This is a very sturdy and well built mower. I thought I wouldn't like the foot operated speed control but after one use kzbin.infoUgkxTZSPVwJFBv2hORqhQamtxi-tAe5K2EtC , I can't believe I ever had one without it. It drives like a car with an automatic transmission. Easy to adjust mowing speed according to grass depth/thickness. I have yet to get used to the long throw of the blade engagement lever but kind of get why it is that way. It allows you to hold mowing for short moments if you need. The engine seems very substantial and the frame has very little flex, both adding up to an impressive package. All my previous tractors were 18 to21 hp with 42in decks. This one is 23/46. I mow about 1.5 acres about every 5 days here in Alaska and that mowing time has been reduced by about 20%, partly due to the very tight turning radius. No loop arounds lol. Hour meter, cruise control, reverse mowing capability,deck cleanout and easy assembly all add up to a very well thought out tractor.

I have a '15 model with 800 or more hours. I wish the deck would go one notch higher. Also, the plastic oil drain plug was junk. I replaced it with a 1/2" nipple with a valve. Easier and cleaner to drain the oil. The throttle likes to stick when going uphill. A couple of spindles died about 500 hours. Otherwise, it is a very reliable mower.

I bought one in 2013. Like you, I don't like the 3 mph in reverse. When I want to cut in reverse, I just put my heel on top of the forward pedal and pull it backwards. I get plenty of speed, it's not awkward, at all; and doing this has never injured my heel or ankle. One of these days, I'll remove the reverse pedal all together, and I doubt I'll ever miss it.

I learned not to cut wet grass when I was 10 years old! And who needs a fuel gauge on a lawn mower? Like you said.....just top it off every time you want to mow!
@johnh6561
@johnh6561 7 жыл бұрын
There are days I mow 25 yards a day. There's no use for a fuel gauge? Plenty of hours of daylight to be constantly keep topping off every few lawns. Time=money. I only fill up when I need to and at the end of the day. I have mowers both with and without fuel gauges. Just because you've never used a HD mower, doesn't mean you can't mow wet grass! Low deck volume with low air flow means no wet grass for you.

My tractor wheel spins on Hillside... I have to run it 1/3 throttle just to make it up the hill, otherwise at full throttle the wheels just spin and I get stuck on the hill

Anyone know what the problem is, maybe shitty tires because there's plenty of power to make it up the hill, just tires spin stopping me from going uphill
@zachmichaelg
@zachmichaelg 7 жыл бұрын
Well, are the tires shitty? Are they wore out? Turf Saver tires aren't very aggressive to begin with. How much do you weigh? If you are a light weight, have someone that is heavier than you try to go up the same hill. You'd be surprised what an extra 40 pounds will do for traction. If you notice a difference, there are weights that you can add to the wheels or to the "hitch" area that may help. Or just carry a case of beer on the back of the tractor. I hear thats what they do in Ohio. Also check your tire pressure. Over inflating by as little as 5psi can reduce the traction of the tires.

I have the same unit, all you have to do to fix the seat is bend the fingers down so they engage better but I would recommend that the seat be adjusted where you like it in the case you bend them to much. On the reverse pedal do what I did, attach a 1/2 inch thick hard rubber spacer to the top of the pedal via two screws(drill pilot holes!) so it is easier to push down to get the desired movement. Another note, you're carb has a anti backfire solenoid in the float bowl. This is the NUMBER ONE cause for starting failure(all Briggs engines) if you use ethanol fuel. Simply remove the solenoid and cut the valve tip off so fuel can flow because the ethanol makes it stick closed. If it backfires a lot when turned off throttle it all the way down before you turn the 🔑 off, better for the motor anyway.

I have a Husqvarna LGT 2554 that I bought in May of 2011, so 9:years. I love it, I have not had any problems at all. The only be thing I've done beside tune up maintenance is replaced the battery, which is expected. I do a complete tune up each year. I keep it out of the weather. I've never even had a flat tire! I give mine a little Rock and look over the right rear tire at my gas level. The sight glass in is useless. I have no problem with my seat sliding. I did buy mulching blades just because I have some large trees and in the fall lots of leaves, but after a year I replaced them with a new set of high lift blades and I really like to them. When I purchased mine, Lowe's had it out of level, so I adjusted the level, got an it dead on, and I'm happy with it. JohnG

i have the same mower and cuts great with wet grass, you just have to tie your deck guard up and it throws wet grass 4 ft out. no issues with my seat or fuel. I bought my mower over the john deer because the warranty was so much better on the Husqvarna.

With my Husqvarna if I lift the grass catching guard, the blade is exposed and it will throw debris up at you and this is dangerous. I used my sawzall to cut it off even with the deck. This is working much better to discard the grass clippings and also still protects the rider. It is a good mower in my opinion. I have never had trouble with the seat moving. I've never had the vapor lock issue either. Maybe I'm just lucky. It does get pretty hot here in S.C.

The vapor locking is not a fault of the fuel hose or the way that it is routed. The problem is with the hood & the deep firewall well where heat builds up. We had a similar Husqvarna in our shop a few yrs ago that would act up on/off. We finally lifted the hood off & mowed with no further issue.The hood or fire wall well needs venting added.

I'm late to the party but have had this mower for a couple years. One is the deck does not like wet grass of any kind. My older sears craftsman never had that issue. Also on this mower I always have the throttle get stuck especially when going up an incline and it sucks cause you end up getting jerked around when it unsticks. this usually takes me tapping the reverse pedal. I have had it looked at by a licensed dealer and they said the fixed it but still does it. have not had any issues with vapor lock but then I live in Washington state.

I have had a clutch spring break and had it one year. The little cable end broke off but easy fix. Other than this I love everything about my Husqvarna above any riding mower I have had. Yes the seat does slide but just bend the teeth a little and slipping stops. Don't bend a lot just enough so it catches. With little ones you will not want full throttle reverse believe me. You'll thank them for this later.

I have had a 2448 now for 9 years and the seat has stayed where I set it when I first got it. It does not move! I noticed the teeth stick down in the notch openings more than yours. The only major problem I had to have fixed is the L brackets that bolt to the Hydro trans axle broke and let it flex enough to cause the drive belt to fly off. It cost me about $125.00 for dealer made re-enforcement brackets and labor to install them 2 years ago. I mow about 2 acres weekly some hills and banks some flat. I mow the banks up and down, not side ways. This mower replaced a Wheel Horse tractor. Good luck with yours.

I have the GT54LS with the rapid replace blade system, if yours has that system, get rid if it ASAP. The covers fly off and expose the blade holders to damage. I just put regular blades on and much better cut/reliability now. Easy to convert to normal blades, since the star pattern spindles are already installed. You just need to grind the bolt tips down about 1/8-1/4" so the blades don't hit the longer bolts. They are 1/4" too long. Conversion only takes 20 minutes with deck removed, or you can get a mowjack to speed things up.

I actually like mine most of the time. One thing I don't like is the frame seems to very rigid and the thing will try to turn over if you're sideways on a slope or crossing a ditch, which will either try to flip it or it'll high-center and leave you stuck. This mower is pretty fast when you're mowing, moves at a good clip with 48" cut. Reverse, yeah it's kinda slow, if you give the pedal a little more heel it'll go backwards a little faster, but I think it's designed that way so you don't back over the dog, the cat or the kids.

In your owners manual it tells you to make sure to clean the grass out of the pan where your top belt runs. The grass clumps up and does allow the belt to turn at top speed, I had the same problem I cleaned it out and it returned to full speed.

I have a Poulan Pro 700EX and have had the same issue with the seat and viewing how much fuel is in it since it was new 13 years ago. It also reversed slow and I pointed it out to the dealer and he ordered a new rod that connected to the pedal and the new one was longer. It resolved the slow reverse and would back up full throttle.

*FOR ANYBODY ELSE WITH THESE SAME ISSUES:* *A)* For the seat sliding issue, you might be able to stick a screwdriver up in there to pry the tangs down just a little bit (or if you never need to change the seat position, pry them down a lot do they *definitely* won't slip). *B)* For the reverse pedal issue, maybe you could stick a condom, I mean a sock/topper/cap to raise the height of that pedal top.
@Scott.Farkus

I have the yth24v48. I raised the reverse pedal up about an inch or so, there's a stop you have to get the plastic part past, but once you do you drill a hole(there's already a hole in the plastic part) drill through the hole and through the metal flat bar then put a pin through it to keep it there, makes it a bit easier to go in reverse, not much faster but easier to engage. The seat adjuster you can use a flat screwdriver to bend the tabs down more so they hold the seat in position better. Mine doesn't slip at all. The biggest complaint I have about my Husqvarna is it's inability to mow on the side of a hill. The machine is top heavy and the upper wheel loses traction on sidling hills. If it had a locking rear differential to give traction to both rear wheels it would have more traction, but the thing is on the verge of rolling over on the side of a hill. Other than that it's a fast mower and can handle tall grass. If you have a flat yard you'll love it, if you have a sloped yard you'll probably wish you bought something else, unless you can mow it up and down instead of side to side.

Cutting grass when wet is a common problem on all mowers,so not Husqvarna`s fault. I do agree with you on the fuel gauge lol,can`t read if full or low. So far I`m happy with my 48 Husqvarna,and my wife for buying it for my birthday :) What weight oil do you use in summer,I`m in New England but most of mowers use will be summer,early Autumn use,so hot. Think 5w 30 for general use maybe 30 weight in summer ? suggestions as my mowers coming up to 5 hours use and needs first oil change. Nice review.

I like how you park it in the garage and keep it inside. In my opinion this is one of the best home owner built tractors you will get. Built by AYP like Ariens, Poulan and some Craftsman. The headlights don't work great anyways they are the same on all the AYP and MTD mowers. Even Murray got dust and dirt in the lights. Some tractors don't have lights and most zero turns don't, more of a sells gimmick if you ask me.

You mentioned that dirt and dust in the headlight would be in there for life. NOT TRUE. Granted the headlights are not sealed but you can remove the entire light assembly by removing 2 bolts on the inside of the hood. Once the light assembly is removed you can separate the lens from the light housing and clean the lens and the inside of the light assembly. All of this process is really quite easy. Also, you were giving pros and cons on the mower. One additional "CON" that I have is that Husqvarna uses a reflective foil on the inside of the headlight assembly. They actually taped the foil together to give it the correct shape of the headlight assembly housing. I feel this is really cheesy and cheap. I guess to keep cost down they have to cut corners where ever they can.
@NoahTheHomeInspectorTV
@NoahTheHomeInspectorTV 8 жыл бұрын
I meant it as the dust would be in there for the period of MY mowers life, not yours. If the dust cannot be removed with a leaf blower or with water, then there is not a chance in you know what that I am going to be disassembling the headlight assembly ever single time I mow the lawn. I mow roughly 20 times a year, possibly more, and my time is way too valuable to be cleaning headlights every single time I use the mower. The headlight assembly should have been either sealed or far easier to clean. Period. I agree the foil is cheap.

Sorry to come in at the eleventh hour on this, but I just ran across this discussion (I have a two-year old YTH24V48). I completely agree with the general comments re. trying to keep dust out of (or cleaned from) the headlight assembly. I did a minor DIY modification that has all but eliminated the problem. As suggested by someone else(s?), I removed both lamp sockets from the headlight assemblies, then removed the two headlight housing assemblies. I then removed the lens from the rear housing, and took out the folded "reflector" that was inside the assembly. I thoroughly washed and dried the lens and rear housing, then VERY GENTLY cleaned the folded (aluminized paper) "reflector." When reassembling the complete light housing, I attached the reflector to the rear housing using nothing more than double-sided tape (carpet tape in this case) and, before snapping the lens back onto the rear housing, I applied a small bead of clear silicone adhesive/sealant to both halves, ensuring that the sealant was applied ONLY to the two halves where they met once assembled (ergo ensuring that it stayed off of the interior surface of the lens). Once snapped together, I ran a second bead of silicone along the entire perimeter of the joint between the two halves of the assembly, Once the silicone had begun to "set up" (but before it had fully cured), I installed a strip of tape (vinyl electrical tape would probably suffice - I used a tape (also black) that is far less prone to turning "gooy" when the adhesive degrades). I allowed the silicone sealant in/on the assemblies to fully cure, then reinstalled them just as they were originally. The last part of the modification I made (which really has nothing to do with the dust issue) was to replace the standard incandescent automotive lamps, with some FAR brighter LED lamps (it sounds expensive, but I got two lamps for $15 -- Amazon ASIN B00F23BNUG if anyone is interested). The final steps of the modification (when installing the LED lamps) were to: (a) apply silicone dielectric grease (a.k.a. "tuneup grease" - a tube that will last YEARS costs ~$7 or $8 at NAPA or most any auto parts store); (b) "lock" the bulbs in the sockets by inserting a clipped (small) wire tie between the OD of the lamp base and the ID of the socket - to prevent vibration from causing the bulbs to gradually loosen and, possibly, fall from the socket and into the housing (a MAJOR pain-I-T-A to retrieve); (c) "plug" all openings at the rear of the lamp socket (esp. where the wires entered) with silicone sealant; and (d) apply a LIGHT layer of silicone sealant to the flat surface of the lamp socket - where it bears against the rear of the lamp housing - to complete the seal of the entire assembly (I said LIGHT here because the possibility of needing to remove the lamp socket in the future is ALWAYS present). I've added as much detail as possible, which makes this sound like an inordinate amount of work, but it is really not . . . I had mine completely finished within a day - and that's allowing overnight for the silicone sealant to fully cure. I will NOT promise you that no dust AT ALL has gotten inside the headlight assemblies since I completed this (three or four months ago?) - but there has been a DRAMATIC change in how clean the interior of the headlights remain on my unit . . . AND, the light output FAR exceeds what it was originally. I hope some of you find this useful - best of luck if you try it.

I have a couple questions and comments. Do you know how to level the deck on the Husqvarna? I have the LGT 2554, and it looks like the deck is not level, there are threaded rods, one on each side, towards rear of deck, but seems like no adjustment is left. I never had issues with my seat adjustment, but after I set it, in farthest back setting, I never mess with it. I never cut grass when wet, even if it's just dew. I let it dry out. After cutting, I take my blower and blow out old grass on top of deck. Seems to work better than a hose, wet grass gets gummed up. True about the gas/ fuel level window, hard to see anything thru it, so I look over my right rear tire, shake mower a little, and can see gas in the tank and tell how empty/full. You mention wanting to go full throttle while backing up. The throttle is up on the dash,on the left,push it forward to full throttle. Now, maybe you really mean that you want to go faster ground speed in reverse,then you would need to find a way to move the reverse pedal further for faster ground speed.

Good video. With respect to the reverse issue, it looks like the forward pedal is directly linked to the reverse knob (?). It might not be the safest way to go, but if you hooked your heel over the top of the forward pedal, you might be able to go a bit faster. I'd definitely have your other foot on the brake, if (if there's a separate pedal for that.

Here’s a question for you! I have a YTA 24V48, which I bought in 2016. I’ve never had a problem until this year when I go up an incline and it will stop. The engine doesn’t seem to lose power at all. However, when I let go of the throttle and press it down again, it will go ahead. I usually have to do that two or three times going up my driveway. Any suggestions? I was told it could be my transmission belt.

You shouldn't LOL. However, my old 1988 Craftsman Garden tractor 18HP, 44" 3 blade deck would run circles around these new POS mowers being built now...the decks are terrible no matter which color you buy the decks are horrible. Find it funny this tractor looks exactly like my current Craftsman lawn tractor, just different color.

Take the tractor to a service dept. and they'll "adjust" those teeth or other parts of the seat. :) Thanks for the review. If you're wearing boots, you might hook your heal on the gas pedal and pull it toward you. Wouldn't that simulate pushing down on the reverse pedal? Not the greatest way to do it, but I thought it would be something to think about. :D

If that is Bermuda grass you are cutting in the wet???Well good luck. That is like steel wool. You ever try to hit a club through that in the rough? Bermuda Grass = Rotary Machine. Take a screw driver and fix the tabs on the seat. Was never set right the first time or defective from setup. Easy fix. Fuel line. Well that happens to everyone. Plus you got the INTEK motor which is the cheapest from Briggs. Glad you like the seat. And it looks like your getting a hell of a workout to require a sports drink while cutting or sitting on your BUTT! These guys at Husq make a great machine for the dollar.

I only have one. Husqvarna can't afford to supply two! Wait for the damp grass to collect on the deck below and around the pulley recesses and rot the deck. The powder coating on mine was useless. The alloy shaft housings break, Husqvarna cannot keep up supplying replacements which you have to pay for, waiting 4 weeks already and still not arrived. These are not like the concrete saws they make!

My mower blew the valve cover gasket and i traced it to buildup on top of the mower deck being so severe is caused the pulleys to lock up and the mower was only turning the deck at 3/4 full speed. Pathetic deck design. Theres a lip under the deck up front that grass sticks to and cakes up. I pressure washed the entire thing top and bottom and its good as new but i was dissapointed to see rust and paint gone already..

Have the same tractor but with 48" Fab deck which is 1/4" steel. My seat does the same thing. Headlights suck. My fuel filter was way forward from where yours is and got a hole rubbed in it from vibrating on the motor. It happened while cutting and I smelled the gas. We put new filter on and a piece of 1" hose around it. I also have a reserve switch under the seat so if you run out of gas it will get you back to the garage. The biggest thing I don't like is you must clean the grass out from under the deck on this mower every 2 or 3 cuttings or it just clumps it up and makes a mess of the yard.

Connie On the oil drain take the plug out of the engine and replace it with a length of pipe long enough to clear the frame and put a coupler on the pipe and put your plug or a plug in the couplee !!! Have done that twice and works great !!! However with your new purchase there is a tube included to stick on the ind of the oil drain to avoid that problem!!! Drain into a jug/bucket !!! No mess !!!

I am experiencing the same hard starting issue. Mine is a 2014 twenty two horse, 48" cut. I am guessing the problem has something to do with where they locate the gas tank (under the seat). I also have a 14hp Murray that I bought new in 1998 and that gas tank is just in front of steering column. It is VERY dependable, is easy to start and always starts. I regret buying this 2014.
