It's a dull raining Sunday (just for a change) and so I thought I'd put together a video answering some of the questions I've had about Traction Engines.

We may not get to all of them, but certainly expect to be at most if not all of the above.

Great video Dan! Interesting to have a look at Merthyr Tydfil coal mine and you explained well the problem the steam preservation movement has with the supply of it You have a great talent as on orator and are east to listen to!👍

Great video, very informative. Trying to support my local shows but finding a lot have a waiting list to get in with a miniature, about 4 years for my closest one.

Yeah. That's an issue. Some rallies are dead men's shoes. We go all over for rallies.

​@@SteamOTRI'm at Statfold in a couple of weeks, but Echills wood about 10 miles down the road from Stafold is on the same weekend, would help if organisers worked together to avoid local date clashes.

We use Raw Materials Limited for coal. It comes from South Africa. The price isn't too bad and it burns well with a few traces of Sulphur in it. However, the lumps are usually cobble sized so it might be too large for your use

Yeah, decent price, bu they only do ton which I would struggle with. Can't even get a pallet to my place.

B H Leake - The product is great, but it is slow. 6-8 weeks, but mine were exactly 8 weeks. You're in the right ballpark cost wise.

Wildfire coal damn near destroyed our firebars on our 8nhp wallis (we exclusively road the engine) reasonable success with Newburn but on polish now. Tried Colombian, very dirty...never been as sooty on an engine 😂

I found Polish burnt very hot. Needed less on, but more often.

Coal legislation is ridiculous, we need to ban far more things before coal is banned.

It's bizzare, but we have to accept that it's happening and find a way forward.

The amount of coal burnt by steam enthusiasts is tiny compared to a power station or even a steelworks. Its such a niche hobby.

Absolutely, but I think we still need to be seen to be doing our bit. Can't just ignore it and hope it goes away, as it won't!

@@SteamOTR I'd think the other way: when the restrictions on high power incandescent lightbulbs were announced the theatre industry campaigned for exemptions, I would think heritage steam could push for a similar exemption in the event of a coal ban.
