G'day Matt, Just searching through your videos looking for one about 4EFE vs 4EFTE cranks. Is it safe to build my 4EFE and use my 4EFE crank? Will be aiming pretty high and building the motor to suit a bigger turbo and more boost after I get bored of my CT9 Hybrid. As far as I know everything should fit right and work the same apart from the flywheel bolt pattern. Please let me know if I'm making a big mistake using a 4EFE Crank over a 4EFTE crank before I waste my money haha, cheers mate.
@MattBerrymotorsport2 жыл бұрын
I honestly thing both cranks are the same. I have a 4efte and 4efe crank and both of them are forged with the same numbers. I wrote a comment on another video about this and a guy said in his country the 4efe cranks are cast iron? Either way I've never broken one before, how much power are you planning to make?
@MrPwnagejames2 жыл бұрын
@@MattBerrymotorsport Planning to go balls to the wall with my CT9 Hybrid on e85 and see how much I can squeeze out of it. Current setup is NA+T with a piggyback on full stock internals and some fuel parts. Plan to upgrade the turbo later down the line when I get bored of the ct9 on its max boost so want the motor to be built already and ready for that to just slap a bigger turbo setup on retune and send it.
@MattBerrymotorsport2 жыл бұрын
@@MrPwnagejames sounds awesome mate but seriously, do yourself a favour of throw the ct9 in the bin if you go to a forged engine. You will be wasting your time trying to make power on a tiny turbo not to mention hurt the engine. You may not agree on this but let's not re invent the wheel here.... Show me one fast Honda that uses a small turbo? You won't find one. Honda's have been in development for far longer than any Toyota engine... I'm just trying to follow in their steps to try and cut some corners to save yourself some time and heartache...
@MrPwnagejames2 жыл бұрын
@@MattBerrymotorsport Yeah for sure, Honda's use the big boy turbos and can make shitloads of power. The CT9 Hybrid on my car now with the stock internals is all eBay parts so not long ago I bought a new CT9 setup with the speedvison turbo and wepr manifold and dump to throw on there. I think I will throw that on there after I forge the motor and make whatever power I can safely for the two reasons that I already have this turbo stuff laying around and that Im also not made of money so buying a new bigger setup will take me some time to gather up the parts. Later down the line I want to try the g25-550 turbo so will buy the wepr manifold and dump kit to suit that and then really send it and try make all the power I can on a "safe" tune.

Hey matt. As usual great video with tonnes of relevant information. Keep up the great work 👍 👏 💪 👌 🙌 🙏 Quick question for you, what is your honest opinion about maxspeedingrods/scatt rods? And I've seen real cheap alibaba rods. My buddy assumes these all come from the same factory and wether you buy the name brand or not it makes no difference. What do you think about this?
@MattBerrymotorsport2 жыл бұрын
Yeah i reckon the alibaba rods are the max speeding/scat rods. Only difference I've found is the scat rods have a larger diameter rodbolt. The more important question here is are they even genuine arp bolts? 🤷 Either way good for over 400 hp
@MattBerrymotorsport2 жыл бұрын
The spool rods were a direct fit with no mods required. All the alibaba rods require block notching. The spool rods were also $200 more which is about the cost of a set of genuine arp bolts. Cant buy spool anymore though

Are valve springs really needed? Im building a 5efte and trying to find out why people buy 4efte head and put it on 5e block Isn't it ok to use 5e head?
@MattBerrymotorsport Жыл бұрын
Valve springs make an enormous difference, even in low boost applications. 100% needed! Second generation 5e head do not have distributor, they have cam and crank angle sensors. They also have coil packs and the rocker cover and cams are a little different. 4efte head are much more available and lots of parts available too

Most starlet rods and pistons are well over engineered for how much power they are actually gonna make lol any will do. Athena are fine, as long as your tune is good. A bad tune can still destroy any engine or head gasket.

I bouhght c161 gearbox from G6 for swap, did you hear about LSD for this gearbox? 2.can you tune stock ECU? (5efe) i want to replace intake and exhaust so i wonder if i can do something with fuel ratio etc. 3. I watched your film about 5efhe and you said that you can put 4e pistons to 5e Rods and increase compression, is 4e gasket required? 4. Last one for now, what's the drifferent with ported/not ported head on naturaly aspirated 5e ? Im really enjoying your video's, u re making good job, i m waiting for answers :)
@MattBerrymotorsport2 жыл бұрын
Hey I've got a c160 gearbox, comes from the 4a family of engine... I swapped the bell housing to suit 4efe and used an LSD out of a 4a gearbox... I'm assuming the 161 would be the same process but I've never seen one in person... Also with the extra comp, it's almost not worth the hassle ... It does give you a couple extra HP but it's a lot of mucking around. I've also never seen a stock ecu tuned, I've always gone aftermarket. With your last question I ported a stock cylinder head for my na build and I get a lot of comments saying how low the HP numbers are ... I actually think I've lost hp by porting the head, I recommend just buying a set of good na cams and springs and leave the head un ported but a lift cleanup / polish is fine.
