427 Shelby Cobra | Last Minute Colour Change | Bare Metal Repaint | Ep 2

This is the second part of 2 episodes showing the process of a bare metal respray on a Carroll Shelby 427 Cobra. In this episode we get the shell into its final prime, Ady laid down some festive guide coat 🙈 and with a last minute colour change we set about applying 6 coats of PPG direct gloss. After a week of cure time we wet flatted and machine polished the new paint to get that show stopping mirror finish.

I was going to ask if this was a replica but seeing Carrol Shelby's signature answered my question . When l started using 2 pack , Farecla hadn't developed compounds for 2 pack system,and the finest paper was 1200 !!!! ( D.A discs were limited to 40 and 80 grit ) Using a compound for cellulose on 2 pack was very risky and by trial and error l left the paint to harden for 2 days minimum and very gentle pressure on the machine which back then were very heavy and were not variable speed ! and learnt by 'thinning " the compound with water l got a suitable finish. In most instances my gun finish was good enough for sales cars . I was surprised you didn't basecoat /clear . After a less than complmentary response to a comment you made about the Jaguar tolerances , l have to say your work is to the highest standards and in a way you don't boast enough about the skills it takes to attain the finished product . Well done !

Hey Charlie, Dont you lads take any time off?😊I couldn’t see which hardener you used. The mipa 4:1 Kit I get normally comes with H5 xtra fast. But I prefer H25 normal and 30 mins between coats. I used to do 5-10 between but I take much longer now to prevent any solvent trap. What do you use and times between coats? Also It would be nice to see the products listed that you use in the video notes ( like what 2k solid u prefer etc) also it’s good to see how much goes into a proper job as a lot of clients don’t realise the amount of work and especially remasking a good job entails. Black... black?? Every car is sold in black, white and red. Don't paint any special car in those colours. Have you ever seen a green Ferrari? They look absolutely fantastic and they always fetch more money. I know it's not up to you but still, just saying.

I certainly can appreciate the signs at the car shows that ask folks not to touch the car. My God that is excellent work. Aluminum is a pain in the ass but I guess it is pretty sweet to have that piece of jewelry sorted out and looking perfect. Had to edit and come back to comment. Wow, dark and glossy on an aluminum car, now that is confidence. Awesome.
