Watching Luka was the most fun I had as a basketball fan, and thinking he was gonna be Dirk's successor had me optimistic for the future. I don’t think a player the Mavs wanted to target to pair with Kyrie and still be in the mentality of win now while shifting their identity from Luka is a better fit or more elite than AD. Embid arguably but AD is more available and fits beside their bigs. The only other elite players to fit beside Kyrie was maybe KD, Ant, or Kawhi ? I think Nico picked the best target for his criteria just his value as a return is crazy low for the second best player in the league

If there’s no argument for AD ever being top 5, yall got to keep that same energy for Joel Embiid. Embiid was put in the top 5 but he’s been a consistent playoff dropper. Personally, I never put Embiid as a top 5 player. AD has been a playoff raiser for most of his career, the only time AD was inconsistent in the playoffs was in 2023 but you can’t say the same thing about Embiid. If AD is overrated, then Embiid is overrated. AD is more underrated than overrated. There’s too much BS narratives about AD like him being injury prone but he’s been healthy the last 2 seasons and there’s narratives that AD can’t be a #1 guy but he puts up #1 production in the RS & PS before
