481. Paint Pouring! New Color Palette! How To Create A Bloom On A 12x24 Canvas!!

Hi all! The Fluid Art Co is getting ready to release some new pigment colors on October 13, and I got my hands on a few of their new colors! Today's video will highlight the beauty of Billabong and Wild Atlantic; both of which played beautifully with Golden's Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold and Iridescent Gold Bright. I also used some Golden Titan Green Pale, which I initially poo-poo'ed but boy was I wrong! The color accentuated the rest perfectly! I'm so taken with this color scheme and these pigments that this will be a series--I have two more videos (each better than the last in my opinion) and I might do a fourth! I'm also using a 12x24 canvas! I haven't used this size since I moved out of my kitchen in January! It's a little tricky doing the bloom technique on a canvas that is long and narrow as you don't want it to look too leggy, but I think I pulled it off!

THE RECIPE:
House Paint-base aka puddle for the substrate: PPG Multi-Pro in Satin at Home Depot.
Pouring Medium aka PM Recipe: mix with all colors EXCEPT the cell activator:
Behr 8300 Untinted Deep Base Paint (Home Depot); and Valspar High Gloss Ultra Base C Untinted base (Lowe's). 50/50. Mix well. NO varnish added!
Use the colors of your choice! These tutorials are meant to educate and inspire! Here's how to mix:
Pigments: For a 3 oz cup I add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of pigment powder to the cup, then add enough gloss varnish (any brand; I use JoSonja gloss varnish) to cover the powder. Mix well until all pigment is thoroughly wet; then add the pouring medium.
Golden, Atelier, and Da Vinci Fluid Acrylics: I put about 2-2 1/2 ounces of the pouring medium into a 3 ounce cup, then squirt in color until I reach my desired shade. Mix well.
For tube paint, I added an ounce of paint (heaping tablespoon) to a 3 ounce cup, then added 2 ounces of pouring medium. If still thick I add a squirt of Golden's High Flow Medium (thins and extends acrylic colors) and stir well. All pigments are 1/8th tsp. pre-disbursed with a small amount of JoSonja Varnish to wet it (stir really well), then add into a 3 oz. cup of Pouring Medium; stir well.
Cell Activator/Color: Australian Floetrol + Amsterdam Deep Gold. 3:1 Floetrol to paint.

Just an idea, if you will indulge me. Paint canvas w/pillow paint (thin),then apply pillow as usual but blow out 3/4 of the way prior to adding colors. Then do usual blow of your colors but stop w/out going overboard or over edge. Finish blowing only pillow, past the color. Just the white. This should keep your paint from cracking while drying....Just for fun, if you have access to a dehydrator for making jerky, maybe try a small canvas with thick paint. Just an idea, have thousands...1 or 2 might be good. Just sayin.

Or just add a little GAC800 to the house paint! 😉. It’s a product that prevents cracking. I don’t want to blow only the white off the edge-I need it to help spread the colors when I tilt or spin. Thanks for the suggestions!

Hi! That is deliberate as I spend a lot of time, money, and products figuring out my color palettes and the order in which they look best. While no one owns a color palette they are meant to inspire and not as a snatch and grab, so I think having to watch the video and write them down is not too much of a price to pay to someone who’s taken out all of the guesswork for you. Hope you understand.

I'm loving it I love the color palette, I was unsure about the green as well but I think it played real well with your colors. And I would love to see more 12x24 and even 10x20s. I know that small for you, but yeah I totally love this. And since this is a 8 months old I'm assuming you found some gloves? My son brings me home gloves from work and I love them. But off the top of my head I would have to go and ask him what brand they are I'm not even sure if he knows. All I know is are blue and they're not hard to get on. Gorgeous painting!!! Both frames look great, you can’t go wrong. I do think the bronze more enhances the piece so all aspects and colors stand out more in this stunning painting. But I tend to prefer more subtle frames so could be my bias. Trying to picture how each frame will look once the art is varnished too. Love it!

Billabong is a small patch of waterhole found in the Australian outback or sparse country areas, stockmen usally use them as camp sites when working cattle. I think the Gold frame compliments the painting best.

GORGEOUS!!! But you're right, I liked it a tiny bit better before you spun out that beautiful celling/lacing. I am completely new to this. I love, love your pieces. But I am so overwhelmed with all of the information, and am so intimidated, that I can't even start. I have all of the paint, canvases, etc bought, but am frozen with fear. That is just gorgeous. The frame is such a tricky one - maybe let whoever buys it choose? They both look amazing so maybe they can choose which fits their other decor/furniture etc better. The gold does really set off that colour palette but some people find gold frames a bit gaudy. The bronze is really beautiful and compliments all the colours but it doesn't quite have that 'punch-you-in-the-face' bling aspect to it. I think it comes down to personal choice so maybe offer the buyer a choice of frames? Gun to my head, if you absolutely forced me to choose I would go with the bronze I think. The gold is really lovely but I prefer the contrast with the bronze frame. Hope this helped! 😊

Karen, I don't know if this is helpful, but I am allergic to the latex so I found these clear Vinyl Exam Gloves on Amazon and they are very inexpensive. I bought size 'S' so I just rub a little bit of talc powder on my hands before putting the gloves on and the gloves slip on very nicely and they fit nice and snug. I don't like gloves to be too big in anyway. I too love the beautiful colors you have chosen. It sounds like everybody is getting ready and looking forward to Fall. 😃 I know I am.

Wow! I love this one! I prefer the bronze frame it compliments more, the gold one takes your eye away from the painting. If you have a lot of the gloves without powder left over, instead of wasting them, blow into them to open them up and sprinkle a little talcum powder in, or onto your hands first 🧡💛💙🩵🖤🤍
