Hi, I have a charger like in your video. I would like to use it for a back up charger for my solar batteries. Is it practice to add an OBC to the system.
@GolfCartGarage Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! OBC is a Club Car 48V specific part. It can generally only work on a Club Car powertrain system designed for its use. While not impossible, the project you're proposing is not something our techs have dealt with. It may be advisable to contact Club Car directly for assistance. If I disable the OBC or On Board Computer on my 2006 Club Car Precedent, can I use a LINKS Series charger EPS by Lester Electric to charge my cart?
@GolfCartGarage2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for watching! No, the Links series from Lester does not have an internal control unit. It's on and off commands are given by the OBC, so it cannot operate if the OBC is malfunctioning or disabled. We recommend the Summit II model for these situations, using an onboard charger will bypass the OBC and Summit II is self-controlled. Your fix of a different charger is not valid. How to test the charger when you already know the obc is good.
@GolfCartGarage2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, Henry. We highly recommend the charger in the video to solve the problem for good, so we consider it the most valid solution available... but, we're salespeople... so, take that with a grain of salt. There is no test for the OBC driven charger. If your OBC is good and the charger doesn't work, either your batteries are totally dead or the charger needs to be replaced. You can test it on another Club Car with OBC or use another exact replacement charger to test your cart, but there is no testing machine or method. Hey, Robert! Thanks for stopping by... sorry to hear you had a charging issue like that. Without having been there, it's tough to say for sure... but, probably the OBC on the cart had an issue stopping the charger? I recently purchased a 2016 club car on May 16th, 2020. Upon getting it home, the bulky charger that came with it would work properly give 3 beeps and charge, but periodically would kick my breakers off, and would kick my neighbor's breakers as well. So, I exchanged and got a Summit II charger. First question, should I when plugging it up hear 3 beeps? I did on "old" charger, but now I hear nothing and within about 4 minutes the Summit II goes from solid blue and blinking orange "charge" light to solid blue only. I had called the company I purchased it from and told them I had concerns that batteries weren't charging, but he noted it was likely in trickle charge. Today, I got in cart and it started jerking and battery light came on. I got it home and ALL 6 batteries were completely dead. These are 2019 batteries, so I plugged it up to multiple outlets and it'll initially show on indicator (charger) all lights blinking, then turns to solid blue and orange, and within 2 minutes goes back to solid blue only. At no point does cart "beep" 3 times...but I'm not sure if it should... It sounds very much like it's the on board computer gone bad, but not entirely sure. My question initially is, should I hear the 3 beeps when I plug it up, as with new Summit II I wasn't sure, but it has yet to beep. Thanks for any help
@GolfCartGarage4 жыл бұрын
During a charge on our 2016 Precedent using Summit II, we do get the 3 beeps to confirm charger engagement. During charging, Summit II presents flashing yellow during phase one and finishes charging with a solid green indicator at the top. From what you've described, it doesn't sound like your Summit II ever made a solid connection to the cart, possibly because of an issue with the cart receptacle or wiring. Your 2016 cart, if that year model is accurate is not equipped with an OBC. If there is an OBC present because that was a typo or for some other reason, Summit will need to bypass it in order to charge. I recommend consulting one of our tech specialists at (800) 401-2934 in order to make sure you get up and running properly. Good luck!

Cheapest way is to bypass your charger and use an outlet timmer..$20 fix
@GolfCartGarage4 жыл бұрын
Hey, Santa! (I didn't know sleighs had an OBC?) Can't argue that, a cheap fix would be an outlet timer like you might use to turn your lights on while you're away to ensure that the charge stops and starts again if you can't be there to manage it. Because Summit II is self controlled and far more advanced, with so many other great features, we look at that as a stop gap measure, but thanks for mentioning it. That can be really helpful when you're stuck for a way to charge. Awesome!
