I was gobsmacked to learn that petunias and alyssum are heat tolerant. I bought a hanging basket of purple petunias and was thinking I'd lose them once it got hotter. The container was so densly packed with plants that I broke it up and got two more pots. Now that I know they'll survive the heat, I'm going to put them in the ground with another heat lover, Florida native red salvia, and alyssum. If you want a shrub that will last a long time, not just something for a container, choose plumbago. I planted a row of them 15 years ago and they're still going strong. Thriving nicely in the Tampa Bay area of Florida, zone 10B. One plant mentioned here that doesn't do well in high temps are roses. They'll live, but struggle to bloom. Also be aware that oleanders are poisonous and handle them with gloves on.

Yeah, I’m wondering how well some of these will survive in the heat of Texas. Temps exceed 100 easily.

I’m in zone 9, and the only things that have done well during the last 2 droughts are moss rose, summer poinsettias, lantanas, cannas, cosmos, and zinnias. I’m sure there are more, but these are what I had planted, and have sown the seeds already for this year.

Grew Mex sunflowers last year they were at least 10 feet tall with tones of blooms. Really wowed me

You should try Mexican Petunias...they bloom purple flowers all summer but will spread rather quickly if you plant them in the ground. I have a fence row full of them and love them...

I have the purple one from Africa and it’s not doing well in Florida due to little rain. I have others that I planted last year that aren’t doing well, due to no rain. The garden shop said they were drought tolerant, but they are not.

Can these thrive in caribbean sun? I have some hanging baskets and am lookin tor flowers that can take the full sun
@shirleyandrews115210 ай бұрын
Warning: Some of these won’t survive in full sun in the Calif’ interior valley. we’re having full weeks of over 90* dry heat. Last yr a day of 113*. This is not uncommon for this area. I’m in northern Calif foot hills near Chico.☀️☀️☀️
