Anti Aircraft Guns blast the Wehrmacht! Elements of the 461st AAA BAT, including M-60 Half-track M16s with quad .50 cals and GMC trucks towing 40mm Bofors M1 Anti Aircaft Guns, arrive at two locations in the Hürtgen forest on November 4th,1944 to support a 28th Infantry Division attack . They set up positions on a ridge and aim indirect fire at Germans units in the forest.
I created this mini documentary from recently discovered silent, unedited footage. I edited & assembled the shots into what I believe reflects the story telling intent of the combat cameramen who filmed it in1944. I added live sound effects sampled from real M60 Half-Tracks, GMC CCKW 353 2½-ton 6×6 trucks and live firings of Bofors 40mm Antiaircraft guns & Quad .50 calibers. This is unusually high quality footage showing men and equipment up close. Live firing scenes are awesome!

This video really displays a lesser known tactic for the m16 halftrack, using its quad mount as indirect fire support. You can imagine how frightening the rain of 50 cal bullets coming from one of those would be

It was also used in Korea and Vietnam for that reason.

Aside from the great footage of the guns firing, the off-road capability of the half-track is interesting as well.

Zenos Warbirds ; Thank you for sharing these "Historic" old films. One of my Uncles during WW2, served with an Artillery unit in the Pacific Theater. One of my sisters has some of the letters he wrote to my mother. Off hand, I don't remember his unit but, he mentioned it in the letters. Seems like it was 105 Howitzers but, ???????. I always enjoy watching your video presentations. Again, thank you. Stan.

You’re welcome. I always enjoy hearing from families of those who served who appreciate these films. That’s one of the reasons I do it. Very gratifying.

I'm pretty sure the quad 50s fired the 4 barrels alternately.

Actually, no. It was switchable between firing two at a time or all four at once.
