As a long time Niner fan, I can say Levi’s has grown on me over the years. It definitely has much to be desired tho. The one thing I really do hate tho is that the private suites are on one side of the stadium while the the other side gets baked in the sun. I find it funny that 49ers management says a roof is not possible because of its proximity to San Jose Airport, and yet SoFi is right next to and under the flight paths for LAX (a far busier airport) and still has a roof. I think the worst part of Levi Stadium is trying to leave. If there's an emergency or evacuation it's basically designed to crunch the crowd. A giant ditch cuts the stadium off from the town around it with just 2 walking bridges to get over. I was staying at the Hilton, literally one or two blocks away, and it took an hour to leave the stadium because crowding was so bad at those bridges. Plus, they dump you off right in the parking lot so I saw lots of people in cars waiting for a couple hours because they couldn't leave with the crowds around them.
@hadlee189 Жыл бұрын
And just to think...This is one of the main reasons that Ownership gave San Francisco for leaving. When they lied & scapegoated SF/Candlestick for being a problematic place to have a stadium. The problem is the York Ownership is from Ohio. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell you that the Santa Clara/San Jose location was just a piss poor choice to relocate a historic NFL franchise.

I live in the Silicon Valley. I go to several 49er games each year at Levi's Stadium. It's not a "terrible" stadium. It's just baffling that the Silicon Valley couldn't build a more unique stadium. It's in Santa Clara. With the "microclimates" of the Bay Area, it is often 15-25 degrees WARMER in Santa Clara than in San Francisco. Plus, the sun hits the eastern side of the stands -- and it is relentless until the sun goes down. This makes afternoon games (even on a 60-degree day) feel like an oven. When I visit, I always (seriously, ALWAYS) feel that Levi's Stadium should have cost half as much as AT&T Stadium (home of the Cowboys). Yet, it cost considerably MORE. I just can't help but wonder where the money went. The food is, uh, okay. Nothing really stands out there. However, the food is crazy expensive (as opposed to Oracle Park where the San Francisco Giants play -- where you can even bring outside food into the stadium). Views are great in the stadium. However, Levi's Stadium feels like a good college stadium or low-end NFL stadium. I always wish that the 49ers could have had a new stadium built in San Francisco (either at Candlestick Point or at the Presidio). After all, both the Giants and the Warriors were able to get their places built in the city. Yet, the City politicians balked and Santa Clara decided to build. It's still disappointing -- even if it is closer to my home in Palo Alto. I still go to the games (and I'm not really a 49ers fan -- but a football fan in general). In fact, I take the train and light rail directly to the stadium. It's very easy -- and cheaper than parking. I just always feel that it's the stadium that we got "stuck" with instead of the one that would have better represented the team and area.

The Yorks can go back to Youngstown and manage a lacrosse team or whatever they do there. With the recent U-turn in success and franchise management over the past few years I can't help but assume the Don is back to pulling the strings behind the stage. Getting financially booted from our seating area was expected but the lack of shade in the early months is shameful. This year, our parking passes were pulled from us with no explanation or warning. Some of this video is spot on (the heat issues for example). Much of it is complete bullshit. The entire discussion of being "40 miles away from residential centers" reflects a complete disconnect with the realities of the Bay Area. Santa Clara County has 3-4 million people. Santa Clara is actually far closer to the population centers in the Bay Area than any San Francisco location. San Francisco's population of barely 800K never fully supported the 49ers. More importantly the entire discussion of public transportation is completely wrong. Getting into and out of Candlestick point has always been and will always be a disaster. As someone who has been a longtime 49er season ticket holder, my drive to and out of Levi's is now 25 minutes while it was 90+ minutes to Candlestick. The complaint that "there's nothing to do other than attend the game" was ALSO an issue in San Francisco -- and one now, in the post-COVID world, would be even worse. That said, there has been a development plan to create an NFL / 49er themed destination across the street from Levi's on the table for a while now. To circle back to the glaring sun / heat issue, the video doesn't even mention that the 49ers struck a deal that no pre-season home game starts before 5:30 / 7p at night. This largely mitigates the biggest heat issues for 49er fans. For all the complaints and issues that this video raise, there are no solutions or mitigations included at all suggesting that these issues have been ignored and not at least acknowledged.
@hadlee189 Жыл бұрын
In my very humble opinion, Ownership lied, & scapegoated SF/Candlestick. How...Because Levi's share some of the same issues that Candlestick had! The weather, access to the stadium is "not" right off of the freeway, the stadium is in the flight path of the SJ airport, parking is piss poor at Levi's. And FYI, go look at a map of California, what major city do U see at the center of the state, San Francisco! Santa Clara County is a very LARGE COUNTY. Made up of the smaller towns of Sunnyvale Mtn. View, Cupertino, Santa Clara, San Jose! San Francisco is a City and a County, SF didn't gobble up other smaller towns. This is the problem with outside Ownerships, they do get the dynamics of the Bay Area. And it is why I am a advocate of local, or somebody from California having Ownership of sports teams. San Jose, & SF are night & day, one is Suburban, the other is Urban. Even the pundits calling the 9er games are complaining! They see the issues with being located far away in Santa Clara/San Jose, yet showing pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge?! The Yorks need to change the name of the team, but they want their cake & to eat it too.

Have you ever been to the Giants game? Many people think it is the BEST baseball stadium. Meanwhile Levi's maybe the WORST NFL stadium (at least worst NEW one). How can one city have both the best and worst stadiums?
@johns204 Жыл бұрын
I went to my one and only NFL game (on holiday from Ireland) in Levi Stadium and thought it was the most unenjoyable stadium I have ever visited. It was impossible to get to/from, it was absolutely freezing on a Monday night (which was our own fault admittedly). Getting to the stadium was a pain (we had a car) but getting out of the $50 (which seemed insane to us) parking lot was 2 HOURS! Not really knowing the area, it seemed like a stadium in the middle of nowhere with nothing worthwhile even close to it. Myself and now wife wondered if we were missing something, but this video proves everything we thought at the time. In Europe stadiums tend to be built close to cities, with public transport a key focus. I said to wife at the time NFL owners must just take fan support for granted because a stadium built in such a poor location in Europe would have fans up in arms before a sod was turned. Enjoyed the game, but that stadium is terrible. SF fans and the city deserve better than they got here I felt, but I haven't been to other stadiums to compare either.

Detroit has 3 stadia (for the Detroit Lions, Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings) all within 4 blocks of each other and all within a 1/2 mile downtown to the south or mid-town to the north. You can walk back to a hotel, apartment/condo or to dozens of places before or after the game. It is a fantastic urban environment, but Detroit is not a tourist destination.
@letsgowalk Жыл бұрын
As a Bay Area local, I can tell you that the majority of Niners fans are NOT from SF proper. The move to Levi's probably made it more convenient for more fans than Candlestick was. Another example that has been made more evident recently is with the proposed move of the A's. Even though it says Oakland on their jersey, most of the fans don't live in Oakland. However, all of the stadium political dealings were done with Oakland itself, despite it affecting far more people than within the city limits. This is the problem with the Bay Area, in that there are so many jurisdictions, whereas somewhere like NYC is still NYC, be it Brooklyn, Bronx. etc.
@N_manMETA1111 ай бұрын
That's a great assessment. The problem with Bay Area teams in general, in sports is that leagues are so hell bent on having multiple teams in the region and expect it not to be a strain on both the teams and cities in question. You put a team in NYC, it can just be New York. You don't have to fuck around with "but is it Brooklyn or Queens, or Manhattan?" because the answer will be "who gives a fuck". The only league that did the Bay Area thing right, ironically, was probably the NHL. And that's with the hindsight of how the Seals flopped, they recognized that it was equal parts an ownership and marketing issue with the Seals, and didn't allow that to repeat with the Sharks. Now the Sharks, who play in neither SF nor Oakland, have a solid share of hardcore fans in the ENTIRE bay area, and the team isn't constantly dipsydoodling between cities (which are more like municipalities in one big metropolitan area, not dissimilar to New York). The Sharks not only did it, they did it first try in a sport with less money and less attention. Meaning the A's, 49ers, Giants and Warriors have zero excuse by comparison to be doing the same thing... and all be doing it worse in some form. The issue from the very beginning was treating Oakland and San Francisco as such separate entities- I wouldn't put the Dolpins in Fort Lauderdale, call them the Miami Dolphins, then expect the entire Metro area to give a shit. Just doesn't make sense- why is the Bay Area doing it?
@dohanddonuts571611 ай бұрын
@@N_manMETA11Well the A's at one time were looking at the South Bay for a stadium, but the Giants supposedly had territory rights to the area. This still makes no sense to me, eventhough the A's gave up the rights for them to build a stadium in Santa Clara in 1990s, which we all know didn't happen.. Also, distance between Santa Clara and San Francisco is longer than the distance between Citi Field and Yankee stadium. A stadium could have been built there years ago. So I put half the blame on the Giants. The other half are the owner. I do not believe that these cities should have to pay for stadiums. The last place they talked about building a stadium was at Howard Terminal but it doesn't have the great mass transit that the Oakland Coliseum has. The best place would have been were the parking lot and arena is. However, like the man with the worst $200 haircut, the A's owner was never going to stay. The Coliseum is a dump. The team is bad. Attendance is abysmal. I'm really suprised they didn't leave awhile ago. However, the owner will have to actually go out to field a team once they are in Las Vegas.

And that they simply copy it for santa clara. Why am i so certain ? Because the design had no sense at candlestick park were you have all the land you want. In santa clara they had to deal with the railway on the west side, the road on the north side, the power grid on the south side and their HQ on the east side. So the only way to deal with that was to have an unbalanced stadium with all the suites on one side. I went to Levi’s and to Allegiant. Boy our stadium seems already old and not up to par…

The stadium itself is great. I don't get all of the hate it gets. I love that it's not a SoFi, Allegiant, or "Jerry World" type stadium. It's football and should be outside in the elements on natural grass. I love the look of Levi's Stadium too. It's very different than all of the others. Yes the weather sucks for games in Sept. But guess what? It sucks for many other teams that time of year too.

I agree with you on the outdoor elements being a positive and I really dig the interior design of the stadium and how easy it is to navigate within it. The only thing I really dislike is the exterior of the stadium, it looks so plain. I wish they could cover up the white beams with some heavy duty plexi glass or just cover them up completely with a solid wall.
@jasonstorm-wm2vd Жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Open-air, seats close to the field, real grass, what's not to like? Much better than all of those tacky indoor stadia. It seems that most of the complaints have to do with ancillary issues like location and transit.

The most glaring problem with Levi's is that there is no There, There...Even the on air pundits are complaining about it?! The doggone stadium is located in the suburbs, a business park, & an amusement park. And nowhere near the city of San Francisco!

@@hadlee189i used to feel this way to but SF is a shithole now and isnt necessarily a "family friendly" enviroment when u compare it to the south bay. Hence why the raiders left and the A's as well.
@hadlee189 Жыл бұрын
@@tj5779 Apparently you have bought into the hype about SF. Most of the issues are located in the Tenderloin as far as homelessness & drugs. The crime basically comes in from the East Bay, aka Oakland. But I have to tell you that the South Bay isn't no pray book either, they have their crime also.

But when you build something new you would expect a upgrade right. This case they went backwards in my opinion. One thing I miss about Candlestick is partying after a win. Now you just party in parking lots lol

I am a season ticket member and I sit on the sunny side of the stadium. The pre-season and early season games are hot as hell!!! Maybe they should be night games early in the season to help with that. Also I drive from Los Angeles to attend the games the lack of anything to do around the stadium after the game is a drag. We try to kill time to let traffic die out before getting back on the highway but there is nothing around.

York and the architects visited every stadium in the NFL to glean the best ideas. Yet they failed to put a roof on from the blazing sun. The architects said they don’t normally do an environmental study! Talk about stupidity!

They need a new stadium back in San Francisco not in Santa Clara, if you have to move it to San Jose. But it needs to be back in a city, It would be so beneficial

If they were going to move they should've made it in Fairfield Ca. Plenty of land cheap and close the the Suisun, Napa and Sonoma Wine Country.

It's The San Francisco Bay Area, so the whole argument that they should no longer be called The San Francisco 49ers is just ignorant.

The Rams kept their home name as "Los Angeles," even when they played in Anaheim (which is just as far away). Also, the Jets and Giants are still branded as "New York," even though they now play in New Jersey.

@@robertlindey2538 Hmmm....Seriously? Were those teams located 2 Counties away, & 50 miles away from the namesake city the team is named after??? Were any of those teams located 3 blocks from city limits of the 3rd largest county in California...San Jose? That be like the SJ Sharks moving to the Cow Place on the boarder of SF, & STILL calling themselves the San Jose Sharks. I'm tired of my city's name being Pimped Out for Santa Clara/San Jose. All because SF is more famous that San Jose. Change the name to San Jose, for gawds sakes!
@robertlindey2538 Жыл бұрын
@@hadlee189 Actually, the Sharks DID play their first two seasons in the Cow Palace while their SJ arena was being constructed. I realize that their fans knew it was temporary. Were most people attending those games from the South Bay and willing to drive the extra distance for those two seasons? There were two minor league hockey teams that played in the Cow Palace, but neither team lasted very long. The MLB Angels rebranded from Anaheim to LA, because many So Cal baseball followers may have seen them as only representing Orange County. The name change may have been an attempt to compete with Dodger and Padre fans throughout the rest of So Cal. Did this move accomplish that objective? I don't know. A snarky compromise might be "the San Francisco 49ers of Santa Clara." This is in response to "the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim."

@@robertlindey2538 U are correct, but I believe they all knew the SJ Sharks were not a permanent thing at the time. But the 49ers in San Jose is a permanent thing. You got one point wrong....40 miles from SF will put you smack dab at Stanford University, in Palo Alto. As a native San Franciscan, the most glaring part of Levi's stadium is the fact is that it sits right next to the 3 largest City in California, San Jose?! So, you are right, here is a disconnect with ownership from Ohio, when you put a stadium 3 blocks away from the city limits of San Jose, & STILL call your team the San Francisco 49ers! From my point of view, this ain't even right, in fact it's a travesty.

They are still in the Bay Area. People drive hundreds of miles for a slot machine, 2 hrs for a burger, etc. I live in the EastBay. About 45 minute drive with no to light traffic. Only complaint really about the Stadium is that it would be nice if it retained the crowd noise better. Sound escapes easily from inside out, because of the open ends on the luxury suite side. It has already been nearly 10 years since the days of Candlestick.............time really flies.
