I believe that Bradford Cox is a sinless, pure-hearted creature who came down to earth just to write and create this songs that make you feel absolutely full and happy but also guilty and terribly abandoned by everyone and at the and you just end up crying on your bed the evening before/after a long, boring day

I discovered deer hunter when they opened up for the yeah yeah yeahs in Nashville forever ago. I was not only entranced by the height and oddity of the lead lead singer, but the music swept me away. I then went to another show where thet opened up for ten years. I saw him before the show and told him I was there for him and come the time they were on the stage, the lead singer held me and sang to me. It was pure magic and to this day it's one of my fondest memories

Been 6/7 years at 19-20 years old that I discovered Deerhunter and on and off Agoraphobia as my favorite and forgot this masterpiece of a track. Fast forward December 2019 into the beginning of 2020 and had my brush with the devil spiraling into fentanyl addiction living day to day. Turning 26 in 2 weeks and finally hitting 3 months sober soon and thought I’d be dead by now. This song hit me harder than when I first heard it. Keep pushing forward in sobriety, we are the winners of our own game.

this whole album is magical. besides just being plain beautiful it has some hard to describe undertone to it, something that makes it exotic, even mesmerizing. and this song is extremely catchy :) but anyway, i just thought i'd recommend the artist seaside to fans of deerhunter - check out 'sweetest love' or 'away' by them, their sound has a kind of picturesque and lush quality to it, kind of like this album. very immersive.

People are over here complaining about how this is whiny or crap FYI: this song sends a powerful msg which speaks about "exploitation, abuse, helplessness, isolation and loneliness." Bradford is amazingly talented to put himself in another persons shoes and sing about it that's creativity at it' best! This song is about a boy named Dima Dimitry Marakov who had a dream like every child but in pursuing that dream he ufortunately came across horrible people. READ ABOUT IT BEFORE YOU JUDGE!!! (:

I copied this from a lyrics meaning website because the story really touched me. I still recommend to everything to purchase the record because he has the story on it. But it's a story that really has stuck with me throughout the years and I haven't seen anyone post it in the comment section so here it is. Thank you for Sharing this song about empathy Deerhunter I will forever have it in my heart. It tells the story of a young Russian man named Dima who left his home at the age of 14. He moved to the city in hopes of becoming a fashion designer. He had no home and eventually moved into the home of an older man, who took him as his lover. Soon Dima left him and moved into the home of a wealthy older man who provided financial backing for a conglomerate of gay pornographic websites. Dima's documents were changed so that Dima's age was 18, although at this point he was maybe around 16. He soon began starring in his lover's films as well as working as a nude model. Dima supplemented his income by working as an escort. Soon, a member of the Russian mafia had developed something of a fixation on Dima. One day, Dima left his lover and cut off communication with all his friends, and moved in with the Russian crime leader. Another escort, a friend of Dima, spotted Dima being "forcibly sodomized" by a group of 10-15 men (including the crime leader) in a private sex club. That was the last spotting of Dima. The escort tried to investigate. He persuaded a prominent gay Russian journalist to write a story, but the journalist was threatened by the organized crime, and stopped. One day, another crime leader, who was being tried on an unrelated murder charge, confessed that he had seen a young man matching Dima's description be pushed out of a helicopter over a remote forest in Northern Russia. Dima's ex-lover, before dying in 2007, confessed that he had sold Dima as a sex slave in 2005 and believed Dima to have committed suicide in 2006.

On its own, it's a dreamy-yet-tragic melody with lullabye-like vocals. When accompanied by the short story found in the liner notes for the track, the song becomes a heart-wrenching anthem. I came across this group and album by chance; a random pick at the library. It was like hitting the lottery. Completely beautiful and prime for the "Repeat All" setting.

Great song. Cool video. Fantastic band. How these boys manage to stay under the radar, yet get the music out, amongst drastic changes in the recording industry is mind-blowing. Deerhunter has earned huge gobs of respect for doing this, in a relatively short period of time. In summary... easily the best band I've heard in 10 years.

halcyon with songs like helicopter and revival can make you pretty happy, but songs on microcastle like agorphobia and nothing ever happened can make you pretty sad, great band

What have you done? How am I gonna find another song like this? How am I ever going to feel alive again without you?

When people say 2010s music was bad or the 2010s was a bad decade overall, I always say no because 2010-2014 was a great time in life for me, a time that I wouldn't mind living again. Compared to how everything has turn out, it was a pretty chill era and the world hadn't gone mad. I remember when I started getting into Deerhunter, Atlas Sound, and other bands of the time and it completely changed my take and outlook on music and life. The internet still felt free and people shared music and stuff, even artists would give out tracks for free, and it was a fresh era of artists who were putting out eps and mixtapes for free sometimes. I miss the blog era, I miss going to shows and events and people still feeling present and like they weren't just there for a social media photo op. Halcyon Digest isn't just one of my favorite albums of 2010, not just of the 2010s decade, but ended up being one of my favorite albums ever, no skips on any track. It still fills me with that hope and good feeling I had around the time I first listened to it.
