Worst part about this song? At the end of the song Hamilton leads Eliza towards the audience, and she looks up and gasps. It's implied that she could see the audience, and that she did it. Her hard work wasn't for nothing. Hamilton's story got told, and that is literally either the saddest thing I've ever seen or singularly the best.

The gasp is to symbolize Eliza's last breath as she can see her family on the other side. She literally asks who will tell her story before she takes her last breath and joins her loved ones.

Eliza gasps at the end of this song, implying she saw the audience, which makes me think; Alexander wrote financial systems and brought money to America, but Eliza told his story and saved hundreds of cchildrens' lives. Again, making me think: Was the name Broadway show named after Alexander, or was "Hamilton" for Eliza to tell the story of how she saved lives and restored a huge portion of American history? Was "Hamilton" named after Alexander Hamilton, or Eliza Hamilton?

In the category "sad life", today I learnt all of Jefferson's children except his eldest daughter died before him, and after a long time spent taking care of his wife, she died the year she gave birth to the last child, who died too, he promised he would never take a wife again. Oh, and his father died when he was fourteen. Please, tell me all American Founding Fathers doesn't have this kind of stories or imma jump off a bridge screaming at how life is unfair. By the way I'm not American (forgive my english haha) so I didn't knew that much about American History before I started listening to Hamilton...

Head-Canon: This song takes place either a moment before or after Eliza dies. She finds Alexander and shows him what she did when she was still alive. She tells him about how she and Angelica told his story. She tells how she helped to tell Washington’s story with the monument. She tells the stories of many more and does what she can. She starts an orphanage, she told about how they all reminded her about Alexander. She says “I can’t wait to see you again, it’s only a matter of time.” This either implicates she is searching for Alexander as a ghost or she is about to die. She wonders if she did enough for him and also to help people remember her long after she dies.
@margaretconnor5623 Жыл бұрын
I mean that kind of what it is in the musical. She's singing it and at the very end, she dies and see her husband. Alexander takes her hand and leads her to the front of the stage where she sees...us. The audience. She sees that their story was told to the world and she gasps.

Daaaaamn. Hear all the songs in order now and let me tell you... Never has just listening to music made me bawl my eyes out quite like this. The last two songs recuded me to a blubbering mess. God damn it... Who lives, who dies, who tells your story. Hamilton died much too early but was he ever lucky to have Lin Manuel Miranda tell his story - now his legacy truly lives on.
@moonflame11708 жыл бұрын
And all of us are lucky to be alive to see it happen. Well, maybe not in person (those tickets are elusive, expensive little shits), but you know what I mean. Forever grateful to Lin-Manuel for existing, same as you.
@singenstattatmen50968 жыл бұрын
Moon Flame I can only agree wholeheartedly. I do wish though that one day, I can be in the room where it happens... That's like a whole bucket list right there, just seeing Hamilton live, and if Lin's actually in it I could really die happy. I'm on the wrong continent though - maybe next year in London... One can hope!
@moonflame11708 жыл бұрын
SingenStatt Atmen Lin's performance in Hamilton was just impeccable, I've heard. It's kinda sad that even if the musical decides to go on an international tour and we non-american fans get to see it, he won't be in it... but yes, one can hope!
@singenstattatmen50968 жыл бұрын
Moon Flame Yeah I mean from the soundtrak his voice is just so raw and special and full of emotion, it really does stand out and of course the role will always be played by talented people, but I don't think anyone will ever be able to hold a candle to Lin as Hamilton, he wrote the damn thing for God's sake! But yeah, we never know if or where he will pick the role back up, I fell like Hamilton is going to be on stage for a really long time to come (it better be!) so who knows. Let's hope and dream. But Lin or no Lin (although seeing Lin as Ham would probably make me faint with happiness and honour), once those tickets for London become available I'm gonna do everything to get one.

1:17 (and the end) is the bit where it makes me cry the most. Because of how much work Eliza has done for everyone. She told Laurens', Mulligan's and Lafayette's story. She told Alexander's friends' story, the closest people Alexander had apart from Eliza herself. She told Washington's story, the person who trusted Alexander. Eliza Hamilton was such a great person and I am so glad that HER story was told.

When Washington started with his first verses from History Has It's Eyes On You it gave me a new context. When Madison and Thomas started it gave the feeling of the slight forgiveness. When Angelica sang it gave me the sad realization of how unlucky Alex was, and how lucky he suddenly became so long later. When Burr sang I felt like he really wanted to make up for what he done and help Eliza tell his story. When Eliza started singing I felt relief, joy. Her need to be enough and do such incredible things for everyone. When she spoke about the Washington Monument it amazed me to know this women done that. When she spoke about the orphanage I was proud an again amazed. Eliza has way peaked her goal. And when she spoke about seeing Alexander again, it broke me. That was her last line. Her last breath, it was like finishing an amazing book with the biggest and warmest smile on your face. This song, this musical satisfied me. It showed me a new perspective on history. Even though I already loved history, this gave me the knowledge that they were actually people. Not words on a text book or statues. Thank you, Lin-Manuel Miranda. For everything.

What is so nice about being able to read and research about history. Alexander truly did tell his story just a little help from Lin Manuel Miranda. I was in tears at the end of this, just think if I went to the play. History is beautiful and will never sleep during History class again. As after watching this I learned that anything is possible and hopefully in future years I will find other past figures that also have a story untold to the public. Thank for this! It was amazing how I could picture what was happening in my head, but I did not picture the people in powdered wigs. Not my thing really.

So the first time (and the few times I listened to this song after) I hadn't cried. Not once. Yet, seeing the lyrics. Being able to actually imagine that last scene, that made me tear up. But this time, when she got to the orphanage, I bawled. Not because of the musical, not because Alexander was an orphan. I cried, because my dream for near 8 years now, is to one day create and run my own orphanage. That's what finally hammers the last nail in for me~ TT-TT
@101ISISTERS7 жыл бұрын
OK, this song has so much meaning to me. The first musical production that I was ever in, was called "Once On This Island". When I looked up the lyrics on Genius, I saw that the last line in the song is " Who tells your story," I learned that it is almost word for word and chord per chord as the last line in that exact musical. In the shows finale, we sing "Why We Tell Our Story" and in the final line we say "we tell the story". It was this musical that gave me my start in acting and how I knew I wanted to be an actor. I nearly cries when I found that out. I truly love Hamilton.
