I've only recently discovered your channel Anna, it's wonderful, i so admire your approach, and your concern for the environment is commendable, the "gentle hand on the land" attitude is fantastic, if there were more people like you the world would be a much better place. thank you so much for sharing your journey, greetings and best wishes from York, England

The drone shots really show the transformation of the yard from when you first started working on it. Space has really opened up, and looks so much more tidy. Lining up one hole is a task itself, but that was impressive lining up 2 with that one rockwall board. As long as they are out of the wind, the chickens should be fine. Grew up raising them, and we have heavy winters. Just have to make sure their water doesn't freeze, and they have nice bedding to nest up in.

The chickens were so funny digging along with you! They really are good pets! I’m sure they get lots of worms, bugs and minerals from the newly-dug soil. When I dig my raised beds, the robins come right there next to me and look for worms! I know I have them in there; it means healthy soil! Your chickens will be healthy for getting fresh protein and the minerals they crave! 🐓

Hi Anna, greetings from South Carolina, U.S.A. I so enjoy the peacefulness of your videos and just how you may have not done something before but you just “ go for it”! My husband and I have done some home renovations but are D.I.Y.ers. We seemed to always misplace our tools and waste a whole lot of time until we find them where we left them but simply forgot where we went and layed them down. Haha. The hardest was a house we flipped with no air conditioning in over 90 (32.22 ) degree heat, ugh! Just awful, I went home drenched in sweat. Yuck! Anyways, thanks a lot for sharing your journey.

I like your attic fix! You did the sleeping loft last time; now the study. Then the attic space is done? Wonderful! And you’re doing a lot of outside work building the raised beds for next spring. I did that, too! Am able to grow quite a lot in the three 4’X 4’ raised beds. Surprising! Eggplants, tomatoes, peppers, herbs, cucumbers and early radishes and arugula. I tried Brussels sprouts and broccoli last year but white fly got them. 😐

My coop is not heated. If you raise cold-hardy chickens, they generally don’t need heat. If it gets. Too cold, a simple radiant light works well. Just remember to always be careful with electric devices in a coop. That includes water heaters. When in use, check them periodically. You don’t want a fire. I make sure that my light is clean from dust kicked up by active chickens.

The chickens will be ok without heat, as long as they have access to water. We sometimes get down to 10 below F, and mine do just fine. I think the really hot weather is harder on them I usually put a container of ice in their run so they can lay next to it and cool down.

Have you considered a red/orange incandescent lightbulb or two for the chickens in winter? We had one in our doghouse and it worked quite well for a little heat.

Yes I think I will sort out some heating for them 💚
@rachelbennett9150Күн бұрын
Don't put hot water in the coop. Moisture will increase the risk of frostbite. They will be quite well and happy with the insulated coop, don't worry. 😊

I have a heater in my water for my chickens. But it's outside the coop. No heat inside. The chickens will go into thermal shock if the power goes out when it's cold and they are used to a heater. Plus they grow thick warm feathers on purpose for winter. They really don't want a heater.

What about moisture getting in and out in the attic using only OSB, fermacell and paper?
@annasgmlindgren14 сағат бұрын
The paper is a breathing air barrier (from Isolina), and under that I have about 20 cm of wood fiber insulation. That allows some moisture to wander through the materials, which they are meant to be able to handle 😊
