I still remember tha days when 49 patt jackets were considered worthless and people used to cut the insignia off and chuck them in the bin.....because of this prices will start to escalate in time...I have a black civil defence battle dress and trousers,not done a vid on that yet.

Cripes !! ..wonderful ! ..my Uncle would have worn one of these during his service in the 4th West Lancs. Royal Artillery. (He saw the dreadful German parachute drop over Crete and described it as ' A turkey shoot' .. most of those German lads landed dead !!) He was captured by the Italians at Tobruk in 1941 and was eventually a POW in Riese am Elbe in Germany for the rest of his war ! He was photographed in just such a jacket many times !! My Uncle was at Stammlager IV B north-east of the town of Mühlberg in the Prussian Province of Saxony, just east of the Elbe river..near Dresden.. when the RAF bombed that city that fatefull night he said 'You could read a book by the light of the fires !! '' He was detailed to 'clean up the burned corpses of the incinerated German people a few days later ..which must have been 'interesting' ! Dresden was predominantly a timber framed building city and oh man did it burn at a high temperature !

Cheers Jim m8 , yes war indeed is a terrible thing .....but it's up to us collectors to keep the history alive. I do like the old post war battle dress , 49 pattern...all going up in price , probably because they over 60-70 years old and are an important part of post war Britain's past. Cheers and thanks as always Jim m8 🙂🙂👍

I knew a lady who'd been a Helfiren during the war & found sanctuary in Ireland. She'd had two brothers in the Luftwaffe, two in the Der Fuhrer regiment & a baby brother. The four service men were all killed in action. Her Mother & baby brother took refuge in Dresden after fleeing from the Russians along with tens of thousands of other refugees. They were lost in the fire bombing. Poor old Kitty, She was the sweetest most kind hearted of ladies.

@@steelhelmetstan7305 She took care of me after my Mother died back in 1980. They had been great friends. She landed in Ireland completely forlorn but fortunately met a Palatine Ulster man & married. He was the ACF N.I. Captain, he really looked out for me too. Ernst Weiss. Wonderful people they were.

Great collection of post war battledresses. I’ve never had a moth problem but it’s something I’m always scared of. I’ll usually put pieces of cedar wood with wool items and keep them in separate bags. Not sure if that’s enough, but haven’t had any moths yet (fingers crossed it stays this way haha)

Cheers yeh a few of my t shirts got attacked , I've hung rosemary branch up and put some moth repellent in the cupboard also, most of my tunics are in bags so I'm hoping that's that 👍

@@steelhelmetstan7305 Sorry to hear that. Hopefully, the steps you’ve taken is enough to stop them. Rosemary branches sound like a pretty good idea. I’m always hesitant to use things like artificial things like moth repellant or moth balls as I’ve hear they could be bad for your health so I’m trying to stick to natural products for now. Then again, the area I live in is quite dry so it’s not really ideal moth environment. Do you keep your tunics in regular garment bags?
@steelhelmetstan7305
@steelhelmetstan7305 Жыл бұрын
@@resistanceremembered yeh just garment bags....I only use repellents that are hung up as I believe they are poisonous to cats, so I keep them out of the way of them both 🙂👍

@@steelhelmetstan7305 If you buy a uniform, cap or anything made of wool, you should first put the item in the freezer for 7 days to eradicate any moth eggs or carpet beetles. Then put cedar wood blocks or anti-moth paper in the unifrom pieces. This is a Telly tip!
