This was so helpful. I also experimented placing my propagations on soil and in clear bags and 1/3 have rotted. Without the clear bags, I've also experienced some leaves drying off. Propagation success is not 100% guarantee even if you are giving proper care so I've learn to be less tough on myself. Thanks for this video- helps to know both fail and success stories.
@TheseSucculentBuddies3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely agree! In all methods of propagation, not all succeed. But definitely try placing them in a clear bag without soil and just spray a little water. So far, it's been the most successful method for me. The absence of soil seems to reduce the chances of rot. Thank you for your wonderful comment and wishing you a wonderful week ahead! 💚😊

I use small plastic food takeout containers with lids. I poke holes in the bottom for drainage, and open the lid for a few hours a day. I use a mix that is mostly either perlite or vermiculite, mixed with a little potting soil. Another way to propagate is to take a single mature leaf, with its stem, and gently insert the stem into the soil mix, so that the leaf is laying flat on the soil. The tip of the stem will often grow a little tuber. No matter how u propagate, if you live somewhere where the weather is warm during the growing season, they all seem to do best outside!

Awesome share on propagating SOHearts/ variegated. I only have the variegated one and it’s growing really well only that it’s not full. But I like the look of the pot.
@TheseSucculentBuddies3 жыл бұрын
It will fill up nicely for sure in time! My variegated hearts take a lot longer to grow compared to the green hearts. Hopefully they fill out soon. Patience, patience, patience! 😊

These Succulent Buddies I hung mine under the pergola where it gets constant rain and it seems to love it. One day I’ll show every plant that’s under it. You made such a good and detailed video on the 3 methods of propogating SOHearts.

Aww... thank you for the kind words. I truly appreciate it. 😊 So maybe I should water mine a bit more. Thanks for the tip. I tend to keep them dry till they look a bit dehydrated. Yes, please share the plants under your pergola! Would love to see them and your VSOH. 💕

These Succulent Buddies just make sure your plants have roots before putting them under the rain. That’s my no. 1 factor for my succulents before I hang them under the pergola.

thanks for the tips, 😊I’m waiting for my SOH to grow more leaves, then I will try to propagate them.

Hi was wondering where did you purchase the little pins
@TheseSucculentBuddies3 жыл бұрын
The pins are just those thin metal hooks that we buy during Christmas time to hang ornaments. I just cut them and then bent it. You can also use crafting wire from the craft store. 😊

Does it also work without any leafes left on the nods? I ripped them of and put the nods in soil just as i do with philodendrons. :)

Thank you for a great informative video. I don't have any strings of heart but I do have strings of pearls and turtles. I wonder if the same methods works for them? Happy new year to you too Chanel 😃😘
@TheseSucculentBuddies3 жыл бұрын
I've never tried methods 1 and 3 for propagating string of turtles or pearls. But I'm definitely trying method 3 on both when I have enough to play with. 😁 If you have a lot, maybe give it a try as well. I think my little experimental propagation method should work well on them if it worked for my string of hearts. Lmk if you do and how it turns out! 💚

I have a heat mat, have you tried that method? I just propagated my variegated lastnight and they are sitting on a plastic pot on a heat mat with a zip lock bag on top. Not sure if I should remove it off the mat and take off the zip lock.
@TheseSucculentBuddies3 жыл бұрын
No, I've never tried using a heat mat before. Mostly because the lights I have my propagations under I feel, provide enough heat. But I'd love to hear how that works out for you!
@xenakaifinancevideos86503 жыл бұрын
What potting mix did you use for these propagation methods?
@TheseSucculentBuddies3 жыл бұрын
I used a pre mixed soil mix called Sunshine Mix Aggregate Plus #4. It's pretty prefect for all succulents and SOH without having to add any extra aggregates. 😊

Can you please tell how to do with this plant as soon as getting it from online delivery...
@TheseSucculentBuddies3 жыл бұрын
When you take it out of the box, place it in a bright shaded area where it gets indirect sunlight. Let it rest for about 3 days if they are well hydrated. Day 3, you can spray the soil a bit with water just enough to moisten it if it is dry. Wait again till the soil is dry to water as it starts to acclimate. 😊

Thank you for this video❤ ..I wanna really try that ziplock method. But just wanted to know how frequently should I spray water??
@TheseSucculentBuddies3 жыл бұрын
Only spray when the bag looks dry and no longer has moisture inside. In my case, it's about once every 3 weeks. By week 4 or 5, most of the string of hearts will have lots of new roots and should be ready to plant in soil. 😊

@TheseSucculentBuddies3 жыл бұрын
It takes time for them get used to a new environment and recover from re-potting. Just make sure to leave them in bright light only and no direct sunlight yet. Give them a few days to acclimate. As long as you dont overwater, they will get better in time. 😊
@geslinam97033 жыл бұрын
Your regular variety is very dark. Mine has so much more silver. That variegated one in the big pot makes me nervous. These plants have shallow root systems, even more so when rooting. I think these plants do best in the smallest pots possible. I have a very old one in a 6” pot….and all my younger ones in 4.5 inch hanger pots that are less than 4” deep.
@TheseSucculentBuddies3 жыл бұрын
I believe there are actually a few different types of the regular SOH. I've seen the silver ones as well that you have and they are very beautiful. My very green ones seem to not have so much of the silver lines and turn orangey red when outdoors exposed to morning sun. Hopefully I can find the more silver ones soon. As for the variegated pink ones, they definitely grow slower and take longer to propagate but they did end up filling up the pot eventually and I've actually taken cuttings from that pot already. I'm very careful with watering and often forget actually. 😅 So they did pretty ok in the pot.
