Kim Nam-gil is a South Korean actor, producer, director, singer, and philanthropist. He is best known as an actor with tragic roles, because most of his characters in films or dramas would have tragic endings, it's either he's dying or died.
His breakthrough role was Bidam in the hit television period drama Queen Seondeok in 2009. He also starred in a few blockbuster movies such as The Shameless, Portrait of a Beauty, Pandora, Memoir of a Murderer, and the most recent one, Emergency Declaration.
Kim Nam-gil is also the founder and CEO of a non-profit organization Gilstory that focuses on preserving cultural heritage, promoting arts, and raising special purpose relief funds.
Kim Nam-gil is best known for his versatility as an actor. A few directors sought him just because he has a pair of the saddest eye according to them. It was indeed true. Kim Nam-gil can convey various emotions just with his eyes. His sad roles often displayed raw emotions, which included Bidam in the historical drama, Queen Seondeok, Song Ha-young in Through the Darkness, and his latest role as Van in the web series, Island.
