43. Bhagavad Gita I Chapter 4 Verses 1-3 I Swami Sarvapriyananda

Swami Sarvapriyananda teaches Verses 1-3, from the fourth chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. This series of talks unfolds the highest truths of Vedanta through the study of "The song of God".
🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 4, Verse 1:
श्रीभगवानुवाच |
इमं विवस्वते योगं प्रोक्तवानहमव्ययम् |
विवस्वान्मनवे प्राह मनुरिक्ष्वाकवेऽब्रवीत् || 1||
śhrī bhagavān uvācha
imaṁ vivasvate yogaṁ proktavān aham avyayam
vivasvān manave prāha manur ikṣhvākave ’bravīt
🔴 The Blessed Lord said:
This immutable Yoga I imparted to the Sun (Vivasvan) who declared it to Manu. Manu proclaimed it to Iksvaku.
🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 4, Verse 2:
एवं परम्पराप्राप्तमिमं राजर्षयो विदु: |
स कालेनेह महता योगो नष्ट: परन्तप || 2||
evaṁ paramparā-prāptam imaṁ rājarṣhayo viduḥ
sa kāleneha mahatā yogo naṣhṭaḥ parantapa
🔴 Royal sages have known this Yoga thus traditionally transmitted. O valiant prince! Due to lapse of long time, this Yoga has perished in this world.

स एवायं मया तेऽद्य योग: प्रोक्त: पुरातन: |
भक्तोऽसि मे सखा चेति रहस्यं ह्येतदुत्तमम् || 3||
sa evāyaṁ mayā te ’dya yogaḥ proktaḥ purātanaḥ
bhakto ’si me sakhā cheti rahasyaṁ hyetad uttamam
🔴 The same ancient Yoga has now been proclaimed to you by Me; for, you are a devotee and My comrade. Knowledge of this Yoga, indeed, is the highest mystery.

Dear Swami Sarvapriyananda, Gnaana yoga (vedantic meditation) and Dhyana yoga (meditation) are to attain self-realization -- to finally realize that I'm brahman -- the nirguna brahman Above is clearly understood from your talks. But am confused with your other talk, written below 👇 You said bhakti yoga is about emotion -- love expressed onto god. In few talks you said God is saguna brahman, i.e. maya applied to a being to max limits in the universe -- omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, includes past present future of all human and all living and non-living beings, and their 5 perceptions, and thoughts, and everything else. And, you said, eventually saguna brahman is also maya and is unreal, as it is the work of Maya. In such case, when I clearly understand that god is just the upper limit of maya, and not actually real, how can I fool myself to express love towards god during bhakti yoga practice? Instead, isn't it a much better option to practice karma yoga and dhyana yoga along with gnaana yoga? Madhukiran

I had the same question. About fooling myself. But I'm fooling myself on daily basis, every second thinking, I am this body. If I can do that without effort, surely I can learn to do a higher type of fooling a before realising Nirguna Brahman

@@zotharr thanks for writing. I learned quite a bit since that old post. Please respond to this… I am able to very clearly notice that the address of “I” is Brahman and madhu (my name) is some entity representing this body and mind and intellect and memory. I the Brahman is detached from everything Madhu represents This mind has blocked me the Brahman due to slavery to non stop senses object experiences and thinking. This mind’s aim is to do meditation pranayama etc and unblock me the Brahman so to return to the aboriginal state where I the Brahman provides everything minds desires when mind is silent and always fills this system with bliss But the millions of tendencies in this unconscious memory are disturbing this minds all the time. So the only way for the mind to quickly unblock me the Brahman is to pray to God and take his help This is the importance of God to the mind prior to enlightenment. Without God’s grace no quick progress is feasible either in unblocking me the Brahman or in materialistic pursuits This is what I understood from Advaita Vedanta teachings. I trust this logic and do pray very regularly to God with 100% respect and trust and love and hope When This mind unblocks me the Brahman, henceforth I the Brahman will totally take care of this system all the time, which was the state of this mind in the very first human incarnation
