Yes John it was tough, better luck in the national mate. Don't think I have had that many boats going through on a canal before, and the leaves were a pain aswell. That's the curse of wicac again, lol.

Rock hard canal fishing is not for the faint-hearted. I can handle the fishing being poor, but those flies would have driven me bananas. Look forward to the next one, keeping fishing real appreciate your efforts.

White mags sliding float set to 5ft fished 6 feet out always been good on the shropshire union a few miles up from there found reds did not work caster ok as well that is what i have used on a regular basis rod and centre pin poles do my back in

There are always fish up and down the ledges Small marbles of groundbail and squats Caster over And then rotate your 5 lines

Canals are such hard work. Nowhere day's with all boat traffic. Ud not fished my local canal in years and it used to be. Easily on a short even match. That said jon absolutely fantastic to see another video so quite mate. I still the my names Jon Murry and im an angling addict 👍

Cheers matey, it wasn't a very rewarding day but great to see a lot of familiar faces from around the country. Shallow canals are not really my forte but I'm learning a few things, hopefully this weekends draw will have more fish and less flies 🤞

Yes it was poor for sure Martin. The farm opposite must have been the source as you say - I couldn't smell anything but there were definitely cattle over there.

Nice watch that John. Difficult to build a decent weight with minnows and inch long gonks 😩 Quick question: when you tackle the inside line on a canal is it best to fish at the foot of the nearside ledge in the deeper water or on the ledge just before it drops off? I would always start at the foot of the shelf. They're much more prounounced on our deep Yorkshire canals though and on top can be very deep sometimes anyway. I'm usually looking for 8ft for roach but on shallow canals they just slope gently to the track. The advice on shallow narrow canals is normally to fish both down the shelf and up the shelf. Some people caught well tight across and its fairly obvious to see why when there's so much boat traffic.

Agreed, it wasn't easy for the majority with the boats, the flies just made a bad day worse. The setup time was quite short and I need a bit longer than most due to cameras etc but really it was lack of venue knowledge and rig selection that cost me time.

All the sections in the national are different but feeder pinkies ground bait will be ok Nantwich area but soundly bigger fish ,chub perch,Middlewich more roach gudgeon
