48h Mekong River Cruise - THAILAND to LAOS 🇱🇦

As we leave our lovely hotel in Chiang Rai, Thailand, we embark on an exciting new journey! We are heading to Laos (or Lao) for the first time together, and we aren’t getting there in any boring old way… we are taking the scenic and very slow boat route. After booking the slow boat on a whim the other day, we anxiously wait for our transport to arrive at 6 am! The backpacker trail becomes more and more luxurious, no one wants to suffer any discomfort nowadays. The slow boat 25 years ago had hard wooden bench seats and sacks of rice to sit on. At Pak beng there was one guest house which was just mosquito nets over matresses outside. Only two other foreigners were seen on the trip.
