They opened up at Lollapalooza 1992, and I felt really bad for them at the end of their set. The crowd was still funneling in and not showing a whole lot of enthusiasm, and Miki said after their last song, "Thanks Dallas, it's been very time-consuming!"

Oh gawd I have it too. Those damn little in the ear headphones are awful. The old ones from the 70's that were padded and went Around your ears instead of Inside them- I wish I would've stuck with them, the sound is better as well as being safer. I *ucking hate tinnitus. My ears ring loudly 24 hrs a day. I miss quiet... The little sounds you hear when it's quiet like birds... your own heartbeat... All the little sounds... I miss quiet. I miss the 90's too

This was mostly due to the production work of Robin Guthrie who produced them to the album Spooky (1991). Their sound changed dramatically on the later records which in my opinion had somewhat lost the magic
@kreep182
@kreep182 7 жыл бұрын
Tulipe Noire true. i think they had to intentionally bring down that 'magic' to a certain level so as to appeal to the mainsream audience. I guess they werent really that popular....which is a fucking shame if you ask me.

Agreed. And until recently, thanks to the internet, I never knew the words. Not that it matter to me at all. The "heavenly" and "ethereal" sound was so awesome, I didn't even care what she was singing. The lyrics dance lightly atop the wall of sound and they almost might have been in another language.

In early 1991 I walked into a record store (kids, ask your parents) and the in-store audio was playing this beautiful, ethereal, yet driving track...I'd never heard anything like it. I asked the store clerk what he was playing and he said it was a song called "Sweetness and Light" by a band called Lush. I remember thinking how apt a band name that was, as it encapsulated their sound perfectly. I left that store with a cassette of their album Gala and I've been a shoegaze and dream pop fan ever since.

Vivid memories of Lollapalooza 1992, walking up to the crest of the bowl at Molson Park in Barrie and seeing this bright red hair guiding a giant mass of thousands, swelling and moshing like it was a singular entity... my life was forever changed. I was at the infamous 1992 Lollapalooza Jones Beach, New York. You know the lineup: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ministry, Ice Cube, Soundgarden, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Pearl Jam, Lush. Wow...the best bill of any gig in history. Lush played first (loved them) and then a flash hurricane blew in and trashed the whole stage. Concert cancelled! I paid a scalper $400 for two great seats and all I saw was Lush! Scalpers don't give refunds. Four hundred bucks to see a twenty minute set by Lush. I was called a Lollapa-loser by everyone that week.

See my life (I've been so tired) See my self (I've been uptight) See my life (I've been so tired) See my sight (I could disappear) See with you memories fading fast And with you it's never going to last You are the sweetness in my eyes You are an apple in disguise See with you I never seemed to look the other way Only to stay, only to breathe Only to see That space and light is what I really need I never wanted to tell lies You are the sweetness in my eyes You are the juice I need for life You are the sweetness in my eyes

You're so lucky! I first discovered Lush RIGHT AFTER they had already left the Bay Area on that tour. (I think I read a review in the Daily Cal or something.) I didn't get to see them until they played at Slim's on the Spooky tour the following year.

after college in florida a headhunter offered me my dream job in the bay area so i relocate from the east coast to the west...after being denied a day off i compromised & offered to work a half day so i could still make the show...that was denied as well so i walked! i quit a WELL PAYING JOB in silicon valley during the infancy of the computer revolution all just to see LUSH perform outdoors in Union Square for free...the early 90's in NorCal were epic! #ZeroRegrets

@@ghop09er I have my concert-going pretty well documented, so I can confidently state that in addition to the April 1992 Slim's show, I saw them twice at the Fillmore in 1996 and then at the Warfield on the 2016 reunion tour. I also saw the Miki Berenyi Trio at the Great American Music Hall this June, where I got Miki to sign her book for me! ❤ I recently looked through Lush's gig history to try to figure out which San Francisco shows I missed back in the day and why. Some of the gaps were easy to explain (I missed them at Slim's in July 1992 because I was on vacation in Germany, at the Fillmore in August 1994 because I was at a conference in Washington, DC), but others were inexplicable. Why didn't I see them at Bottom of the Hill in June 1994? Sure, I was deep in debt and low on cash in those days, but a show like that would only have cost around $15, and I nevertheless managed to see Nina Hagen, Milla (Jovovich), Shonen Knife, Tori Amos, Stereolab, and X later that summer. Maybe I just didn't find out about it in time. ???

Whoever made this video for Lush did a great job. So many layers of images and unique colors stacked on top of one other. This took many hours to put together, especially since it was done nearly 30 years ago. Brilliant work musta cost a pretty penny.

It was early 1989 when me and my brother walked into a music pub near where I live in London, early in the week there would probably be no one playing at all. It was only a large room and about 20 people in. There on the small stage were this band in full flow. We were totally blown away, we simply could not believe what we were seeing and hearing. They were churning out this gorgeous music like there was no tomorrow. From that moment I followed Lush to what was a very high place in the indie music scene. They were always on the front cover of melody maker and become very famous. But for me they will always be that band we walked in on and we're taken to another place for an hour or so.
