It was over 70 degrees on a November day. I couldn't pass up the opportunity for a long ride before colder temps set in, so I went to Assateague Island on Maryland's Eastern Shore. #RoadTrip #ScooterAdventure #Assateague

There's something about taking a long trip on a 50cc scooter. I've owned just about every type of motorcycle, but I've had a lot of fun riding a 50cc scooter on a long trips, and just riding for no reason.

nuggets003 Sorry, I never got a notification that you posted anything. Most maps apps have options to avoid toll roads and highways, or freeway. You can plan a route using offline maps if you don’t have unlimited internet on your phone. Be patient, with some preparation, long trips on scooters can be done.

This looks and sounds similar to my old Honda sfx 50, it's not been riden for over 10 years. I ride a Vespa 125 not sure I would want to go as far as you did on a 50, even on a 125 you still have to plan a long journey to avoid faster roads, mine does 65 mph but I rather be at 50 mph much more enjoyable. Also I get well over 100 mpg out of my 2014 primavera. Thanks for sharing.

I bought a 2 stroke "Genuine Buddy 50" (49cc) in Florida, where the scooters are sold "derestricted" (no speed governors). I've only 114 miles on it, so it's hardly broken in, and I'm able to ride it at a sustained 45 mph, which is just fine for neighborhood rides. Dealer says that after he does the first scheduled maintenance (200 miles from now), it'll reach 50 mph. He bought the same scooter for his girlfriend, and claims that basically, this particular make and model "...is bulletproof..", it's made so well (in Taiwan, the largest producer of motor scooters). The "Genuine" company is headquartered in Chicago, so it's an American scooter made in Taiwan (which is NEVER to be confused with China). Your ride has prompted me to head out to the Everglades National Park tomorrow, so thanks for the encouragement. My wheels are only 10" in diameter, so I'll have to be extra careful not to go over alligator speed bumps! Thanks for the vid!

I've never had the privilege to work on a Genuine Buddy, but they get good reviews from anyone I can think of with one. Good luck on your trip, and please try not to be eaten. If you shoot any video, share it. Even if you just take pics, maybe post them on the forum at 49ccscoot.proboards.com . Chinese scooters can be better than their reputation. Don't let this video fool you into thinking that I've never had trouble with it. If you do a PDI (I have a video series about that) and take care of it and leave it stock, it's got a good chance of being reliable. If you want the best chance of reliability, then spend the money for a Japanese or European brand like Honda, Yamaha, Vespa, etc....
@bullrick36 жыл бұрын
unfortunately the laws in my state don't classify many Japanese scoots as "mopeds". For example because my ruckus produces over 2 hp, its considered a motorcycle which requires yearly registration and also insurance. I would probably have the local scooter shop do the PDI and assembly. They said it would be like 900 some bucks riding out the door with a warranty. How many miles do you have on yours? if you still have it
@49ccscoot6 жыл бұрын
That sucks. In reality they aren't that far apart in power stock. It just depends who lies the best on their info. lol I've got about 5,000 miles on mine. Don't ride it a lot, but still have it.

Great vlog Dude. I am just amazed on how well a 50cc engine can do so many miles in that heat. I love the digital display my 50cc scooter's display is shite, it's more KPH and MPH is an afterthought, it's difficult to tell the correct speed without converting it first. Does your Scooter ever have any problems after doing such a long journey ? All the best from the UK ; )
@49ccscoot5 жыл бұрын
I don't honestly do many long trips on the TaoTao. I've taken it to the beach about 150 miles 1-2 times, plus this one. It has ran fine each time. It's near stock, so it's less prone to failures then heavily modified stuff. I've done tons of rides to the beach on my modified two-stroke, but I've also broken parts quite a few times. Belts have been my most common failure on my 2T, but at least those can usually be changed on the side of the road if you have a belt and tools.
@baldvale54185 жыл бұрын
@@49ccscoot I'm still amazed at how well a 50cc bike can cope with those distance's in that heat too. Truly remarkable.
@49ccscoot5 жыл бұрын
@@baldvale5418 It's not that they can't do this stuff, it's just that there are better bikes if you want to do more kinda touring rides. Most people won't choose a 49cc for regular 100 mile trips, or even 50 mile trips. I wouldn't either if it were for more than leisure. That said, there are people that have circled the US on 50s. IIRC the Guinness record for longest trip on a 49cc is something like 9,000 miles. You may be interested in checking out "It's Not A Race : The Scooter Cannonball Run Movie". Then I saw the picture with the spare gallon. But how big is your tank? which would also answer did you end up using the spare gallon? Thank you for all of your videos by the way, they took my fear away from working on the 50cc Scooters!

88 miles and im sure his tank is at the very least 1.5 gallons. im guessing he didnt need to fill up. probably didnt even use his whole gallon
@49ccscoot9 жыл бұрын
+Mr Merhtin I've never measured the tank and numbers online are inconsistent. It appears to be just slightly over a gallon. I didn't expect to need the spare gallon of gas, but sometimes I like to carry it on long trips just in case. Then I don't have to worry if I pass a gas station that I won't make it to the next and I don't have to fill up earlier than I think I should need to.
@49ccscoot9 жыл бұрын
+Alex C. I used just under 2.5 gallons for the entire trip. I did stop for gas twice and I kept the can full in case of emergency. I could have used the can and the tank and not needed to fill up as long as the tank was full when leaving though.

Do you think a 49cc scooter would be capable of driving around 900 km/s distance in 1-2 full days with little breaks as possible? I mean,I want to know if there would be harm for the scooter,because some people are saying different things,just don't know what to believe.
@49ccscoot7 жыл бұрын
Sure. It would make for long days. Likelihood of success would increase with a non-Chinese scooter and a well maintained/tuned one. All of my scooters have done long stretches WOT. Temp generally levels out and it doesn't matter much how long I go at that point. I'm not saying it's the best thing for the scooter, but to me it's standard practice on a 50 because the limited power means they must operate at high throttle openings and RPM to maintain any reasonable speeds.

I have a performance variator on my 139qmb, and 63ccm kit, it goes about 40 mph at which speed the variator makes a funny whistle sound. Does yours too? I don't think of it as a problem... dont think it is loose on the variator bearing, but don't know

How do you drive your bike like that only going 30mph? Scooters or best when living in the city.
@49ccscoot6 жыл бұрын
Some people enjoy it. I actually prefer to ride modified scoots that will go faster, but it's hard to argue with the cost of a day on the road on a stock four-stroke and some people sort of enjoy a challenge. A lot of people share your opinion about scoots only being good for the city. I live in the country and it's 10 miles to pretty much anything other than a gas station. For me, under 20 miles it's not even worth riding. Most of my rides are 20-200 miles.
