An excellent tester to add to the electronics bench. Testing optocouplers has always been a pain to me, because there are two separate devices inside the one package. So, you must test two different functions, at once. I usually only see the single transistor type. So, I am going to configure your circuit to test both single and dual transistor types. Thanks for the great idea. This circuit will bring some relief to me. lol.

@@HaseebElectronics lol... I have already laid out a design in KiCad. It can test EL817 and TLP250 type optocouplers. I will need to put it on a breadboard to test it. Are there any other common Octocoupler types that I might need to include in the design? Hmm... I don't have a TLP250 type optocoupler. I guess I could just build it out of individual components. I will let you know how it goes... Thanks for the inspiration!

I had commented that I was going to breadboard your circuit and I am glad that I did. I did not observe the same illumination pattern as you. I did double check my breadboard connections and I am confident that I had made them correctly. You used LEDs of different colors (meaning different Vf.) I used white LEDs (meaning the same Vf) and 1K current-limiting resistors. You observed one color on and one off. Then you pressed the button and your LEDs swapped illuminations. My illuminations were both LEDs illuminated (without the button being pressed) and only one LED (your D1) illuminated, when I pressed the button. This makes sense, in relation to your schematic... While D2 and D1 share a connection to Pin 6, they are in series with one another, from +12V to GND, as you have the schematic drawn. If I understand correctly how the circuit works, D2 relies on the resistance of D1 and R3 to cause the power to take the path of least resistance through the PNP transistor to ground. Maybe the resistance provided by your different color LEDs was sufficient to cause the correct path to ground, where my circuit, using the same color LEDs, did not provide a sufficient difference in resistance? I do not know, because I am not as good at engineering as you are... yet... lol. Or, maybe you wired your prototype slightly differently than your schematic? I do understand that the NPN transistor acts as a normally closed switch and that the PNP transistor acts as a normally open switch. When power is applied to their bases, by way of the internal LED and photo-receiver, the NPN transistor opens and the PNP transistor closes. Would you, please, make another video about the operations of the circuit and the paths the power takes, for the different button states? You can use the different colored pencils trick, again. LOL Anyway, I am learning lots and having great fun. All thanks to you!

Oh NO. i think there is some disconnection in bread bord internal connection strips. otherwise it must work Pin 16 to +12V pin 8, 3 & 15 to Ground clock input to pin 14 LED no. 1 to pin 3 led 2 to pin 2 led 3 to pin 4 led 4 to pin 7 led 5 to 10 led 6 to pin 1 led 7 to pin 5 led 8 to pin 6 led 9 to pin 9 led 10 to pin 11 POWER ON and ENJOY the running lights. LOL if you want to connect next stage pin 12 of first stage will go to pin 14 of second stage

@@HaseebElectronics Greetings, Haseeb! I returned to experimenting with my TLP250 chip and I am realizing that it has some major differences to your chip. These differences may explain the difference in performance that I encountered. I purchased a Toshiba TLP250H. I am using its data sheet dated 2015-12-24/Rev.4.0; see page 2, for the Pin Assignment diagram. I am not sure of the symbols, but I believe this model uses FETs, instead of BJTs. And, it has two NPNs stacked in series. Yours has one NPN and one PNP, which I think is a more useful design, because you have more configuration options. I want to test mine to confirm that it does not have a PNP and that this is not just a printing error. I am hopeful that you will have an opportunity to review this data sheet and give me some ideas on the differences that I may expect in its operations and use. And, how I might confirm the NPN/PNP types. I am thinking that just a simple diode polarity test might do for that? I will have to think on it. Thank you, again, for all that you do for us! Cheers!

I will also be watching (again) your other/first(?) video about this IC; your video #462.
@t1d10011 ай бұрын
I did watch #462. I noted that you are using TLP250INV. "INV" stands for inverting. This would explain why the INV model uses NPN and PNP? The "H" models is non-inverting, I think. So, NPN and NPN. I only had a moment to review the INV data sheet, but there appears to be other important differences. Example: H model - Pin 6 and 7 are not common. Inv model - Pins 6 and 7 are common. So, folks should be very careful, when selecting the model that they need. I look forward to your thoughts.

@@HaseebElectronicsGreetings, Haseeb! I played with my H model some more. As I said, the H model uses two NPN transistors. I find having two of the same transistors makes the device much more limited in its configurations and uses. The solution, I guess, is to add a bootstrap circuit, to create a PNP. But, that is more components. I am wondering, if you could think of and explain a use for two NPNs, as it is made? Thank you.

I was a little surprised to see the capacitor. Why is it necessary, meaning what is it doing? Thanks. Hmm... Guess I'll watch the video, again... Wonderful!
@HaseebElectronics3 жыл бұрын
this capacitor is use to remove switching noises of the mosfet and provides the compensation to the internal comparators during switching so, it prevents from false switching
I see that you use common ground for diode and transistor at pin 3 and 5, I have also some tlp250 and they only work with 2 separate grounds from separate power supplies. Why?
