Coach MacPherson I love watching you videos; you break down the game really well and I appreciate that. I especially appreciate that as a person who never played the game as a child and could not learn to appreciate its nuance until I was much older. Since then I taught myself the game by watching videos such as the one you post as well as some football blogs. I wanted you to know I enjoy your videos. Now I do have one question, and I have never, seen a video or a blog explaining this: blocking. I watch many videos that cover Erhardt-Perkins philosophy, Bill Wash's philosophy, and Don Coryell philosophy on offense--I even have some of their playbooks. Aside from the playbooks, very little is discussed about blocking. I just know from my research that most of the offensive plays coaches draw up are using "base blocking rules" but those rules are hardly explained. I have a brother who play LT in a summer league and all he plays is man concepts. Aside from enriching myself, I want to show him a few things to make his team better--such as using trap blocks and cut block. I would appreciate it if you send me an reply or email or make video explaining offensive blocking. I really hope to make some plays for him to help his team win next year.

It kind of comes down to zone schemes, man schemes and gap down schemes. Almost every offense or offensive play will use one of those philosophies.

Hey, it's Brett. Watched all the games this past season and tried breaking them down play by play. Couldn't make it to any games because of college. Best of luck to you and the future of RHS. I learned a lot.

2 Read is played vs. slot sets with a #2 removed receiver. It is a little safer vs. Vertical routes by 1 and 2 than traditional cover 2 but gives you the ability to make it traditional cover 2 with corner flat support vs #2 WR to the Flat. It also makes the safeties play a bigger role in the run game than the corners whisc is huge in high school because the ball is on the hash so much and the corner might be 25 yards away.

Very similar to a base 4-3 in Canadian football, only difference is you get to have a Sam LB in Canadian ball since there's 12 on the field at once. Also the slot safeties are called halfbacks

Coach, I have been watching your videos on you tube and absolutely can't get enough. My question to you is how you wuld align against a double wing team. We see a couple of these teams in our conference. Sometimes the alignment is with a tight end to one side and split receiver to the other.

If it was our base defense we would be quarters to the side we declare strong and lock away. If we were going to see this a bunch and there was motion involved we would line the FS up in the middle and then declare strength to side of motion. True flexbone teams like Georgia Tech are tough to defend once a year

Hey Coach MacPherson, thanks for all of the knowledge sharing you do on here! The 4wr to a side video you did per request helped us tremendously against a 4-2-5 team we faced. For that hats off to you sir, now I have a question that a D Coordinator Colleague of mine left me scratching my head with: How would you defend this? TE_G_C_G_T_T. X. WB. Qb. TB FB Team is run heavy, but basically if the format displays correctly( I'm on my mobile phone). It is strong I, unbalanced with the split end to the unbalance, and the tight end and wing to the weak side. This formation has given him fits in the past with the divorced front concept. As an Offensive coordinator I try to beat the D with numbers by alignment and then assignment. Cut the O in half at the center and count numbers to determine if the D alignment is matched with the O fundamentally. This formation gives 6 1/2 strong 4 1/2 weak if you cut the QB, C, and FB in half. Any insight would help, thanks.

Thanks Coach! These videos are amazing. One question, I'm a u18's coach in Australia, I was wondering if there is any chance of getting a copy of your defensive playbook to see how you go about explaining and illustrating this Defense to your players. Is there anyway I could obtain a copy? Cheers!

Most of our calls are relatively simple. With a base coverage structure that is a check with me system, you can eliminate verbiage. One of our stunts might be Over Exit Base, a blitz might be Over Axe Hot

Hey coach, in your 21 Twins formations, if you have a drag/in route by #2, who would you have account for a swing by #3? I'm assuming a swing by #3 would be wide open, since the Will would take that in route of #2 and FS would be working on #1 with the corner?
