Today is my birthday. I’ve been so unhappy w my cells and blooms. I’m thinking why am I having so much trouble??? I’m accomplished at resin so thought cells would not be too much of a challenge. Wrong! You’ve given me a gift today and I’m so greatful. Thanks for the tutorial and I’m gonna try this today to give myself a fun gift.

Happy Birthday, Janice! I hope you do try this simple bloom recipe and just remember that Amsterdam brand paints cell easily when mixed with Floetrol only- about 1 part paint to 3-4 parts Floetrol. I always use the Amsterdam paints as my cell activator and haven't been disappointed! Hope you have a wonderful day of painting!!! ❤️🙏❤️

Trish Taylor Just to help clarify & elaborate on the part about “when you request a color to be mixed at places like home depot or lowe’s”...tintable house paint usually comes in 3 different tones A, B, C or 1, 2, 3...the difference is A/1 is white & used just as is or for tinting to light color values, B/2 is a medium tone (off white) & is used for tinting to medium color values, & C/3 is a deep tone (more cream colored) & is used for tinting to dark color values. You will see right on the cans an “A” (or level 1) Base, or “B” & so on. The paint companies do this because the tone of the base will impact the saturation of the color you tint it to...so the experts tinting your paint for you wouldn’t want to use a white (level A or 1) base to tint to a color like dark purple or charcoal grey, they would need a level C (or 3) because they wouldn’t get the true tone you’re looking for using the lighter color of base. 😉

Thank you so much for simplifying the bloom technique. I figured out most of it the hard way, and have finally been successful and happy with my results. Now when I see the simple version that you display, it's just a confirmation that I'm on the right track. How cool is that? I'm not opposed to paying for a class, and have done so but after seeing your video for mixing, I realize that many other artists tend to convolute the lesson they're trying to convey, causing the listener to get confused about brands, and types way too easily. Also - to those out there that don't know, almost ANY acrylic can be used with this - even old paints you thought of throwing out. You're a breath of fresh air. Thanks for sharing.

Susan...As an old artist I have a suggestion that has helped me over the years. Get a small 12” X 12” canvas. Paint it with a white or black base paint. Add 3 colors to the center of the canvas. Doesn’t matter what colors. You are just “playing”. No pressures. Grab your blow dryer and have fun. Don’t like it when finished? Scrape it off and do another. Remember you’re having fun, not painting a masterpiece. With love, Cynthia Dee

I can't get Valspar here, but Behr Premium Plus Paint & Primer satin enamel deep base from Home Depot is obviously comparable based on my results. I so appreciate artists like yourself who share of your experience and knowledge. Happy pouring!

Why is it that every single bloom I've seen has house paint on it and no Floetrol used at all? This was successful yet you followed none of those rules that I believed to be part of the Shellee art technique. Ok, so now I am totally confused. It was a pretty painting and you also used North American Floetrol. You are such a rule breaker!!!!!

Very pretty Came to your channel today by recommendation from a post. Thank you so much for this video, it's so great and using US floetrol as a CA is priceless, I knew there was a way without using Aussie (some can't afford that when just starting out) a few start using it and it explodes like that's the only thing that will give cells, I knew there had to be a way before aussie was so pushed, (not saying bad about anything or anyone using it) but for beginners like me, I needed this option. Sorry for the lengthy post. Thank you so much again, look forward to watching more of your work 🙂

I am sorry I may be missing this, but what do you use to make your pillow base? Do you ever buy the paint thats in the color you want, say like a black base, or do you always mix it to get it yourself? Is it a different mixture, then what you use to make your design colors? I can tell you use the Amsterdam black, and only floetrol. For the cell activators. I tried mixing, like you did with the paint and varnish mixture, but all I got was a mess. I think my problem is in how I mixed my pillow base. It got really clumpy. Help me. You are my favorite.... thank you. Bless you.
@HarmonyHouseArt
@HarmonyHouseArt 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Elena! I don't like the house paints for base...I know you can buy them in different colors and lots of people use them straight from the can. I prefer to mix my own and I mix them exactly as I mix the colors but typically use more Floetrol so I can spread them around easily. If you're struggling with your base, you might try house paint from the can for your pillow. Just be careful using a torch to pop bubbles because it will leave a weird skin on the paint.

@@HarmonyHouseArt Thats so helpful. I was just outside trying to mix paints, and I will consider your thoughts to use more Floetrol. You are the best! Thanks so much, for being kind enough to answer.
