Purple Crystal Swords have always been decent weapons, the problem is that if it's of a rarity any lower than that it sucks ass because the damage plummets since it does split physical and magic, it gets double the benefit of having a higher rarity than other weapons, if going from white to green gave a weapon +2 attack, a Crystal Sword gets +2 physical and +2 magic.

The game really wouldn't work without it. Spacing and map knowledge are where the real skill expression is. If they wanted to take the chasing out, they would need to implement some kind of melee system akin to mount and blade warband or chiv or something. As the game is, once two people are in melee range, it is just a stat check besides some basic movement and aim. I'm not saying the game isn't skill based, just that the skill is not in just melee trading.

@@gregortheoverlander4122 Agreed. But even still, getting doors slammed in your face repeatedly is annoying as hell. I think DaD shines in melee footsies; finding that perfect spacing to dodge the enemy swing and then close in to connect with your own. Ranged dmg, movespeed, and healing options make those occurrences rare tho. its much more effective to kite with range or slam into your opponent with melee for the stat check and then heal up. Admittedly, this comes from a solo mindset. duos and trios open the game up to more interesting interactions. Maybe the door slamming could be made better by changing the animation so its easier to follow someone through if youre close enough. I much prefer the counter play that emerges with swapping from melee to range and vice versa mid-chase like at 6:18
