We shoot 2 days a week. Seem like a cool job? It is, but has its drawbacks. I am 6’5” and 300lbs. You stays loose shooting guns like this, let them move you. Watch it rock me on my heels.

Son, you're working that action like a poes! The empties almost don't eject. After each round, WORK THAT ACTION SOLIDLY - as it's meant to be - in the heat of the moment with an angry DG about 15yds in front of you!! Anything less, and it's just a target rifle or a safe queen!!

To tell the truth, I like it. I wonder if rebarreling a Winchester 70 in .375 H&H is possible. Thanks for taking the time to video this.

Depends on the bolt face.

Why would anyone want to subject themselves to that level of recoil? The problems with the 458 Win were solved 50 yrs. ago., and it was made to dupilicate the 450 Nitro express shooting a 500g bullet. There was also the 450-400 which was a favorite or old time hunters due to less recoil, more accuracy and faster follow up shots, Nowadays Federal loads a 400g trophy bonded bearclaw 100 fps faster than that old 450-400 load; so I ask; what in hell does anyone want the Lott for? That old 450-400 Nitro express load was considered quite adequate for anything; and the 458 win with that 400 g bullet is even better.. JMHO.

The Lott can do a lot more than the 458 Win even though it's running at a lot lower pressures, I would much rather prefer a hundred or more fps faster at the cost of more felt recoil. Asking why someone would use a 458 Lott and not a 458 Winchester is like asking why someone would want to use a 500 NE or a 505 Gibbs etc., they want as much power as they can get!

To be honest I would prefer a Lott over Winchester any day. The Lott is a lot better in my opinion since it achieves higher muzzle velocity at lower pressures. Edit: Also the 458 Win can be fired out of a 458 Lott rifle, also making the Lott a better chambering

With DGS cartridges too much mv can actually be detrimental. The 458 lott should be matched with a heavier bullet than what the 458wm would normally be loaded with to moderate mv. MV means nothing without discussing bullet construction. Typically, that's 400gr and 450grs which doesn't seem like much but it's a ubiquitous combination among PH's in SA, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Tanzania.

Did you also know that if you use a 458WM in a 375 H&H length magazine you can outperform the Lott? I wonder if OP reconfigured the magazine geometry when converting to the Lott because the first shot bolt ejection looked like a hangup.

Damn, my shoulder hurts just looking at this video, LOL. I think I’ll stick with my 375H&H.

What's the ballistic difference in terms of velocity between the 458 win and a 458 Lott shooting 500 grain bullets?
@zajagter28883 жыл бұрын
About a 100 or more fps difference (458 lott being faster) We have our Lott loaded at about 2300 fps I believe. But with a lot of Hornady 458 win loads it's about 2100 fps

@@zajagter2888 that’s double the weight plus a couple hundred feet per second compared to a 4570. That’s terrifying and I want one badly. To put that in perspective my current favoriteHunting rifle for the thick timber I’m hunting is a 35 Remington pushing a 200 grain bullet at only 2200 ft./s and I have yet to have a hog or a white tail take a step after getting hit by it. A 500 grain pill moving that fast it’s just mind boggling to me and so impressive. Not that I’ll ever truly need one but I want a Safari cartridge 375 H&H/Ruger and up At least one for the collection.

@@zajagter2888 i’m a little restricted by my budget. Once the kids get a little older to loosen up but as of now $1200 range. I found a model 70 in a 375 H&H at my local gun store for 975And opted to buy one more high capacity semi auto because of the political climate and now I’m wishing I would’ve bought the H&H. Would absolutely love a side beside Center fire but way beyond my budget for at least 10 years. Have four little ones in private school and sports. What’s left goes to hunting trips and I have beyond enough firepower in my arsenal to handle anything in North America. But once my kids are grown and this will be my present to myself

You can load better bullets in the 458 Lott, it's offers better options than the 458wm.
@chilesmartialarts75144 ай бұрын
@Spruce-Bug that is simply untrue. Maybe 50 years ago. The lott operates at a much greater pressure to obtain miniscule velocity increase. The requirement of a long expensive action, higher pressure, heavier gun and recoil make the lott a very poor "upgrade".
