to hand it to you, James. You don’t shirk the hard work. I know you receive a great deal of satisfaction from the results. Your goal is to provide a larger space for your family, and that keeps you going. The kids must be so excited to get on board.

The transformation of the engine bay is amazing and a credit to your hard work and determination to move forward with this project mate. The amount of work you have already done is showing us what you can achieve with determination. We are watching a caterpillar slowly transforming in to a beautiful butterfly, something that you & your family can be happy in and proud of. Well done mate, onwards and upwards :) stay safe.

I really do wish you would give it a rest! I’m absolutely knackered and I’m just watching your Stirling efforts. You’re clearly a man with drive and stamina and watching you crack on every day is immense. Sadly I have nothing to add with regards advice or suggestions as I am incredibly inept but I really do wish you well as you’re doing a fantastic job and you must be very proud😀

I know it's just undercoat, but the red primer really did look spiffy James! The grey is clean and bright though--and it will look very smart with the yellow engine.

What a ghastly job - your arms must be wrecked! I can only imagine that using a power tool to finish it off will be even worse! More dust, heavier, and even less convenient to hold. Worth it in the end though when it’s all blacked and looking great. You’re doing brilliantly James.

Hi James, I'm an old git that hasn't got a narrowboat yet, so when I do I'll do the base plate like yourself, but only if the scouts still do a bob a job week, I'm sure that they'd love hitting the boat with hammers and it'll save my rheumatism, bad and especially my bl/.'@y knees. At a shilling each that'll only be four bob!?! Keep up your BRILL vids coming.

UK terminology question - what's the difference between a tip and a skip? (Pretty sure it's just a "dumpster" in the US)
@richardpos1
@richardpos1 Жыл бұрын
A skip, like the one James has, is basically a large bin where you throw rubbish (US - garbage). A tip is a council run facility where all the rubbish/garbage is taken for recycling or disposal.

90% of narrowboats have un blacked baseplate, no point in doing it really, soon as you are back in the water most of your blacking will be scraped off by the bottom of the cut. 11:26
@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt
@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Жыл бұрын
The advice these days is to 100% black the underneath if possible. When sloe patrol came out the water a year ago most of the blacking on the baseplate was in good shape. There is a massive point in doing it
@rickykent4543
@rickykent4543 Жыл бұрын
Maybe it's an old boater thing, My baseplate is unblacked and when it came out of the water last year , apart from some wildlife growing on it, it was pretty much rust free. No harm in doing it but will be interesting to see how much is still on when it comes out again. Don't forget, Sloe patrol has a v shaped base plate, so won't scrape the bottom as much.
@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt
@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Жыл бұрын
@@rickykent4543 yeah the vegetation growth hides a lot - sloe patrol has bushes growing from her at the moment it seems. I think so cuts are quite shallow and therefore you’re right - some will be scraped off. The GU is quite deep in most parts if people use the locks correctly so I haven’t scraped the bottom much. It’s all about access I guess - if the bottom can be done then it should I reckon But as I write - I’m 20% of the way through the bow and I’m wishing it over already !!!
@rickykent4543
@rickykent4543 Жыл бұрын
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt you can be the test subject, we can look in a couple of years time and see how much is still on, it's not a job I ever want to do but might have a go if enough stays on to give worthwhile protection. Keep going bud, the other 80% will fly by.
