This was mostly due to the production work of Robin Guthrie who produced them to the album Spooky (1991). Their sound changed dramatically on the later records which in my opinion had somewhat lost the magic
@kreep1827 жыл бұрын

Agreed. And until recently, thanks to the internet, I never knew the words. Not that it matter to me at all. In early 1991 I walked into a record store (kids, ask your parents) and the in-store audio was playing this beautiful, ethereal, yet driving track...I'd never heard anything like it. I asked the store clerk what he was playing and he said it was a song called "Sweetness and Light" by a band called Lush. I remember thinking how apt a band name that was, as it encapsulated their sound perfectly. I left that store with a cassette of their album Gala and I've been a shoegaze and dream pop fan ever since.

Wow...the best bill of any gig in history. Lush played first (loved them) and then a flash hurricane blew in and trashed the whole stage. Concert cancelled! I paid a scalper $400 for two great seats and all I saw was Lush! Scalpers don't give refunds. Four hundred bucks to see a twenty minute set by Lush. @@ghop09er I have my concert-going pretty well documented, so I can confidently state that in addition to the April 1992 Slim's show, I saw them twice at the Fillmore in 1996 and then at the Warfield on the 2016 reunion tour. I also saw the Miki Berenyi Trio at the Great American Music Hall this June, where I got Miki to sign her book for me! ❤ I recently looked through Lush's gig history to try to figure out which San Francisco shows I missed back in the day and why. Some of the gaps were easy to explain (I missed them at Slim's in July 1992 because I was on vacation in Germany, at the Fillmore in August 1994 because I was at a conference in Washington, DC), but others were inexplicable. Why didn't I see them at Bottom of the Hill in June 1994? Sure, I was deep in debt and low on cash in those days, but a show like that would only have cost around $15, and I nevertheless managed to see Nina Hagen, Milla (Jovovich), Shonen Knife, Tori Amos, Stereolab, and X later that summer. Maybe I just didn't find out about it in time. ???

Right? Physical video tape was required in editing, even if they had the latest software.

this song saved my sanity, kept my hope intact every morning in a state of total desperation I'd hit "shuffle" on my pod and it always came first; it was weird but then i realized it was the voice of the spark of life saying "don't give up"

It was early 1989 when me and my brother walked into a music pub near where I live in London, early in the week there would probably be no one playing at all. It was only a large room and about 20 people in. There on the small stage were this band in full flow. We were totally blown away, we simply could not believe what we were seeing and hearing. They were churning out this gorgeous music like there was no tomorrow. From that moment I followed Lush to what was a very high place in the indie music scene. They were always on the front cover of melody maker and become very famous. But for me they will always be that band we walked in on and we're taken to another place for an hour or so.

I saw them at Lollapalooza in 1990s. Micki walked out on stage. Cracked open a 40oz and they went right into Superblast. It was one of the best shows I ever saw my whole life.
