That thing MOVES. It's kind of a special treat when you come across a 400+HP Speed3. Typically, most people do basic bolt-ons and get around 300-330HP. But to see one that's been fully built and running on E85 isn't something you see often.
@Revitalyzed9 жыл бұрын
***** I followed a guy on Instagram before he deleted his account and he had, probably around the same HP as this one, a 2nd gen Speed3 with slicks and ran 11 seconds 1/4 mile. I'd imagine this guy's Speed3 would run high 11's or low 12's.

DZEMAG You're willing to dump 45k into your car?
@DZEMAG9 жыл бұрын
***** No, but I would do for the sticker price on the RS. Personally, I am fine with the power the K04 produces. I was only thinking of the bolt-on power increases to about 330hp max. Reason this guy spent $45k is due to having to constantly rebuild because of the high power output and probably pushes his car hard regularly.
@JoshuaC0rbit9 жыл бұрын
***** that was probably repairs...they aren't known for their reliability. You don't meet a lot of repeat buyers.

DZEMAG This is NOT a well modded car lol. For 420WHP, it has a stock clutch, stock brakes, stock wheel/ tire width, stock catback, and a STOCK INTERCOOLER. Wat. Undoubtably fun to drive, but not necessarily a nicely modded car.
@padsalltheway9 жыл бұрын
Caleb Marshall Thanks for your comment, but if you check out my wheel well page, you will see all the other mods that are on my car that weren't mentioned in the review. I am running a larger top mount intercooler which is covered by the oem engine cover and as far as the suspension and handling goes, I am running Ksport coilovers as well as BFG KDW tires that are wider than stock. And for the catback, there aren't any real hp gains to be made with an after market system besides being overly loud.

@GE3KSPDMOTORSPORTS9 жыл бұрын
It doesn't torque steer as much because of the power band. The 3076 shines up top, where you don't typically get torque steer. Whereas, the Speed in the video before had a BNR, which has a lot more torque down low in the RPM range - more torque steer.

I am planning to make some more modifications to it over the next couple of months. Seeing your insight to each and every car you review makes my choice with modifying my car easier. I want my car to have balance with enough power to make it move. I would like to see a review on the Mazda Speed 6 with some mods. I know that you are a fan of the car, any ways keep up the reviews. mazda has really come into its own since the partnership with Ford ended. All of their cars since 2014 and later are very refined with great interiors and great handling. the only thing they're missing is a car that makes big power. They have an RX concept but who knows if that will ever make production. I personally am hoping for a next gen speed3 using the engine from the new CX-9. So much potential in that engine especially with the great chassis of the 3rd gen Mazda 3. The new speed3 can potentially obliterate Ford focus ST/RS, WRX/STI, GTI/R, etc.

Plus, you left out 3.5 bar map sensor, EBCS, TIP and intake, clutch kit, built motor.... A ms3 could reliably make closer to 350whp fully bolted with a good tune, but a stock block wouldn't last being daily driven with the type of power this guy's car is making. Realistically your build list should look like: -Acessport $650 -HPFP $350 -TIP and intake EBAY $100 -EBAY DP, 3 inch straight pipe $400 -CXracing FMIC $400 -3.5 bar map sensor $85 -Grimmspeed EBCS $125 -CS turbo $1100 -Professional tune $500

There aren't too many mods needed for this car to be amazing. You need larger injectors and better spark plugs for a turbo upgrade, like the 3071r. It would be wise to have a front mounted intercooler, and aem intake, and 3in full exhaust system. Also, a good power tune is advised. In all of that, your 0-60 should be like 4 seconds flat.

I know it's not readily available to you, but other than that, Ethanol is great. It's cheap race gas and cars gobble the shit out of it. We have reliable (70+) E at most pumps, and even though you get less mpgs, the price decrease actually makes it a bit more economical depending on price. Corn juice and injectors/tune was good for 70awhp on the LGT

2009 Mazdaspeed3 owner here. It seems like finding a stock Speed3 in my area(Socal near Cobb Tuning) is like looking for a unicorn. So far I have got 62,000 miles of smiles with no issues. Just regular maintenance, gas and lots of summer tires. The sleeper look is a big plus since it is my DD. And it is all stock and staying that way. The 2017 awd Mazdaspeed3 is tempting though...

+1400VID are they reliable? thinking of getting one because it has more room for the dog lol
@1400VID9 жыл бұрын
Justin Blanco So far, the car has no major issues. There are 3 minor things like creaky dashboard trim pieces, a burn fuse for the power outlet, and a slight gear whine when in 5th gear. A co-worker has a 2008 MS3 with 270,000 miles on it so far. The 2008/2009 models in stock form are relatively trouble free.
@VAspeed38 жыл бұрын
+Justin Blanco My '07 MS3 has been very reliable for 280,000 miles. Engine is all stock, but I beefed up the suspension damping to make it handle better. Although plenty will disagree, I don't really think an MS3 needs more power than stock or would handle it very well.
@1400VID8 жыл бұрын
VAspeed3 Good to hear your MS3 has that many trouble free miles. It seems they are really reliable if left in stock form. But I'm not sure why the same engine in the CX7 is having so many issues. Maybe it was detuned improperly for 87 octane or the auto transmission setup?

Love these One Takes. This is a good example of the potential the MS3 platform has. Please get a new shift knob though haha! Also no FMIC?!

I passed up a 2008 100% stock very good condition one owner speed3. When I was 18. It only had 66k miles on it and the owner wanted 8.5k. Every time I see a speed3 I think back to that and how much I regret not buying it

I call BS on 420whp. It's also funny how the title says 450 and the description says 420. As an owner of a 380whp Speed 3 who has tuned 10 or so of these cars, I know them very well. Even with E85 to push back the KR threshold, it is IMPOSSIBLE to put down 420whp on stock injectors. Period. We have several local fully-bolted Speeds on GTX3076s that ran out of injector headroom a 370-380whp. This is the consistent limit that is extremely well-known and seen with this platform. Look on MSF for tons of data on this, if you want. This has been confirmed by several top-name pro tuners on the Speed platform, like Lex from Stratified and Justin from FREEKTUNE. Without supplemental fueling, we run out of fuel at 370-380whp, regardless of turbo. Air + fuel = power. If you want >380whp, you need more fuel, even with the most efficient setup/super-high flowing turbo. >380whp requires >380whp worth of fuel, there's no way around it. We need methanol or supplemental PI at that point. Dynojet graphs or I call serious BS, man. I'll bet he's quoting either 1) VDyno numbers with the very forgiving Dynojet correction factor (1.09), 2) quoting brake horsepower (at the crank) rather than wheel horsepower, or 3) the most likely, just simply inflating his numbers. Many people do it, LOL. The thing of it is that E85 requires 30% more fueling volume when you run it straight. Speed guys mix it though, and we get the best balance of performance/injector headroom at about 25-30% ethanol content. But even at that level, it easy eats up 10-15% of our injector headroom due to it's lower energy potential as a fuel. This guy is simply not being honest...
@padsalltheway9 жыл бұрын
+Zack Richmond Suit you your self. I've had to car dynod at at 2 different dynojets and both times it made around the same power. VDyno with a 1.01 correction factor is also showing around the same number. My injectors are currently at 108% though so I have no head room. And as far as the 450hp in the description, That is an error on Matts side. I told him that the Car made 420whp. If you were to factor in a drive chain loss of 15% which is low, that would mean that my car is making around 480hp at the crank
@numinous47899 жыл бұрын
padsalltheway Must be corrected SAE numbers. You outta be really careful running over 100 IDC. You're actually injecting during the exhaust cycle at that point. That's really dangerous. I'm surprised you're not getting spark blowout at that level. Was it an actual Dynojet? Or a Dynapak? Some dynos are much "easier" than others. Regardless, I wouldn't be running that tune long-term. A tune that consistently hits >100 IDC is just asking for trouble...

370 hp with tune , exhaust system and e85 . I agree something else has been done to it
@numinous47899 жыл бұрын
Ben Chesterman I can agree with 370 too, so long as he's upgraded turbo. K04s (stock turbo) will only support 330 or so tops. I made 385whp being fully bolted, ethanol tuned, BNR S3 turbo, all the bells/whistles/supporting mods without supplemental fueling. I just recently added water/methanol injection to my car, but I didn't tune it for any more power regardless of the fact that I now have extra fueling headroom because stock rods and stock clutch are also not happy north of 380wtq or so. If you have a turbo big enough, and the extra fueling that is NECESSARY (without which it is LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE to make >385-390whp - can't argue with physics), there's still the matter of the clutch and the rods too. My BS meter went off the charts when this dude started talking about his power level because I know MS3s like the back of my hand. I've tuned them too...
@numinous47898 жыл бұрын
Too bad Matt isn't here in Texas (or me being in Cali). He could drive my E30/methanol injected Speed with a BNR S3. Since the standard Mazdaspeed convention of talking about whp/wtq has been broken here, I put down ~440/440 at the crank. It'd be a nice comparison, and my longer Genpu (2nd gen) gears would help enjoy all that extra power... :D

Torque steering has to do with the early boost, since he swapped it with a larger turbo, the lag evens out the torque.

stock wheels, what size tire on the 7" width? the last one had wider aftermarket wheels which probably contributed to the torque steer with less positive offset.
