When I view such videos I sometimes wonder about what it would be like to own such a vessel. Having owned several boats, I know they are always work. Here we have that work being put into preservation of history. Truly a wonderful vessel!

I love the sound old 2 stroke diesels make. It's such a rhythmic and beautiful, mechanical sound. A good friend of mine is the captain of a self-propelled river barge with a Deutz 545 6-cylinder engine with a turbocharger and he let me drive the ship several times and every time it's an incredible experience. I even went through a Danube river lock under his supervision. Where you need to go back and forth between forwards and reverse. The engine is reversible and air started. Sounds amazing when it fires up

Not only an alternator on this old semi-diesel but also power steering. Or any thing else like net winches or flood pumping or any hydraulic power takeoff needed. Would be nice to have a pto shaft for power out that could be limited to say 540 rpm. Looking at this motor turning higher than 1,000 rpm would be pushing the beams to the limit.
