Fun fact about the O-I. One of the smaller turrets was equipped with a flamethrower and the second prototype was outfitted with a ramp in the rear to fire rockets similar to the Sherman Calliope and the Katyusa. The O-I was designed to be an all purpose tank.

In world of tanks i made a lot of people cry using this behemoth. I even won 1v9 game with it (considering its a 15v15 game). The issue with it is it's ineffective mobility, which ultimately failed the O-I project during that time

@@ivank1029 Fair, but if you consider that it was meant to be a "mobile fortress" or a "self-propelled bunker", then - just like the Maus - it makes a whole lot more sense. Still not a LOT of sense if you consider the use of artillery, fighter-bombers etc. against them at a time when the own air force is pretty much reduced to nothing, but still, not just COMPLETE insanity.

@@DGARedRaven I agree, bombers or strike aircrafts with rockets and bombs would devastate it due to it's huge size and low mobility. On top of it it's impossible to hide it or camouflage it. However, the idea of creating this tank was as coastal defender, which means it will be defended by coastal batteries, bunkers, AAA and infantry, so planes and naval forces will be ineffective. As i said earlier in my previous comment, its low mobility ruined that project with much potential, even though having 2x 750 hp engines

@@smollphotographer7699 I was able to locate a 3D Printed 1/35th scale kit online in the $80.00 range, (as well as a few in 1/76th and 1/72nd scale more reasonably priced.) But I think the Bob Semple tank deserves a traditional (and much less expensive) injection molded version. I'm sure it would sell well.

Just a correction, the K-Wagen was indeed a plan of imperial Germany however in 1940 there was no Imperial Army in existing for over 20 years. The German Empire ended in 1918

All of these ideas could be used in science fiction movies for one reason or another. Example: the tsar tank. Deadliest reverse tricycle I've ever seen. Then there's the ratte tank and it's bigger (somehow just as interesting) brother. The ratte tank looks like the turret came off the Bismarck. I think that was actually the plan too, but I don't know exact details. with today's knowledge of powerplants, and the size of these, if someone built even one of these, it would be interesting and terrifying at the same time.

These designs are technically not necessary today, but I still think that they could have some use, even if they were green screened into a movie (kinda like in captain America)

The Bob Semple was actually the only design all powers of the world at the time, even on both sides of WW2, declared never to be built, due to the sheer power a single country would have, wielding the tank. It was deemed too dangerous, and too powerful.

6:30 There were two SMKs built, both unique. One was almost immediately destroyed, but the other survived its first battle badly damaged. After repairs and some minor modifications, it was fielded again, and was more successful, but it did eventually get destroyed for good. The model you're using is the more successful one, I believe. Edit: 8:10 You should really mention that the two prototypes were different (only one had the double tracks) and that the double track version was also called T95.

correction, not two SMK tanks were created, but one, another tank of a similar design was called the T 100, both tanks took part in the winter war where they were destroyed. despite the fact that they both showed good performance indicators, the multi-tower layout was then accepted as outdated and ineffective, in addition, kv 1 tanks appeared with more powerful armor, were faster and more maneuverable, as well as cheaper and more effective

I watched an entire video focused just on the SMK at one point that detailed out how one was deemed unrepairable after its very first engagement. The final decision was between the T-100 and the SMK that survived, and the T-100 was the design they went with.

Hi Viz. I have watched many of your videos, but I haven't watched all of them yet, so maybe this vehicle was already featured in one of your videos. I found something that you could feature in a 2nd part for this Prototype's video. This vehicle was envisioned by an Austro-Hungarian called Günther Burstyn. He designed a War Machine that highly resembles a Tank, closer to a Modern Tank, as it even features a rotating turret on the top. It was called the "Burstyn Motorgeschütz", the vehicle predates even Tank concepts such a Little Willie. You can find more information about it on the Tank Encyclopedia entry about it. I feel it could fit perfectly in one of these videos.

might i suggest that you give a heads up as to which ton you are using for the tanks. for example you have the weight of the T28 super heavy tank as 86 tons, but americans weighed their tanks in "short tons" (1 ton equaling 2,000 pounds) this made the T28 a 95 ton machine.

@@signolias100 I know about the T95 Medium, but I made the assumption because most of the time, numbered vehicles tend to be named after their (estimated but not actual) weight, like the E-Series of tanks. The British occasionally did the same thing with the early Vickers tanks. Knowing America the designation was like intentionally made T95 originally to resemble its weight (we're not very creative with names, British came up with most of the more famous names for our tanks during the War). It was changed to Super Heavy Tank T28 because American doctrine dictated that GMCs were to be lightly armored and mobile (which the T28/95 was not)

Pretty much the only logical explanation for this jump in number would be its weight, and after it lost its GMC designation it would make sense to revert the name to the prototype number that hadn't been used yet, 28.

Outstanding video. I realize there are numerous prototypes of tanks throughout history; way too many to include them all in your wonderful collection featured here in this video. A couple that would have been great to have included were the German Panzer E-100 super heavy tank (from the proposed e-series program), and the German Panzer VII Lowe heavy tank. The hull and chassis of the E-100 prototype were partially completed before the collapse of Nazi Germany. The Panzer VII Lowe never got any farther than the blueprint stage. This latter tank, in my opinion, was a visual engineering and design beauty; notwithstanding it would have been a product of an evil vicious regime and good riddance to it for sure. 🎉✨🇺🇸🇬🇧🇦🇺🇳🇿🇨🇦🇫🇷🇳🇱✨💪🫡❕

Realistically, the bob semple tank would make a good anti riot tank, or anti infantry/under armourned things. Storming houses, or thin walls would be in range. Maybe distressing tanketts or make a good anti-air. Overall, small but somewhat major purposes.

The "Monster" seems to have been a "concept" that never made it past fantasy - like the "Panzer IX" and "Panzer X" shown It DOES seem to have adopted some of it's design concept facts from the Landkruiser, a REAL design concept to make a Gustav/Dora rail gun into a mobile tracked vehicle - with about the stated mass, but looked MUCH different in it's concept. Also, there are at least a couple vehicles in the video that were NOT really tanks - the T28/T95 was NAMED one, but it was really an assault gun with HEAVY Armor, as an example.
