48 Hours in Shenzhen - one of the fastest growing cities in China (vlog)

In this video I take you on a journey through Shenzhen, China! It's easy to say this is one of my favorite cities I've been to in the WORLD... yeah that's right. I really hope you enjoy seeing the city through my time there.
Here is my GUIDE to travelling in Shenzhen in a short amount of time (2 days). Let me know if you have any questions at all about my trip and I'll do my best to answer :D

I was teaching in Shenzhen September 2019 - January this year, and only didn't go back because of the coronavirus outbreak; this made me so nostalgic. I've been to OCT a couple of times, so it was super exciting to see places I recognized!

Hi Jen, I see Shenzhen as my home city. I moved to Shenzhen in 1988 after college in Xian. I spent 3 years, best three years out my 56 years life. I left Shenzhen to Texas. I miss Shenzhen. I visited Shenzhen 3 times last 29 years. Last time was 2018.

Good video girls. Pity that you missed ALL the really worth visiting places in Shenzhen: 1. Sea world (located at just a few meters from your first destination that I would recommend but it has a lot if more interesting places than the ones you have shown). In SeaWorld area there is the newest and more beautiful seaside walk in Shenzhen (since it's new it's not crowded yet) and the also new fantastic Design Center made in cooperation with the London Victoria and Albert museum. 2. OCT Loft Art and Design district, not far from the other OCT you visited but far more interesting, attractive and the coolest neighborhood in Shenzhen. Completely full of avant garde design in all areas, arts, decoration, architecture, furniture, clothes, book sotores with an European atmosphere, lovely French, Chinese, Thai, British cafes and restaurants even two or three places offering cool jazz sessions every evening while sitting in the open air in Summer. 3. The gorgeous Civic Center area, better to be visited at sunset time when you'll be able to watch the absolutely fantastic light show twice in the evening. This show is one of the most beautiful ones in the whole China (find out the days and times). In this area you also have one of the most remarkable architecture complexes in all China: a. The Civic Center building itself, b. the Public Library, c. the Opera House, d. the outstanding Contemporary Art Museum, e. one of the largest bookstores in the world and f. when it is already dark and the park has artificially lightening painters pop out making portraits to the passers-by, teaching dwawing and painting lessons to children, there is young people dancing, singing and playing music and all sorts of things. g. Dafen painters District, nowhere else in China you'll find a similar place, not even at 978 Art Space in Beijing. Absolutely beautiful and attractive area where painters paint in the open air, narrow picturesque alleys, art galleries, all kinds of shops selling all items painters need, paintings, canvasses, frames, etc, etc. A place where to spend a whole day, looking, looking and looking. h. And last but not least, a visit to the Kingkey Tower, the second tallest building in Shenzhen but by far the most beautiful and classy one.Much nicer than the Ping An Tower. It's an absolute must having British style tea at it's "Drawing Room" on the 96th floor or at least having a drink. With previous reservations. Good to arrive there when there still is day time and staying while all the lights of the city begin to appear one by one. It's a 360 view much more beautiful than the view at PingAn tower All the tables are located close to the window with a perfect view and besides, there are always few people because indiscriminate entrance is not allowed and you can even walk around as many time you wish. There is also someone playing piano and singing beautiful songs. Never a noisy crowded place and a view you'll never forget. Do enjoy next time and I woud recommend you staying at an Airbnb in the OCT Loft Area trying to find one near a Metro station. This is an extremely beautiful and green area full of attractions and the Metro will easily take you everywhere. Or you have the Ibis Splendid China Branch Hotel right in front of a metro station, Shennan Avenue, the fountains, the tematic parks, the monorail, shops, Seven Eleven, Walmart, cafes, restaurants, everything but sorrounded by woods.

Oh yes, I have been eight times in Shenzhen for long periods each time and have both Chinese and foreign friends there. This is why I have given all these tips to you. Because if its woods, parks, architecture and vibe Shenzhen in my favorite big city in China though there are others big ones that I also like. Then there are the small towns but this is another "chapter".

Since I first visited the city in 2011 I have been doing lots of researchs in advance every time I go there and the Chinese and foreign friends I have in Shenzhen always give me the best possible tips whenever I visit the city and fortunately they also personally take me to different places which is great. Nobody knows a place better than the ones that live there specially when they love there which is the case.
