GameGatsby I think the reason lies within the fighting szenes. The whole trailer there was awesome fighting action but when it came down to the battle with the dragon.. It didnt even took 4 minutes and it was over again. People wanted to see awesome fights. The wole thing was over too fast.

The director said that he wanted to take a true story and give it a fantasy spin and have the best of both worlds. I feel he achieved it. You understand the way of the bushido and why the samurai did what they did. It blended well with the special effects and the human values and code of honor between Kai and Oishi were observed with respect. I liked Keanu in this and loved his relationship with Hiroyuki Sanada (The Last Samurai).

ThIs turned out to be not only one of my favorite Keanu Reeves movies but 1 of my favorite movies period. The story was amazing; and I loved the love story part also. It was well acted. Very interesting. Very sad ending, but overall I thought it was a great movie, I bought it! The samurai were amazing. I love the whole respect aspect of the Asian culture.

Saw the movie last night. Loved it! I'm actually glad they went with a more supernatural take on the story...honestly there are waaaayy too many freaking historical stories in Chinese and Japanese film. I really enjoyed this movie! My wife and I watched it on Pay per view last weekend and we were pretty impressed! I liked the setting, story, action, characters, and the visual effects were *stunning* - I wasn't particularly happy with the ending but other than that, it was really quite enjoyable. My wife and I kept saying to each other while watching it, "Wow - this is a good movie..." LOL I am pretty sure it was a better movie than it's performance at the Box Office seemed to indicate....

OH GOSH, why all hate at the movie?. First things first, he is a half-Breed, half European-Half Japanese. left to die as a baby in a Demon Forest. He then is adopted by the Japanese Clan that he serves in the film. Oh by he way, the women leads are both exotic and sexy in the film. The one playing the Witch is super hot and turns into one of the more impressive dragons in recent movies. As far as being historically accurate, is AN AMERICAN MADE MOVIE, sorry. For the better original version watch the Japanese one, I suppose . But still, even not being as great as the original is decent enough for a glimpse of the Samurai way of life. The action is a little flat, but the study of the character's moral decisions within their world is interesting.

Universal is distributing the film, but it IS a Japanese production. Keanu Reeves is not white and looks Asian; he is Hawaiian, Chinese, English among other nationalities. He was chosen for the role of Kai, not only because of his Asian heritage, but because the makers of this film would like people to actually see this film. ( Mr. Reeves had done some superb dramatic work, for example, The Gift comes to mind.) No, this is not the original 47 Ronin and does not pretend to be. Instead of posting how "horrible" this movie is ... or how bad its lead actor is ... and all for a film not one of you has even seen ... why are you people even here?

i love this movie also. i love keanu reeves and i hated the way Kai was treated by the ronin but the one thing i liked was that they finally gave him the respect he deserved when at the end they realized it wasnt who he was or what he was that made him gain their respect but the things he learned from the demons he was raised with and around. You have the dead master, the 47 ronin, the vengeance plan and the final harakiri. You can say you don´t like the fantasy tale and you wanted to be real like the 1941 version, but the story is the same. PS: I also prefer 1941 version, but this one isn´t bad with that fantasy touch

I thought this movie was going to be off due to the magic , but i have to say it was serious and enjoyable. 8 out of 10 . Better than alot of movies out now
