Jumped to the 'making successful tutorials' part for a quick watch coz I was really interested in that. Loved the point by polyfjord that if the tutorial makes the user drop everything else and inspires them to startup blender and start making something, i think the tutorial maker has really done their job. Loved the point by Andrew on how KZbin is trying to understand the difference between a random silly like on a funny video and a like you put on a video that inspired you to do some positive. I feel like I'm viewing the KZbin algorithm in a completely different light now. And finally, I'd love to add some of my own experience into this conversation. One of them specifically with blender users. Coz I did a poll on my channel and asked PPL what turns you off from a tutorial and the majority of PPL voted on 'if there's nothing new to learn in the video', they click away. Or even if they get a whiff in the first few seconds that this video doesn't pertain to their current expertise level, they're immediately turned off and eventually thus click away. I think that's kinda interesting. The blender space has grown so much on KZbin that 'learning something new from every video they watch has become ppls new standard for staying on on a tutorial. And by new i don't mean something absolutely new. It could even be a thing they've heard a thousand times but maybe this time, the creator explained it in a simple way that they could really clock unlike before. That's my two cents on the topic. Haven't watched the whole thing yet, but hyped for the rest of the conversation.

This was an excellent conversation. I feel the same about geometry nodes, but i'm a blender rookie. Loved the insight and transparent thoughts.

Another great example of creating content for yourself is Star Wars. I heard in some biographies and documentaries that when creating that, Lucas was the only one interested. He had trouble getting funding.

Other people said the same already. It was nice to hear these seasoned people talking about GN like an obstacle. I’m using them more as needed and stopped trying to brute force learn how it all works. So far that’s made for less frustration. If anyone wants a vetted recommendation from a stranger - The only geoNodes tutorial I’ve done where I felt in control and had positive momentum afterwards has been the Joey Carlino curves for geometry nodes video. No one asked, but I wanted to share what I had some success with.

Oh man... thank you for your open words regarding geometry nodes 🤣honestly... for me as a beginner there are so many topics regarding 3D which make me feel dump and lost. Sculpting/modelling, texturing, lighting, rendering and ALL of this stuff: all the time I soon reach my limitations and start to bang my head against the wall because things are not working as I want. But then there is this magic world of geometry nodes and I feel completely lost. So thank you... it's good to hear that even two 3D nerds like you both are still facing these feelings. At least it seems to be one very important skill for an evolving 3D artist to be able to manage frustration when it comes to dealing with the software and ones own limitations 🤣🤣

The reason why the tutorial got so viral because 'Spider Man: No Way Home' was released prier month and it perfectly depicted Dr. Octopus due to the nostalgia of the actors and characters returning to MCU it was a huge buzz on social media for a long time. I saw the tutorial as it was released and even commented to change the title to 'Dr. Octopus Tutorial' but it got viral regardless.

that's a cool talk. Especially the time you talk about motivations to make those tutorial videos. Also just wanted to mention I made the shining elevator some 3 years ago. I'd probably get an even better render today, but can't be bothered, but can now expect view to drop once everyone makes that scene :)

It's a bit weird to hear such incredibly advanced Blender users struggle with Geometry nodes. It's encouraging and at the same time the opposite. I'm coming from 2D corporate graphic design and been trying to get more and more into motion and Blender. That alone in itself is a crazy steep learning curve. But Geometry Nodes besides scattering just isn't getting processed by my brain. I understand the process and concepts while watching someone do the BASIC tutorials but there's no way I could pull that stuff off on my own.

Part way thru the podcast, but commenting before I forget. I think one thing that could help Geonodes is giving them names that are more understandable. My 2 cents.

36:00 That's exactly how I feel about Geometry nodes, I couldn't put my finger until now, made it make sense 😅. I tried Houdini a few years back and I enjoyed the process of making stuff but soon it was unintuitive that I dropped it completely, was excited for geometry nodes too but I think I'll only ever tackle it if i really have to in a project, otherwise I'm kinda treating it like it's a whole another software 😂

Camera Frame Rates: I'm probably not going to get this 100% correct. Different frame rates originally came from the electricity network 60htz is American 50htz British Empire and Japan. Old film cameras would have pushed film through the camera at different speeds based on the amount of power. When Americans talk about 24 frames per second, it's really 23.976 and 30 fps is 29.97. British Empire and Japan are 25.00 fps. There is also Film is 24.00 fps. It’s really important to film in the correct frame rate, because American and British frames rates don’t divide cleanly, you’ll end up with left over numbers, that’s why you will get jumps in frames or weird artifacts.
